Lani: It's been a while since I've written a poem for Death Note! This time I ran through the whole series (so undoubtedly there are spoilers) from the POV of an unnamed narrator. I haven't decided the narrator's identity; it could be you, me, another sobbing fan . . . . But moving on!

Disclaimer: I don't own Death Note, but the poem's mine. And if you wonder why Near and Matt don't get a big mention like Mello, well . . . I was just really wrapped up in Mello's stanza, I suppose, and I kinda forgot. :D Whoops. Anyway, please enjoy.

Another Foretelling

. . .

Angels, have you heard from so high

The melancholic orchestra

Breach and rattle the boiling sky?

Steeples screaming, "Save us, save us,"

Burying a funeral

And foretelling another?

.

Oh angels, have you heard the cry,

The silent anguish locked inside?

Words muted from the red, red light,

Slipping asleep for the last time,

He can offer no farewell.

His hushed eyes gently closing,

Not knowing the day's approaching

With irony unfolding –

Mirroring, foretelling another.

.

Oh angels, did you see the burns,

Did you hear the father's whisper?

The war for children and liars –

Endless, rampant – has just begun.

Before this war is over

Bells will mourn for another.

.

Oh angels, did you feel the fire

Devouring higher and higher?

Steeple screaming, "Release, release,"

A smile at this twisted baptism.

Carefully treading a wire:

On one side, the gaping hole

Known as the martyrs' catharsis;

The other, a darkened soul

Offering the world fatal justice.

.

Angels, I admit it felt right

For the victim yet killer's eyes

To slowly fade to symphonies

Chanting, chanting his prior plea:

Save me. No one's answering

But the ghost of another.

Lani: Hmm, in case this was a tad incoherent, I'll try to clarify briefly: The first stanza is basically all about the rain scene. Then L's death is the second stanza, along with hints of Light's fate in the end. The third stanza covers the explosion, Mr. Yagami, and Mello and Near. (Matt too! 8D) The fourth: Mello's death scene, followed by a small comparison between those who oppose Kira and Kira himself. And then the final stanza meshes both the manga's ending (with Light begging Ryuk to help him) with the anime's ending (Light still begging for help, just in his mind; and then Light seeing L's silhouette). Goodness. Thank you for reading and brownie points if you read this massive author note too!
