Ryan/Alexis
It was all innocent, completely and utterly innocent.
Their friendship was completely natural, especially after her father had married Beckett, bringing them all much closer together.
What wasn't natural, however, was that their friendship had slowly become the most important relationship in his life, that he had to remind himself that he and Jenny hadn't broken up because he had become so caught up in her.
That would have been insane.
He was so much older than her for one thing and for another…she was so way out of his league.
But he found that he couldn't stop thinking about her, innocent things like her smile or planning to call her for a lunch date on a slow day.
The very fact that he had begun to refer to them as lunch 'dates' should have tipped him off, but it wasn't until Esposito had made a passing comment about him spending so much time with her that he realised just how much time he was spending with her.
And how much trouble he was in.
He suddenly realised that he hadn't even considered dating anyone new in the two years since Jenny left because he had her. She, likewise, hadn't had a date in almost as long.
It was time they worked out just what they were doing here, before one of them got hurt or before Castle and Beckett got the wrong (or the right) idea and shot him.
Because it may well have all been innocent, but Kevin Ryan was in love with Alexis Castle.
