The Dance
He stepped into the gazebo at the park. Couples had already congregated there, each swaying to the time of the song, completely oblivious to the man that had just entered. It didn't matter, he had eyes for only The band finished the last wailing notes and that is when Steve saw her. She was waiting for him. She was wearing the dress he had bought her and her hair was tied back in ribbons. The bass guitar began to play its first riff.
I've got sunshine on a cloudy day. When it's cold outside, I've got the month of May.
He walked over to her and got on his knees as he extended his hand.
"May I have this dance?" He asked. She giggled and took his hand. He grabbed her other hand and the two began to move in sync with the rhythm.
Well, I guess you say, what can make me feel this way? My girl. Talkin' about my girl. My girl!
As the trumpets began to play, she giggled and smiled ear to ear, stamping her feet in those buckled shoes she just had to have. As she skipped around holding Steve's hands, she fell to the ground. She laughed gleefully, as he brought her back up into his arms.
Well, I guess you say what can make me feel this way? My girl. Talkin' about my girl. My girl!
As the song began to fade away, she curtsied, but Steve just wrapped his arms around her and picked her up.
"I love you Evy."
"I love you too daddy!"
In dedication to my niece, who will be born within the next few weeks, hopefully healthy and happy, and to all the soldiers who just want to come home and dance with their girls.
