"Wait, what?!"
The Avengers were assembled in the common room, all of them staring at Hill.
"Okay, let me get this straight. You're asking us to take in an underaged girl, who happens to be a mutant, as part of the Avengers? What about Baldy?"
"Mr. Stark, let me remind you that this girl is the daughter of one of the government's highest ranking officials! Who happened to sign the mutant registration act. What makes you think that Professor Xavier will allow such a girl in his school?"
"What, SHIELD run out of nannies?" Tony asked.
"All we're asking you is to watch over her. As a favour. Whoever assassinated her parents might be out for her as well. Until everything is cleared up."
Hill was looking directly at Steve now. She knew that the decision rested on his shoulders. Barton and Romanoff might be SHIELD agents, but they weren't running this team.
"Let's talk about this. As a team." His warning seemed to be directed towards Tony, who looked like he was about to say something rude. Hill nodded curtly and stepped out of the room.
"You can't actually be serious." Tony said, incredulous.
"I'm not the world's most responsible baby sitter either, Cap. I don't think the girl would be any safer with us than with Xavier." Bruce fiddled with the Rubiks cube he was holding.
"I'm not sure. The US government has been harsh on mutants. Even if Xavier was willing, the other X-Men wouldn't be as accomodating." Natasha said carefully.
"I agree with Nat. Besides, we've escorted high profile targets before, this shouldn't be anything different."
"I do not see why Tony is so displeased. I, for one, would enjoy meeting the youth of this world." Thor said.
"Then it's settled. We'll take her." Steve walked out of the room, to inform Hill of his decision.
Exasperated, Tony sprawled out on the couch.
"Just make sure she doesn't touch my stuff."
