After All This Chapter one
Song: Fallin' for you - Colbie Calliat
I listen as Aang whirls Katara around amid the crowd of stunned students. I can hear the slight gasps. I feel their feet hitting the ground as their dance brings them around and around each other. I start to feel happy for them, thinking that they would make a great pair. I knew that Aang felt a strong attachment to Katara, and I was sure they would always be at least friends. Then something stops my happiness in it's tracks. I don't know what it is. It feels like anger, but bitter. A voice whispers in the back of my head, jealousy. I stagger, mentally of course. I am jolted back from my thoughts by a sudden silence in the hubbub, the schoolmaster had come. I quickly start passing out headbands, identical to Aang's, to help us escape.
After the party, on Appa, I act as if I didn't notice the way they had moved differently with each other, and threw in a compliment just to be nice. It hurts too much to say more after that, so I stay silent until we make camp, and then I lie awake, my eyes open blankly, thinking about what made me jealous, and why. I finally fall asleep to find he haunts my dreams, flying around the cloudy reaches of the dream, and Katara drifting closer and closer, whispering I'm so sorry, Toph, so sorry with tears streaming down her blurry face. I wake up unnerved.
The next morning, I firmly decide to ignore my confusion until after the war is over, and I do just so.
