"Ack!" Will slapped another mosquito away. They were swarming him. Halt gave him a look.
"Stop sputtering, boy," Halt seemed perfectly fine. He was brewing another pot of coffee. Rangers milled all around, the annual gathering putting everyone in high spirits. Except for Will. Gilan strolled over.
"Hey, can I have some coff-" Gilan was cut off my Halt.
"No. Go make your own, lazy butt," Halt grumbled. Gilan made a pouty face.
"Fine, Mr. Greedy. What's up with you, Will?" he asked as he sat down on a log, which was placed around the campfire. Other campfires dotted the campgrounds. Will was sitting on a conveniently placed tree stump, surrounded by other tree stumps.
"Bugs. Bugs everywhere. Swarming me!" He scratched a red spot on his wrist, and drew his cloak closer around him. "I no taste good, Mr. Mosquito." He slapped away another bug which perched on top of his nose. Will pulled up his cowl over his face and huddled into a ball.
"I see you're having fun!" Gilan said cheerfully. No one else around the threesome seemed to be getting bitten by the incessant bugs. Halt rolled his eyes and sipped his beloved coffee. Crowley strolled over, an apprentice by his side. He nicked a mug of coffee from Halt. Halt raised an eyebrow but let it slide.
"Hey guys, I have this great new invention!" Crowley said, lazily flicking away a mosquito. Will peeked through his cowl in amazement as the commandant didn't get bitten. Sorcery, Will thought, his eyes going dark.
"I'm not an invention," the boy grumbled, eyeing a cloak that was draped over Crowley's arm. It appeared to be that Crowley had taken his away, as there was another that he was wearing. The boy's bare arms were dotted with growing red spots, and he itched at them.
"Here's Adam, he's such a cooperative little boy, who also doubles as a mosquito repellant!" The boy, apparently Adam, sighed. He had short blondish hair to match his short height and determined hazel eyes. Halt glanced up at Adam and went back to his coffee, obviously not interesting in Adam or what Crowley was saying.
"Nasty things, apprentices are," he said.
"Well, Adam, it's nice to meet you!" Gilan stood up and vigorously shook Adam's hand. Will nodded a greeting from beneath his cloak, his eyes peeking through a hole he had made in the fold of the cloak. Other than that, he had pulled it all around him so he was completely covered, even in the heat of the late afternoon.
"Nice to meet you too," Will mumbled. Adam seemed to be even more miserable than he. But, out of pity, Will got up and pulled out the container of that mosquito-cream-that-smells-bad-but-works-good out of the first aid kit. He tossed it over to the other apprentice, who caught it effortlessly considering all the bugs surrounding him and Will's crooked aim from trying not to get bitten. Neither apprentice noticed Gilan's mischievous glint in his eyes.
Pleases review no matter how terrible and short but I'll update tomorrow!
