Superboy POV

The night was going about as smoothly as anyone could have hoped it would be without being blindingly optimistic. The recipe called for disaster as far as I knew anyway, since none of us really knew what we were doing and were surrounded with the adults usually making sure that nothing went extremely wrong, but couldn't now fulfill that role. I sighed, resting my head on my hand and lowering my gaze to the floor just in front of me. Maybe it was better that way. They don't like me much.

I look at M'gann, trying to take my mind off it, and I couldn't help but smile at her. She looked so comfortable and in her element, despite not having much experience either. J'onn was nestled against her, looking about as comfortable as I had ever seen him. Her hand lightly and absentmindedly rubbed his head, and I think she was talking to him through a mental link, although I'm not positive. It was unbelievably tender. She'll make a great mother today if she choses to be one.

I turn my attention to Zatanna next. She was playing some kind of game with Zatara, which left the other babies looking at her in fascination. She seemed to be making some sort of… stuffed animal float? At least I think that's what they're called. Off to the side there was some sort of spell book she was flipping through, in what I can only assume is a search for a cure. Superman floated next to the levitated mutant-looking dog for a while, looking on in amazement and causing the others to shriek and giggle as they saw him do it to. With some level of effort Hawkgirl flew off the floor and was quickly followed by Wonder woman, which left Green Lantern on the floor pouting before Zatanna said something to make them all float back down. I guess Green Lantern would have been able to fly as well if we hadn't removed his ring fearing it would fall off or end in a disaster, heavy on the dis.

I wish I could fly.

I guess I zoned out for a moment because next thing I knew there were tiny hands exploring my face. Little Supes as Wally referred to him as was floating literal inches in front of me. "Hi," I breathed, wondering where this was heading. He seemed nearly taken aback for a moment, probably not expecting me to say a whole lot. But then he was all smiles, babbling to me in a language that no amount of teaching would have taught me.

I think this is the most positive attention he's ever shown me. I hear a click as he places a small hand on my nose, but I didn't think anything of it. It seems like seconds or hours when he lands on my stomach- a hard hit, may I add- and places one of his hands on the symbol on my tshirt. He looks up at me then, seeming more intense than I thought was capable for such a small creature. Then he jumps up again, looking me in the eyes for a moment, and I hope I don't look as nervous as I feel. The mini man of steel came back down, clinging to me and saying a single word that made my heart clench in my chest.

"Mine."

Apparently my silence and absolute shock had become extremely obvious. Zatanna was beaming at me as she made her way to put the babies into cribs. "Congrats Connor!" She exclaimed. I found it difficult to not smile back, so I did. M'gann had at some point moved closer to recline next to me, having morphed her clothing into pajamas, doing the same for her uncle. He was gazing up glassy eyed from his cozy looking blanket, almost dropping into sleep. Superman was already fast asleep, comfortably rising and falling where I held him. I wasn't ready to let him go.

Her smile was nearly blinding.

"That's amazing Connor! I'm so happy for you!" She spoke in a hushed whisper, but I could hear it clearly anyway.

"I definitely never thought this would happen."

She looks up for a moment, smiling wistfully. "Sometimes you just have to be hopeful and wait for that good thing to come along."

The moment was broken when we heard Zatanna's voice shouting, "Guys, a little help?"

"We should probably go help her," M'gann said, making no moves to get up.

"Yeah, probably." I replied, also making no moves to pick myself off the floor. After a couple moments she giggled, lifting herself off the ground and to her feet. I followed, trying to brace myself for what would be next.

Zatanna walked out into the hallway, relieved to see us. "They don't want to sleep, but they seem so tired. I've tried my best to put them down and nothing is working." She glanced back, obviously worried. "What should we do?"

"Let me see," M'gann said, wandering in. She tucked her uncle into one of the several cribs in there and motioned for me to do the same, so I did. The babies in the room were trought about something. Every time their eyes would close, they would snap back open moments later, stubbornly refusing sleep.

"Maybe…" Zatanna tried, looking more stressed by the minute, "Maybe they want a bedtime story? My dad used to do that for me when I was little."

"That could work," I said, kind of unsure.

M'gann looked through some of the bags and pulled out a thin book with the words Goodnight Moon on the cover. "Will this one do?"

Zatanna smirked, taking the book from M'gann. She's been spending too much time with Robin. "That'll do quite nicely. Thanks M'gann." She walked to the door, dimming the lights of the room down slightly and then came back. "Settle around kiddos, I have a story for you."

By the time it was finished all of them were asleep and M'gann was nodding off against my shoulder. I heard a click again and I saw Zatanna had taken a picture of her sleeping dad. She smiled, and turned to me. "The magic of a good story. I put baby monitors in all our bedrooms, so we should be able to hear them if something goes wrong. Goodnight, Superboy." With that she took her leave, yawning slightly.

"C'mon M'gann," I nudged her slightly, and she looked up sleepily. "Time to go to bed."

She yawned as well, said "M'kay, goodnight Connor," and got up and walked out the door.

With all that said and done, I looked around one more time. Satisfied that it seemed to be in order, I left and went to my bedroom. It had been a long day.

Surprise people, I bet you thought you had seen the last of me! To be honest, I kind of thought that was the case as well. I stumbled across this in my docs last night though and I thought.
