"I love you so much."
Spencer wound her arms around Toby's neck. He tugged her tiny hips forward, shielding her with secure arms. Spencer's breath scraped against her ribs, her heart sputtered in her chest, but she didn't want to stop kissing Toby - she felt so victorious, so happy. Hysterical merriment battered against her stomach and ran through her veins. The only thing that made her intense rapture better was the fact that she could feel the same joy radiating from Toby.
After a handful of blissful minutes, Toby slightly retracted. He gently cradled Spencer's face between his hands. His dazzling blue eyes glittered with adoration. "I love you," Spencer lilted, breathless.
Toby beamed, the sight made Spencer's heart race. "You're the best thing that's ever happened to me," he admitted in a soft whisper. Then he dropped his hands from her cheeks, only to take her hand in his and entwine their fingers, grasping the truck's keys in his other palm.
The couple ambled towards the truck. Toby eagerly unlocked it and opened the passenger door for Spencer to climb inside. He jogged to the other side and slid inside. Spencer pulled her knees up to her chest and smiled. Toby revved the engine and laughed quietly. "This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me."
Spencer rested her head on his shoulder and watched as he toyed with the dash controls. "You deserve it," she reminded him. The delicate sunlight frothed in the windows like white wine and played on Toby's grin. The trees that surrounded them were frangible and pale. Spencer had not been this content and at ease in a long time.
Toby pressed a feathery kiss against her chestnut-colored hair. "I love you," he whispered against her scalp. Spencer resisted the urge to giggle. I love you. I love you. I love you.
Toby Cavanaugh loved her. She loved him; irrevocably and boundlessly.
I love you. I love you. I love you, the words resonated over and over again in Spencer mind. She would never get tired of that.
And looking at Toby's equally giddy expression, she knew he wouldn't either.
