Chapter 4
"This bloke must be hella rich," Balroy mumbled to Finny, while taking a deep drag of his cigarette. He clutched it between his fingers, staring at the massive garden outside the front of the Estate. Gardeners flocked around various trees, pruning them to perfection while maids run about the court yards, tending to everything, "Do you think he is richer than the young master?"
"Baldroy," Finny's tone warned him, Baldroy shrugged, cocking his head to the side, "You know Sebastian doesn't like it when we question other Earls' places."
"Who has enough money to afford all these sheilas?" Baldroy chuckled, taking another long drag, "That's a position I would like to be in. Where's Mei Rin by the way? Or Tanaka?"
Finny sighed, "Haven't seen them since we have come. The gardeners here have told me not to touch the gardens."
"Probably Sebastian," Baldroy grumbled, throwing his cigarette on to the ground and stomping on it viciously, "I was kicked out of the kitchen for using my trusty flamethrower. I swear, none of these people have imaginations."
"Imagination?" a sharp voice snapped them out of their thoughts, "Who are you people?"
Baldroy and Finny turned around quickly to find a finely dressed lady standing behind them. Both of her fists were on her hips, her look feral. They couldn't help but draw a resemblance to Lady Elizabeth. The girl raised an eyebrow at both of them.
"Well hello there, little lady," Baldroy bowed, taking off his hat, "Didn't see you there. My name is Baldroy, I am a chef, and this is Finny, a gardener."
Finny beamed at her, bowing at her quickly, "Hello there Miss."
The girl seemed astounded at the pair, "You two don't seem like normal servants."
Finny couldn't help but laugh, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly while Baldroy slowly fumed from the inside out. Mary cocked her head at the side, "Did Riff hire you two?"
"You mean that young butler?" Baldroy asked her. That young head butler, gave Baldroy the creeps. Too much like Sebastian… Except, neither of them seemed human. Too loyal, too vigilant for their Masters. Baldroy loved the young Master, but he didn't go to sleep thinking about the kid
Mary nodded.
"We work for Lord Phantomhive," Finny spoke up.
The girl took off, leaving Baldroy and Finny alone once more.
"This place gives me creeps," Baldroy admitted to Finny, "There's something about it, I just don't like."
Sebasian couldn't help but feel amused as a splendid young lady barged past him to start yelling at Lord Hargreaves. They were in the middle of another awkward afternoon, when the young lady opened the doors in exasperation. She took one look at Ciel, and stormed up to the young Lord.
Riff stood back and sighed.
"I learn off their servants that there were people!" the girl yelled at Cain, crossing her arms and baring her teeth.
"Mary," Cain pleaded but it fell on deaf ears.
The girl named Mary, walked up to Ciel and curtsied, keeping her head low, "Hello, Lord Phantomhive. I'm sorry my idiot brother," she almost spat that word, "Refrained from my knowledge that you were here. My name is Mary."
Ciel actually laughed.
"Family members can be tedious," Ciel stood up and took her hand, kissing it softly, "I'm sorry we had to meet like this. Honestly," Ciel looked back at Cain, and grinned evilly, Sebastian felt proud for his Master, "I find your brother most awfully boring, too adult for my tastes, would you accompany me on a walk?"
Mary took his arm, and they were off.
"What just happened?" Cain asked amazed.
"Children flock like birds Earl Hargreaves," Sebastian replied, gathering the cups, "You would be wise to remember it as so."
"Riff," The Earl barked to his loyal dog, "I am going to retire to my study, show Sebastian around the gardens."
And with that, the Earl was off….
"Two minutes!" Sebastian snapped at Baldroy and Finny, "Two minutes and you set a tree on fire?"
There were in one of the back court yards, overlooking the country side. The sun was starting to set over the horizon, as brilliant colors had started to flavour the sky various shades of purple and blue. Finny and Baldroy were next to a tree blackened with ash, while Riff stared gobsmacked at the pair.
"Where is Tanaka?"
They pointed to a small old man, sitting cross legged in the corner, drinking tea. Sebastian sighed.
"Go to your rooms. Baldroy, if you use your flamethrower one more time…"
"Off with my head or something?" Baldroy finished his sentence, staring at his nails unimpressed, "I get it."
Strolling off, Sebastian's mind wandered to the various ways he could murder Baldroy. Riff followed in an uneasy step.
"You seem to have your hands full," Riff started.
"Serving the Phantomhive family has it's perks," Sebastian mumbled, "My guess is, you would be in the same boat."
"Never had a cook use a flame thrower to cook," Riff commented, while Sebastian observed the gardens. It was too pristine for his liking, something was off about the house… There were too many walls, and not enough rooms.
"The servants…" Sebastian trailed off, "Are useful at times."
"How so?" Riff asked, but Sebastian merely smiled and sauntered off, leaving Riff behind in confusion.
"What a strange man."
"Look whose talking," Sebastian chuckled.
Ciel couldn't figure out any place they would keep their stashes of poisons. The place would be too well kept for any usual scavenger to find it. Ciel cursed his luck. Maybe he could've kept with the Lord, but… the girl was a lot more interesting.
She seemed lively. Different aura to Elizabeth. Sharper than any girl he had met before. Ciel guessed she wasn't born into this house like her brother. He was the prime example of being spoilt. She, just had the attitude of a commoner… It made Ciel laugh.
Ciel stopped for a moment, and peered back at her, "You don't act like your brother?"
"Excuse me?"
"I've met many Lords and Ladys, but you don't act like anyone I have ever met before."
Mary grabbed his hand and threw him to the ground, startling him amazingly, "Well excuse me, Mr Snobby."
"Wait I-"
She was already off.
"Really young Master," Sebastian laughed at him, crouching down beside him. Ciel immediately got up, and brushed himself off, "You had to insult a Lady of her standing."
"She doesn't act like one," Ciel grumbled, crossing his arms, "Now what do you know?"
"That manservant, There's something about that's-"
"Not human? Do you think he is a Reaper? Another demon?"
"No…" Sebastian trailed off, "But, there's something not earthly about him. There's this air to him, of one of the undead."
"The undead? Could it be Delilah? Keep looking Sebastian."
Sebastian bowed, "Of course young Master."
