Thank you guys for the reviews! I got a stupid goofy grin every time I read one. :D It seems for some strange reason you guys actually like this so heres the next chapter.

And everything out of the ordinary is part of the AU (ie cell phones, Mako and Bolin's parents being alive, Korra being from the Northern Water Tribe ect.) but if somethings especially wierd or doesnt make sense feel free to ask me about it.

Also Im terrible at spelling and grammar stuff. Eh just not my thing. Sounds like Im in despreate need of a beta huh?

"So when's this happening?"

Korra rolled her eyes as she searched for darker clothes. "And here, I thought you came to see how your bestest friend in the whole world was doing." She said sarcastically. She turned around to face Asami who was lounging on her bed. She had shown up at the air temple earlier out of the blue.

"Have you noticed that almost all of my clothes are blue?" Korra asked thoughtfully as she moved to her wardrobe on the other side of her room. To that Asami answered with a laugh "yes, Korra I've noticed."

The wardrobe wasn't offering the water bender any better results "Well, if you want me to do this. I need some stealth clothes." She instantly regretted her words when Asami was off the bed and dragging her towards the door a second later.

"You are so right. We need to go…"

"No." korra said firmly. But not nearly as firm as Asami's grip on her bicep.

"Shopping." she finished happily.

"No! I don't need…."

"The mall?" Korra questioned as they entered one of the many large busy building. The bright late morning sun shone through a giant window in the high ceiling, brightly illuminating the area.

"Where else?" She said guiding Korra into a nearby shop and quickly rummaging through its selection.

"Why do I get the feeling were not here for stealth clothes?" she asked as she followed behind her friend.

"We are we are….oh! This would be perfect on you!" Asami exclaimed shoving a deep red dress at korra who eyed the skimpy material like it was a hissing snake. But she had been on enough shopping sprees with the other teen to know resistance was futile. She reluctantly took the dress with a sigh.

"I hate shopping." she muttered under her breath.

This continued for several more stores and hours. Finally korra's boredom was getting the best of her. With her back to the stores wide entrance she leaned on the rack of expensive clothes that separated her from her friend.

"Asami…" she whined "please, we've been here for forever." When she didn't get a response Korra continued, "why aren't you with Mako? Instead of stealing my Saturday from me?"

"Stealing?"

"Yes, stealing."

"His dad took him and Bolin fishing or something for the rest of the day. They won't be back till later."

"Well that explains it." she muttered to herself.

"You know you didn't answer my earlier question. When is this happening?" Completely ignoring the other teen. Korra sighed.

"It has to be tonight. She works tomorrow."

"Doesn't she work every day?"

"Yeah, well, usually. But she usually goes home early on Saturdays. Well, earlier anyway."

Asami finally looked up at her with amusement dancing on her face.

"And how do you know that?"

Korra pouted. "Are you going to call me a stalker with obsessive tendencies?"

She laughed wholeheartedly. "Your words korra, not mine."

She was going to add more, but she spotted something behind korra's shoulder that made her smile turn into a wide grin. Before korra could turn around Asami announced loudly, "Come one, this place has no style." She quickly walked around the rack. Korra could have sworn Asami shopped there all the time but she didn't comment. Outside she hardly notice how few people were meandering about as she asked,

"Are we finally going to get what we came here for?" She turned in surprise when instead of Asami she heard,

"Korra …" came a familiar stern voice "why am I not surprised to see you here."

With her arms cross over her chest stood the Chief of police in all her metal bending uniform glory. Korra didn't even notice the other officer as she grinned a grin Lin was all too familiar with. But before she could say anything to the woman Asami eagerly said,

"Chief Bei Fong! What a coincidence! we were just talking about you."

Korra's smile dropped like a rock and she shot the other teen a murderous glare. Asami gave her a sly look through the corner of her eye. She didn't like that look at all, not one bit. Asami was going to say something terrible or ridiculously embarrassing or worse…. Something alluding to the dare, she could just tell.

"In fact…" Asami started slowly. Korra watched helpless knowing her supposed friend was about to royally screw her over.

'Shit, korra, think, think…' faster than lightning Korra's hand shot out towards Asami's neck. Silencing the girl with a solid whack to the windpipe.

"Korra here was just saying…" she collapsed clutching her throat.

Smile back in place "Chief!" Korra exclaimed taking the older woman's attention off of the struggling body on the ground.

"You're looking …" she trailed off purposely letting her smoldering gaze travel the length of Lin's body. Twice. The chief of police stood stiffly with her jaw clenched waiting to berate korra.

"….professional" she finished. Lin's eyes narrowed and responded with,

"I think your friend…"

"She's fine." she said dismissively and didn't spare the gasping Asami a glance.

"Um are you sure? I think you might have actually hurt her." Lin's officer said concerned, gaping slightly in shock. The chief turned towards her.

"Check the next ten shops in this wing." She said with authority.

"Of course. Right away, Chief." With that the lesser ranking officer was off.

"Alone at last." korra said happily but Lin just took a step closer to her.

"There are a group of kids hiding somewhere here in the mall after vandalizing the first floors water fountain." She took another step, glowering down at the younger woman.

"You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you?"

Instead of answering korra instead opted to appreciate the way Lin's long lashes framed her intense light green eyes. The light caused there spiky shadows to spread over (what korra believed to be undeniably perfect) cheek bones. She loved the two faded light pink scars that ran parallel to each other on her right cheek and her straight nose. And good spirits those lips. Korra's heart skipped a beat when she realized that later tonight she would be kissing those same pale pink lips. She swallowed and continued her gaze downward past the pale neck and over the metal covered chest. She bit her lip, her stare lingering there. Professional as the uniform was it did little to hide the Chief curves.

Suddenly fingers beckoning skyward interrupted Korra's view.

"My eyes are up here, Korra." Came a growl. Reluctantly Korra dragged her gaze back to those same intense green eyes with a wide smirk.

"Do you know about the kids or not?"

"Mmm…. Vandalizing a water fountain sounds pretty boring." She took a step forward into Lin's personal space. "And surely by now you know I'm anything but boring." She murmured locking eyes with the older woman.

"Stop that…"

"Stop….what?" looking up at her, their noses barley an inch away.

"Stop looking at me like that…" she sounded oddly frustrated.

"Looking at you…. Like what?" She asked with a smirk.

"Like you're…. " She grounded her teeth, words escaping her. "Like you're…..trying to…." She trailed off and exhaled through her nose, clearly bothered. Straightening up slighty she didn't even realize that she was leaning toward the water bender.

"You smell good…"

"What?" Talk about left field.

"Yeah," Korra started as she leaned forward. Coming close but not quite touching. "Like earth …and apples …and…"

"Korra…" Came a croak from below, interrupting. "I'm ….going to kill…you."

As if just then realizing how inappropriate close they were Lin took a large step backwards and ran a hand down her face as she tried to get control over herself. She would never understand how Korra could get her so …utterly…. She didn't even know. And the worse part? It was like the teen didn't even have to try.

Korra scowled at Asami as she struggled to her feet, wheezing. She just had to go and ruin the moment.

"What…. The hell?" she demanded angrily, her voice raspy, glaring at the other teen.

"What?" she asked right back, annoyed.

"Don't 'what' me?" she whirled toward the Chief of police "Why haven't you arrested her for assault yet?" She asked accusingly. Sounding like a seventy year old smoker. An amused smile played on Lin's lips.

"I probably should. Spirits know how you've managed to stay out of the precinct for so long." She said to Korra.

"I know," she said suddenly sullen. "I've missed you."

Before she could react the officer was back. "All clear Chief. No one matched the descriptions and most of the shops down there are closed anyway."

"Were they completely locked up?"

"Yes, ma'am"

Lin nodded. "Meet up with the others at the check point. I'll be right behind you. You two…" she looked to Korra with narrow eyes "especially you, stay out of trouble." When the officer was out of ear shoot she leaned toward Korra glaring daggers at her. "And for the love of all that is holy! Stop. Hitting. On. Me."

When they were out of sight Korra said with a grin, "She tells me that every time she leaves. It's like her own special good bye for me."

Any other time Asami would have found this funny but she was currently still furious with her friend.

"What the hell Korra?" Her voice still hoarse. "You could have broken…." She coughed "my windpipe."

Korra rolled her eyes. "You are so dramatic. Anyway it's your own fault." She scowled "You were going to say something ridiculous."

"I wasn't even going to say anything!"

"Yeah I'm so sure."

"I wasn't!" She snatched up the bags that she had dropped, shoved them at Korra and stomped off. "You're carrying all this shit."

The water bender huffed and caught up with Asami easily. "Okay then. What were you going to say?"

The girl in question simply rolled her eyes and said "She wants you, you know."

"What?"

"She wants you."

"Who?" Korra asked puzzled as they went down stairs of the mall. Among the regular weekend crowd stood a police officer here and there. It didn't even occur to her to wonder why the Chief of police was chasing a bunch of kids in the mall until they approached the center of the malls main floor. There was once a huge and beautiful water fountain displayed there that was currently destroyed beyond recognition. It looked like a giant pile of wet rocks with what looked like a small pond surrounding it.

Korra whistled as they gave it and the cleaners a wide berth. "That's some vandalizing. I wonder how much that's going to cost." Her pace slowed as she noticed a small red circle with an A in the middle of it. I was spray painted on one of the larger rocks. Was that some new gangs tag? Korra wondered. It did look familiar.

"Anyway who?"

"Lin."

"Lin? Where?" She started looking around for the earth bender. Asami took a deep breath willing the irritation and impatiens away. Slowly she said "Lin wants you."

"Wants me…." She said slowly, questioning. "Oh! …Wait! What? No she doesn't."

"Yeah, she does"

Korra shot her a perplexed look. "How would you know?"

"I could have cut the sexual tension with a cleaver." She said dryly.

Korra looked at her through the corner of her eye "I don't think that's how that expression goes. Here!"

She darted in to a shop so quickly that Asami had to stop and walk back. She looked in distain at what the shop had to offer as she followed Korra who moved remarkably fast for someone who was carrying so much.

"What are we doing in here?"

Spinning around to look at her, Korra replied annoyed. "Stealth clothes! Do you even remember why we came here?" She pushed Asami's purchases back to her and turned to continue looking.

"And I think that was just my sexual tension." She returned to the original conversation. Then muttered under her breath, "Spirits know I have enough for the both of us."

"Trust me I know feelings. And Lin Bei Fong has some pent up one's for you." She sounded completely sure of herself.

Korra bit her lip, not really seeing the black shirt she was looking at as she fought down the fluttering warm feeling of hope in her chest. She shook her head.

"You're crazy. The only pent up feelings has for me are probably anger and annoyance. And besides Lin…" she sighed and then mumbled, rubbing the back of her neck, "Lin wouldn't want someone like me."

Asami chuckled at how blind her friend could be. "You know she didn't look at me, not once. Or anything else for that matter. I never saw her eyes leave you. You're selling yourself short and you know it."

The other teen stared at her as if judging how serious she was. She looked away from the sincere eyes not sure what to do with the honesty they showed. Or what to do with the actual possibility of her being right.

"You're wrong though. About one thing," she said putting the shirt back "She did look at you once…"

Asami frowned, not recalling a time where the Chief's gaze wavered from the darker girl.

"Had something to do with you suddenly falling on the floor and hacking up a lung…" Korra laughed as she easily dodged Asami's kick.

"How do I look?" Korra asked eagerly.

"Like a ninja. Lose the mask."

"But you're not even looking!"

"Lose it."

"But…"

"Lose it Korra."

"Fine" she grumbled yanking off the mask and throwing it at Asami who was once again lounging on Korra's bed, staring at her cell phone. The sun was a couple of hours away from setting when they finally, finally got back from the mall.

"Why did you let me buy it if you weren't going to let me wear it?" she asked irritated.

"I didn't let you. You insisted, in fact I told you not to buy it!"

"Whatever. Now how do I look?"

This time she actually did look up. From head to toe the water bender was dressed in black. She wore a thin black hoodie with matching pants that fit her snug enough to not get in the way and lose enough it didn't restrict movement. She tucked them into the black boots that she wore.

" Hhmmmm…." She said returning her focus to her phone "lose the ponytail."

Korra made a face. "Why?"

"Because when I see a high long ponytail, I think 'Korra.' Lose it."

Huffing she did as she was told. "Can I keep my…?"

"No."

Grinding her teeth she took out all of her hair clips.

"Besides they don't go with your all black theme you absolutely had to have."

Rolling her eyes she asked, "What am I suppose to do with all this then?" she said gesturing to all the lose hair that now laid on her shoulders and back. Sighing, Asami got off the bed and walked towards her friend.

"There are these things call rubber bands." she said pulling one off her wrist. "I know they don't have them in the water tribe so I'll show you how they work."

Korra snatched the tie out of her hand. "You're a real smart ass, you know that?"

Grinning, Asami patted her cheek. "And you love me for it."

Before Korra could swat the hand away there was a knock on her door and Jinora popped her head in.

"Dad wants to know if Asami is staying for dinner."

Korra looked at the other girl, questioning.

"Cant. I'm meeting Mako soon."

"Okay!" she her gaze to korra. "Why are you dressed like a ninja?"

Instead of answering she walked over to firmly shut the door. She turned back to a chuckling Asami.

"You suck. I thought the whole point of losing the mask was so I didn't look like a ninja."

"Only ninjas dress in all black, Korra."

Korra shot her a very skeptical look "And how would you know? You know what? Never mind. Doesn't matter."

Asami held up her phone. "You want me to tell Mako or Bolin anything? You know just in case?"

She shot her a nasty look "You're paying for my bail when I'm in jail for breaking and entering and theft."

The other girl grinned. "You know you can always return whatever you take."

Rolling her eyes, Korra went to her wardrobe to change back to her normal clothes. "Yeah that'll be great. I was gonna return it, judge. I swear."

"Well, I've got to get going." Smiling, she made her way to the door turning back she said in a teasing voice "Good luck." and was gone. Korra scowled at the door.

"You've been awfully quite tonight." said Pema.

It took a moment for korra to realize the observation was directed toward her.

"Oh. Yeah. Just…you know a little tired." She took bite of food. It was a lie of course. She couldn't stop thinking about what she was only hours away from doing.

"You haven't forgotten about Friday have you?" Tenzin questioned wiping food off of Meelo's face.

"Uuhhh…" her mind drawing blank. Wasn't it a holiday or something? Did she have to baby sit?

"Maybe?"

"Korra!" Pema admonished gently. "Its Bumi's birthday. We're hosting a dinner for him."

"How could you forget uncle Bumi's birthday?" Ikki asked dramatically.

Korra slapped her forehead. It had completely slipped her mind.

"Wait. You having a dinner for Bumi?" she said eyebrows raised. "That doesn't really seem like his thing."

"Well there will be no parties in this air temple." Tenzin stated gruffly.

"But I thought you said I could have my birthday party." Ikki whined.

"You can, dear. Your fathers just afraid of a party with your uncle."

The little girl frowned, "But why?"

"Well." Her mother started "Your uncles a little bit …of a wild card."

"What does that mean?" she asked eager to learn something new. Korra snickered watching Pema struggle to explain.

"That means uncles crazy, Ikki." Jinora voiced.

"So since you're obviously expecting me there who else is coming?"

It was Pema that supplied an answer happy for the change of subject. "It's going to be quite the get together. I think the guest list is around fifty now."

Korra laughed "Yeah. That's going to stay a nice and civilized dinner." She said doubtful.

She was lying down, anxiously waiting for the right time when her phone vibrated somewhere on the bed. After fumbling for what felt like a full minute she saw that she had a text from Bolin.

I'll never think less of you if you back out

Yeah right! She thought. The last time she had done that was two years ago and they still haven't let her live it down. She frowned looking at the phones display it was already half past midnight. Taking a deep breath she got up from her bed leaving her phone. Now was as good a time as any.

Korra had turned sneaking out of the air temple and off of the island into an art form. And it was probably going to be the easiest thing she'd do tonight. The moon sat full and bright in the dark clear sky. With her hood up and her hair in a ponytail at the base of her neck, she made her way quickly thought the still busy city.

Lin lived in a large private apartment building that wasn't too far away. After cutting through several back yards and alley ways Korra found herself facing a cream colored wall far sooner than she would have thought. She took another deep breath. Beyond the wall was the back property of the Lin's apartment building. She took a series of large steps backward and then took a running jump, vaulting over the wall. She landed softly on the other side.

Scanning the moon lit scenery; a smile came to her face. She's been to Lin's place once or twice before, usually with Tenzin but she never saw the back. So the large pond glittering with the moons white light was a pleasant surprise. Seeing that the coast was clear she jogged over to the back of the building eyeing its flat face. It was large but not crowded with only two apartments on each floor. It was seven stories tall and the windows varied in three sizes. Large horizontal, for the living room she assumed. Small and vertical for a bathroom. And what could best be described as in between for a bedroom.

It was a large horizontal window, third up from the bottom on the left side that korra was looking for. It wasn't hard to find and it was dark just as she had hoped.

She ran a hand over her face. How the hell do I end up in these situations? She asked herself. Oh yeah. Asami. Fuck you Asami.

She was glad that the pond was there because as she examined the wall she realized that her original plan to scale the building would never have worked. In fact there wasn't a single crack or fissure in it. She sighed thinking there was only one way up. Checking her surrounding once more she walked the short distance to the pond. Taking her stance she lifted her arms, beckoning the water. The liquid obediently followed her arms motions as she ushered it toward to the building and up. And up and up until it was in front of Lin's window. She closed her fist condensing the water into ice forming a tall, thin pillar. She wasted no time taking a running leap onto it using her bending to make cracks and gaps so she could quickly and easily climb the ice. When she reached the top she balanced herself and took out a pair of black gloves.

'Let it be known that I am nothing if not thorough.' She thought putting them on.

She pressed her covered hands over the glass and gently pushed up. Nothing happened. She pushed harder but the window stayed in place. She slapped her forehead causing her to nearing fall off her perch. Of course the chief of police would lock her windows. She pinched the bridge of her nose.

'What the hell am I going to do now?'

Just as she was starting to think this was doomed, her face went slack. She turned back to the window, replaced her hands and smoothly pushed it to the right. It slid open silently.

She rolled her eyes. 'I'm an idiot.'

As silently as she could manage, she successfully entered without a sound. Taking off her gloves, she whirled around and quickly melted the ice. Nothing more suspicious than a pillar of ice in the summer time. Then soundlessly closed the window and turned around. Even though she knew Lin was rich (she was a Bei Fong) the apartment wasn't that big probably two bedrooms but it was spacious enough. The moon light made it easy to see and after a moment of waiting for Lin to materialize and kill her. She got up from her crouch.

She swiftly made her way over to a shelf that hung high on a wall. It held books, pictures and other keep sakes. 'Alright' she thought to herself 'something that's without a doubt Lin's.' she didn't think books on metal bending count. She didn't look at the pictures. For one thing she wanted to get out of there as soon as possible and it would be too noticeable if she took them out of there frames. By the time she reached the end of the shelf she saw some really random things like a tiny glass lion-turtle, random clumps of metal and odd metallic mechanism that made her insanely curious but nothing she could justify taking. She looked around the room, over the sofa and TV and all the other furniture. Everything was neat and in place. She paused her frantic thoughts when she spotted something gleaming farther in the room.

She soundlessly made her way to it. When she got closer she saw that it was metal catching the moon light. Curious, she picked it up gingerly. It was a necklace, its chain was fine thin silver and had a small locket. She held it up in the light scrutinizing it. Lin Bei Fong was inscribed in small but elegant lettering on the lockets back. It looked like the locket part was broken and worn with light scratches over the pretty shiny surface.

Korra chewed her lip. It clearly belonged to Lin… and she could return it. She kept the locket closed not looking inside it as she debated. She made an inaudible sigh as she gently put it back on the table. She'll find something else. Besides its absence might be noticed before she could bring it back. She looked around and was surprised to see a short hallway to her right. She didn't realize how far shed gone into the apartment. At the end of the hall way Korra could see a door that was ajar.

She swallowed thickly and her heartbeat kicked up several notches. Beyond that door laid a sleeping Lin.

'Are you really going to do this?' her common sense demanded. 'You know it's not going to end well.'

For a moment she seriously contemplated backing out. But then she started toward the door on light feet. The chances of Lin literally killing her weren't as high as the chance of her just throwing in jail for the night. And yes. Yes that was better than facing the consequences of backing out.

When she reached the door it was open but not wide enough for her to slip through. She was going to have to push it open farther.

How to open it without making any noise, she wondered to herself. She shifted slightly. Well there was nothing she could do but to open as slowly as possible. She frowned, but what if it was one of those doors that screeched even louder when it's opened slowly?

She squared her shoulders with determination. She pressed her index finger against the door and gently, slowly pushed the door a fraction. When no noise met her ears she pressed harder until the gap was wide enough for her to slip through. 'Ok' she thought to herself 'I just have to go in there, give her a peck and be out of here….'

But as soon as her foot touched down on the other side of the door it felt like the world tilted and the breath was knocked out of her as she was slammed against the wall. She was too stunned to stop the cry or pain and surprise when something snapped around both her wrist and yanked her hands above her head. It happened in a fraction of second.

"Who are you? And what the fuck are you doing in my home?"

With her heart in her throat Korra wiggled what she could of her fingers in a wave. "Hey… Lin. …You scared the shit out me just now."
