Prologue:

A silvery she-cat slipped effortlessly through the dense undergrowth. It grappled for her pelt, trying desperately to cling to it, but she always escaped. Her paws churned the muddy ground with rapid steps. Rain cascaded from the dark sky above, slicking down her pelt against her skinny frame. The clouds covered any light that might have been offered from the moon and stars. She could barely detect what was in front of her paws. But, she continued on.

Thunder roared monstrously above her head and lightning cracked through the sky, offering up brief light to her journey. She had no clue where she was or where she was going. The only thing she knew is that she needed to find shelter, and she needed it soon.

Another streak of lightning flashed across the sky. In that brief second, she saw a small hill of rock only a tree-length ahead of her. There had to be shelter there. Picking up the pace, she bolted forward. She searched every crevice for an entrance to a cave of some sort, but found nothing awaiting her. Fury raged through her. Why would that dumb cat send her here? There was nothing!

Then, as yet another flare lit up the sky, she saw it. A hole was perched on top of the rock. She clawed her way up the slippery surface. One of her claw got pinched in a crack and she cried out in pain. She yanked it out, retching it. Blood seeped around it, but she couldn't be bothered by that now. Not when she was so close.

Finally making it to the top, she nosed at the hole. Darkness filled the space, so she couldn't see what awaited her inside. At this moment, that fact eluded her concern. She just needed an accommodation where she could rest and flee the storm.

Climbing into it, she discovered it was a tunnel. It led downwards, the stone cold on her raw pads. It grew chillier the farther down she went, the air becoming crisper. It almost hurt to breath and she wasn't sure she continue down much farther.

With a few more paw-steps, it opened into a cavern. The cavern was dim, though not as black as the tunnel had been. She advanced wearily, as her sight still failed her here. Water sloshed around her paws, and she could see the slight reflection of a pool in front of her. She drank from it gratefully, having not had water that she could drink for her whole days journey.

She felt a strange sensation creeping through her legs. It seemed to be pulling her downward, urging her to lay in the pool. Her legs, already exhausted, could not support the sudden heaviness of her body.

She gave in, letting the water soak around her. It seemed to ease her pain and relax her muscles. She took a deep breath. The noise of the storm was gone and now all she had was this serene peace. A yawn escaped from her lips. Her eyes grew bleary. She lay her head on a rock, leaving her body submerged in the water. Then, she let sleep overtake her.

She opened her eyes to find herself under the water. She tried to rise out of it, but it clung to her, not allowing her to move. She clawed desperately to get free, but it was unyielding. It held her back, slowing her movements until she was stationary. She tried to cry for help, but her mouth was forced shut. Panic set in, running through her veins rampantly. But, there was nothing she could do, no matter how hard she tried.

And she tried and tried again, but nothing ever changed. Then, suddenly, she stopped. She did nothing, no longer trying to escape. Tranquility flowed through her, a smirk on her face. The water calmed, and lay without disturbance.

And she was never seen again.
