Chapter 2

"Sebastian, what do you know about Lord Niel Cromwell?" Ciel asked Sebastian as he poured the young boy's tea into the cup. Sebastian looked slightly confused as Ciel tapped his fingers together with his all-knowing grin. They were on their way to the Lord Hargreaves estate where they had invited themselves over while staying in town for one of the biggest parties of the season, the road was occasionally bumpy with Ciel smashing his head behind him.

"Lord Cromwell was disowned by his family for marrying a Japanese woman, he has a daughter and once ago, the Cromwell and Hargreaves family was once the same tree but was separated after an incidence with a butler," Sebastian recalled to Ciel who watched observantly, "Enlighten me sir on what you may know."

Ciel threw the pictures in his hands on the seat, it showed the body of a dead woman, and child, then of a man in a cape, and a man wearing a top hat, watching down on a man with poisonous green from a window, high above the complex. The picture sent chills down his spine as the familiar feeling of doom was playing in his mind.

"Lord Niel Cromwell's second wife Abigail was poisoned by her son, Emile," Ciel began, "There Lord Cain Hargreaves, a French medium Crehador, the man who had the same appearance as Alexis Hargreaves."

"Why is a dead man, so important to your investigation?" Sebastian asked Ciel who glared back unconvinced. "I believe the Lord jumped to his death all those years ago.

"Alexis Hargreaves was known to be suspicious," a memory flashed in his mind. One of the Earl in the living room with his father. His father was looking sternly at the Earl as the Earl laughed at him and left. Ciel remembered those were one of the only times his father looked uneasy in front of him. That was a time he would rather forget. "We are going to one of the mansions in London his son has let us accommodate for the evening while the Lord Chamberlain's party will be on tonight."

"Won't the Lord Druittt be there?" Sebastian smiled as Ciel shuddered in silent horror. "We must be on our best behaviour remember my lord."

"I guess so," Ciel looked out of the window to the cobble stones streets, children laughing and smiling as their parents chased them down, people selling goods as others sat by the side of the street.

"Perhaps black magic may of brought him back to life," Sebastin chuckled as Ciel scoffed at the idea.

"Even you know, that you can't bring the dead back to life," Ciel said sternly, "That is something that only happens in children's fairy tales. Now, what can you tell me about the Lord himself?"

Sebastian grinned at Ciel and said, "Now that is something that is possible."

Meanwhile at the Hargreaves mansion

"Ugh, Cain," Mary Weather said displeased as she sat on a chair beside the long dining table. Vast painting lay either said of the walls as Mary Weather sat bored at the table, "Why do we have to invite Lord Phantomhive? Why can't we do something else?" She was dressed in a light pink frilly dressed that had a bow tie around her neck.

Mary Weather looked at Cain who sat near her, eating his food while Riff poured them some tea. "The Phantomhive family in the past has helped us, when the butler asked, Riff agreed," Cain slightly glared at Riff who laughed slightly to get rid of the tension that was lurking in the corners of the room, "Besides, when is the Earl coming?"

"He should be arriving shortly," Riff replied as Mary Weather finished her meal and put her cutlery together.

"I am finished," Mary Weather chimed as Cain nodded. Mary grinned a thousand watts as she waited expectantly for her brother to let her go.

"You can leave the table," Mary Weather smiled as she bolted to her room, in order to get ready as Cain sighed loudly.

"The Queen's guard dog is about to arrive," Cain said unhappily as Riff sighed loudly. "You have heard the rumours that they are being possessed by a demon," Cain said as he started to play with his food. "Such an unfortunate event."

"Being possessed by a demon?" Riff raised his eye brow as Cain looked at him somberely.

"Of course, the rumour three years ago that they were being possessed by a demon, eventually led them to someone burning down the mansion along the former head of Phantomhive and his wife. No one knew where the son went until he popped up with a mysterious butler dressed in black, now he is the head of Phantomhive" Cain told him as Riff shook his head.

"House burned down by a fire…" the words slurred on Riff's tongue as Cain took no notice.

"I believe the Queen wants to know more about Delilah."

"The more she knows…. The more…."

"The more Delilah can rain terror down on London," Cain stood up and looked directly at a painting that lay opposite, "I will not let my father win."

A loud crashing sound rang throughout the doorways, in the form of the knocking. Cain jumped slightly as Riff shivered as a cold chill went down their spine.

"The dog is here," Cain said as he quickly got up and walked out of the dining room and looked out of the gallery balcony below to the young boy who a maid was collecting his coat.

"Here, let me take it miss," the butler said the young maid who looked awed by him, "I assure you, I can take things from here."

"We are in the devil's nest," Cain heard the young boy say as the young boy looked around.

"Lord Phantomhive," Cain said loudly as he rested his elbow against the railing, "It's a pleasure meeting you, " the young boy looked startled for a moment then regained his composure.

"The pleasure is mine, Lord Hargreaves,"Ciel bowed to Cain as an uneasy silence took over.

The battle had begun….
