Thanks for the reviews :D You guys rock my socks right off my feet. And to GTFOMyLand and Kethrom for being brave enough to Beta this.
Lin tightened her hold on the teen as she pushed her tongue into Korra's mouth, surprised by how good it all felt. Just the feel of the other woman against her was enough to make her burn with need. She groaned against her while she relished in the taste of coffee and something uniquely Korra. What had started as an innocent kiss was rapidly turning into something else as Korra dropped her hands to wrap around the other woman while her tongue playfully met Lin's.
Lin pulled back slightly breathless while she could still think. She smirked as she looked into dark blue eyes for long moment.
"What?" Korra breathed.
Shaking her head Lin said, "Nothing." She gave her one last chaste kiss before backing away. "I have to get dressed."
The teen frowned at the loss of contact but nodded. "It's probably almost eight anyway; I should get going." She muttered.
"Stay. I'll drop you off." She said as she left the kitchen.
"Drop me off?"
The Dare~The Dare
Korra bit her lip trying her hardest not to laugh as the car stalled once again. Lin cursed under her breath as she restarted the engine.
"Shut up."
"I didn't say anything." She said, chuckling and trying to conceal her grin with her blue scarf. It was damn near impossible though when Lin had cursed even louder while she fumbled with the gear shift as the light changed. "This whole time I never knew you had a car." Biting her lip harder she added, "Do you want me to drive?"
Lin shot her a look through the corner of her eye. "You can drive stick?"
"My best friend is Asami Sato."
The older woman debated for a second before sharply pulling over into a no parking zone. The car sputtered in protest when she didn't switch down the gears correctly and died again. The teen laughed whole heartily as she walked to the driver's side, shooting Lin an amused grin all the while. Once behind the wheel, Korra strapped on her seat belt and waited for Lin to do the same before she started the engine and easily maneuver them back onto the road.
After a solid minute Korra couldn't hold it in anymore. "Okay. Why did you buy a stick shift if you didn'tknow how drive it?" she asked trying not to laugh.
"One, I know how drive a stick."
"Of course you do." Korra said happily.
Lin rolled her eyes. "And second I didn't buy it. It was a gift."
"Someone bought you a car?" she shot her a disbelieving look.
"For the love of all that is holy! Keep your eyes on the road." Lin cringed. Korra laughed, doing as she was told.
"I never use it though. Don't need to."
About five minutes later she pulled the car over and parked. Lin looked around atthe neighborhood that they were in, confused. It looked quietand suburban- not at all like a school.
"I told you I wasn't going to play hooky with you."
"I know." She said looking at her with a smile. "It's pretty late so the traffic up front is probably really heavy by now and I wouldn't want you to have to show off your epic driving skills."
"You're hilarious." Lin said dryly.
"Plus this is a short cut to my first class." She shrugged, unbuckling her seat belt. She pointed to a fence that separated the neighborhood from the back of Republic High. She looked at Lin as they sat there for another moment, their eyes locked ontoeach other.
"When can I see you again?" Korra ask softly. Green eyes danced over her face before Lin replied in the same tone,
"I don't know." She reached over and Korra's breath hitched when the older woman's hands brushed against her hip. Smirking, Lin pulled out the cell phone that was in Korra's pocket.
"I'm working late tonight. Would you be willing to come over tomorrow morning? Or is that too early?" She said, putting her number in the phone and calling it.
Korra smiled a small smile for a moment before saying gently, "you don't get it, do you?"
"Get what?" she asked frowning. She had never seen the teen look at her like that.
"Nothing. Yeah, I'll come over tomorrow morning."
"Good." She decided to let it go. "Now why do you have a hundred and two missed calls?"
With a knowing grin Korra took the cell phone back. "I'm all sorts of popular these days."
Lin raised an amused eyebrow before reaching for the door handle but Korra grabbed her hand at the last second. She looked up in to pale emerald eyes through her eye lashes and shyly asked.
"Can I have a kiss?"
Lin found herself pressing her lips against the teens without evening thinking about it.
'She could ask me to jump off a cliff with that look and I'd probably do it without a second thought.' Lin mused.
She knew she was getting carried away when her hands found themselves on the teen's waist and her tongue deep in Korra's mouth. She pulled back reluctantly searchingKorra's blue eyes.
Exhaling through her nose she said, "Are you still sure about this? I should warn you, I'm terrible at relationships." She frowned.
Korra bit her lip, with a sinking feeling. "Are you having second thoughts?"
"No." she murmured, using her thumb to ease the pink flesh from between the younger woman's teeth. "But I should be."
"Don't say that." she kissed the pad of Lin's thumb.
The moment was ruined when a chiming bell rang in the distance.
"Damn it. I have to go. I'll see you tomorrow." Korra shot her one last smile before rushing out of the car.
The Dare~The Dare
"Korra." Mrs. Howl drawled when Korra finally made it to her first period class. The grey bun on the top of her head was as tight as always as she regarded the teen over a pair of half moon glasses. "How nice of you to grace us with you presence… Thank you for taking time out of your busy morning to make it to myclass." She said in her monotone voice. Not only did the old hag hate her, but she was alsoas sarcastic as the sky was blue.
"Well? Do you have a pass?" Korra handed over the slip of paper. She would have been able to make it in time if she didn't have to stop by her locker. Grumbling Korra made her way to her seat beside a familiar fire bender while everyone returned to taking notes.
"You're hilarious, you know that?" Mako said under his breath.
"That's the second time I've heard that today so it must be true." Korra muttered back. "But I'm not sure what I did that was so entertaining." She opened her note book and pretended to listen to the monotone lecture.
"Asami's going to kill you when she sees you're perfectly alive and healthy and that you've been ignoring all our calls just to mess with us."
Korra shot him a grin. "I have no idea what you're talking about. That sounds cruel and not friend-like at all. You really think so little of me, Mako?"
He rolled his eyes. "She and Bolin were just about ready to head over to the Air Temple toconfront Tenzin when you didn't show up this morning."
"What does Tenzin have to do with anything?"
"When we called the temple, he wouldn't let us talk to you. He said you were grounded or something. And Bolin automatically assumed that Lin murdered you and that he was somehow in on it."
Korra couldn't help but laugh because that sounded just like Bolin.
"Korra, I didn't realize you found literature so amusing. Perhaps it will be even funnier in detention?" Mrs. Howl's voice never changed pitch or tone.
Korra instantly sobered up. "Uh no. No, it wouldn't."
They were silent as the lecture continued on. After a couple of minutes Mako whispered, "You haven't forgotten that practice starts back up this week, have you?"
"How could I possibly forget? The most important tournament of the year is coming up!" She had completely forgotten.
The Dare~The Dare
No one from the gang shared her next two classes. Korra filled them insteadwith doodles and day dreams of Lin. She spent a lot of the time fighting the urge to text the older woman, knowing that Lin's number was in her phone made the device seem ten pounds heavier.
Korra was at her locker, switching books during the break before fourth period when her locker door slammed shut in her face. She turned to see an irritated Asami glowering at her.
"Hey, Asami." She said cheerfully, but the other teen only narrowed her eyes more.
"Don't 'Hey, Asami' me! Where have you been?" her eyes dropped and she gasped. "You're wearing the scarf I got you! I told you it would look great with those jeans." Korra didn't recall this but before she could say anything, Asami's expression changed back to pissed off.
"You told me you lost it!" She said accusingly.
"I said I misplaced it. Big difference." She reopened her locker to finish looking for the books she needed. After a minute she turned to look at her friend. Asami didn't say anything else. Korrawas instantly on guard when she saw that Asami'seyes were narrowed again, but thistimenot in anger or annoyance but in consideration.
"What?" she asked suspiciously.
"I've never seen you wear a scarf before. Not even during the winter time."
'Fuck.' She thought as she buried her head in the locker and started dramatically rummaging about. "Yeah I found it. Liked the color and thought 'why not?'" finally finding what she needed, she closed the metal door. "Also figured you'd like that I was being all fashionable… and what not. Well I've got to get to class."
She was turning to leave when Asami pulled her back.
"Korra." She said slowly.
"Yeah?" the other teen answered just as slowly.
"What's under the scarf?"
Korra swallowed. "Nothing. What do you think is under it?" Just then the bell rang and she used the distraction to make a quick and stealthy exit.
The Dare~The Dare
Fourth period was one of Korrafavorite classes. For one thing she was usually awake and it was actually interesting. Bythe time she arrivedit was blatantly obvious that there wasn't going to be any teaching. Students were meandering about and talking all relaxed with an unfamiliar guy reading the news paper behind the teacher'sdesk.
'Great.' She thought as she walked to her usual seat and greeted some friends. 'Any other Monday this would have been great but the one day I could use the distraction I'm going to be stuck with my thoughts.'
She was staring out the window not listening to the conversations around her while thinking about Lin's lips… and tongue …and her…
"Move it or lose it."
She nearly screamed in shock when she saw Asami slide into the seat beside her where Korra was sure someone else was sitting just a moment ago.
Once seated, the teen rested her smiling face against her fist, "Did you really think you'd get away that easily?"
Korra rolled her eyes. "From you? I have a better chance sprouting wings and learning to fly." She muttered irritably, "Don't you have some where to be? Like, I don't know… class?"
Asami grinned. "My math teacher loves me, and when I told him I lent my notes to a friend, he was more than happy to let me go toget them. So… Did you do it?"
Korra eyed her with pursed lips, not liking the superior look dancing in her friend's eyes.
"You don't think I did it?" Korra asked rather defensively.
"No, I don't." she said, her grin stretching. "It would explain you going all MIA. Which, by the way, is not fucking cool. Do you know what I went through yesterday? But it's all good- you're going to make it up to me," she leaned forward punctuating each word. "Every. Day. This. Week."
Korra pushed her away with a smile of her own. "Forget that. I did do it so you're going to have to find a different form of entertainment." She met Asami's skeptical look with an even wider grin. "You forget I'm the Queen of…"
"Pranks yes, yes I know. Ok I want proof and details. How are you," She looked at her pointedly "here and alive."
"You really couldn't wait until lunch? I left the 'proof' in my locker."
Asami contemplated for a second. "Okay, it can wait until lunch if you tell me what you're hiding under that scarf."
Korra easily dodged the hand that reached out to take it off. She chuckled and tried to make her voice as convincing as possible. "There's nothing underneath the scarf."
"Then show me." She said with a smile.
Korra rolled her eyes. "I didn't know you liked my neck so much Asami," she shot her a teasing look. "Is there something you want to tell me? You know it's perfectly normal to be curious." She smirked as Asami sputtered.
"What? No! Stop changing the subject!"
"So you are curious." She said with a grin. "Otherwise it wouldn't be a subject." Then, very seriously, she crossed her legs and fully faced her friend. "How long have you been having these urges, Asami? Does Mako know? I would offer to experiment with you but… you know being friends and all. It'd probably be really weird. Besides…"
Asami punched her in shoulder. "You must think you're hilarious." She growled.
Laughing Korra said, "I'm really starting to think I am. Anyway I'm glad your conscience got the best of you yesterday. Maybe you won't condemn me next time I have to take a dare."
Asami made a face. "Deflect, dodge, and change the subject all you want but I'm going to find out sooner, rather than later." She smiled and got up to leave.
Korra frowned, already knowing how right she was.
The Dare~The Dare
"Korra! You're alive!" Bolin grabbed the water bender in a tight hug. He set her back down on the grass and regarded her with a dramatically serious face. He then demanded, "Where were you? I was worried sick! You have no idea the kind of stress I went through!"
Rolling her eyes, Korra sat down and made herself comfortable on the grass. "The stress you went through? Yeah I can't imagine how hard enjoying your weekend must be. Thank the heavens I only had to risk my freedom and life to break into the Chief of Police's place."
"Hey! Don't get sassy with me young lady. All you had to do was answer your phone. And what's this about you being grounded?"
"Yeah, why are you grounded? Did you get caught?" Mako asked biting into a sandwich. Korra was going to answer when she suddenly noticed something. Mako was by himself. Mako was never by himself at lunch. Suddenly, she dodged to the left as fast as a cat, just as Asami jumped out of the bushes behind her with her hand stretched out to rip off the scarf on Korra's neck.
"Ha!" Korra exclaimed triumphantly, springing to her feet.
"Damn it." Asami grumbled as she got to her feet.
"Okay." Bolin said slowly confused by his friend's actions. Asami turned to him and said urgently,
"Don't you find it weird that she's wearing a scarf?" Then she turned to the teen in question. "What's under there, Korra?"
Korra pursed her lips and put some more distance between them.
"Hhmmm." Bolin studied Korra for a moment. "You know, I didn't really think about it. But it is weird."
"What's wrong with you guys? Mako wears a scarf everyday and no one tries to rip it off."
"We're not going to rip it off. We're just curious about why you're wearing it. And I already know what's under Mako's scarf."
She rolled her eyes and sat beside Mako on the grass. "And here I was thinking you guys would want to know if I accomplished the dare or not."
Bolin easily took the bait. "Well did you?" he asked eagerly.
"Yup." Korra said cheerfully.
"So, where's the proof?" Asami asked, not happy with the change of subject. Korra smirked, knowing they were about to be majorly disappointed. She pulled out the coupon and handed it them. Curiosity got the better of Asami as she reached for it. She frowned letting Bolin take it.
"A Cabbage Corp. coupon? How is this proof? I get these all the time in mail."
"Yeah, me too and obviously so does Lin." She frowned as she said, "But I haven't figured out how to prove the kissing thing yet but…"
"So you kissed her?" Asami demanded, eyes bright with anticipation and the disseminationofdetails. Even Mako stopped eating to pay attention. "She must have been asleep. That's the only way you could have gotten away with that." she said in a matter-of-fact voice.
Korra looked away fighting a smile. "Well, like I said I don't know how to prove it yet."
"Don't worry about that. We got it covered." Bolin said excitedly and began taking off his shoes. The water bender eyed him warily.
"Stand up." He said wiggling his bare toes in the soft grass.
"Oh." She said understanding and getting up. "Do I have to take off my shoes too?"
"Nope I can feel you just fine. Okay. So did you Korra of the water tribe kiss Chief Lin Bei Fong?"
Korra rolled her eyes at the theatrics but said. "Yes." None the less and sat back down quickly.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! That's it?" Asami asked?
"What?" she asked and then looked up at the earth bender. "Was I lying?"
"No. Or you did a very good job of it. Which is impossible, you're a terrible liar." He said with a smirk.
"Which is why I know you're hiding something under that scarf." Asami said pointing at Korra.
Korra turned to Mako. "Mako, buddy. I hate to have to be the one to tell you this but I think Asami has the hots for me."
The fire bender chocked on his drink and ended up spraying water everywhere. "What?" he rasped.
"I know, I know." She said putting her hands up. "Seems crazy. But it does explain the need for all those sleep overs and shopping. One time she even…"
Asami kicked her. "Shut up." She said through gritted teeth.
"Ow. That was uncalled for!" Korra laughed gripping her side.
"Just show us your neck so we can get over this!"
Korra just laughed more as she got to her feet and shrugged. She snatched the coupon back before saying, "Cant. I promised my math teacher I'd talk to him during the lunch break. Later." She was gone before they could stop her.
The Dare~The Dare
Korra spent the rest of the day dodging Asami and purposely answering questions as elusively as possible. A part of it was just to mess with them and they made it too easy. But now it was the last class of the day and she had study hall. That's what it was called, but most students just went home early or relaxed for a while if they had another class. UsuallyKorra would be one of those students that left or relaxed but…she decided to study instead today.
She rolled her eyes as she flipped through a text book, not even really seeing the words and pictures onthepages. She was sitting at one of the tables in the school library. And totally not hiding. Nope, she wasn't hiding. She was studying. 'Maybe if I'm careful I can make it to the gates without…'
"There you are!"
'Damn it!'
She turned to Asami who was glaring at her with her fist on her hips.
"Hiding in the library? That's low even for you."
"I'm not hiding." She held up the text book. "I'm studying."
Asami resisted the urge to roll her eyes and sat down beside her.
"How did you find me?" she asked as she went back to flipping through the text book; she didn't even know what subject it was.
"It's the one place I know you wouldn't spend your free period."
"That's not true! I come here all the time."
Asami growled. "Why won't you tell us what happened Saturday night?" she demanded.
"I did tell you." Not looking up from the text book. "I went through her window, kissed her, and then took the coupon."
Asami blinked. There it was again. That grin. Korra was smiling like a mad woman down at her book. It was the third time Asami had seen that same grin today. Every time Korra talked about the dare she ended up with that grin. Asami could only see her side profile, but she could still see how the smile stretched Korra's lips enough to show her canines and how it made her blue eyes…light up and dance.
Korra could feel Asami's intense stare on her but she acknowledge her. She ran out of pages and started flipping through the book backwards.
"Korra…" Asami sounded tired and irritated. "Chemistry cannot be that funny."
Korra didn't even know that she was smiling. She slammed the text book shut and finally turned to her friend. She just couldn't keep it in anymore.
"Okay." She said with excitement bubbling out of her. Her grin got even bigger. "We kissed."
Asami wasn't sure what to do with the sudden change in demeanor or the information.
"So…" she said slowly. "She was awake?"
"Yeah," She looked away sheepishly "I guess I wasn't as stealthy as I thought I could be."
"And you kissed her? Wait, so she kissed you back?" she asked disbelievingly. Asami now was almost as excited as Korra now.
"Yeah." Her smile got impossibly wider.
"What?" Asami exclaimed hitting the other teen in the arm. "You guys kissed?"
She said it so loudly that Korra looked around so to see if they disturbed any one. A few people had turned to look but soon returned back to what they were doing.
"Yeah." She reopened her textbook and started going through it again biting her lip trying to tame the smile.
Asami had a million questions on the tip of her tongue that she was just about to ask but the look on Korra's face and …the way that she was fighting that smile that was taking over her face.
No…
Asami's eyes dropped to the blue scarf.
No …
There's no way.
Faster than lightning her hand shot out and snatched the scarf off before Korra's reflexes could kick in.
"Oh my gosh!" She exclaimed looking at all the hickeys. "What?!" she yelled as she pulled down the collar of Korra's shirt to fully examine the bite mark and Korra let her, sighing.
"I knew it! I mean I didn't know it would be a neck full of fucking love bites and good heavens! Did she try to eat you or something?"
A blush blossomed on Korra's cheeks and she looked away biting her lip even harder. Asami gasped so long and dramatically that the other teen was surprised that all that air could fit into her lungs.
"She ate you out?" demanded with a rush of air. "You guys went all the way? What?"
"Good fucking spirits! Keep it down." Korra muttered, embarrassed as other students shot them glares.
"That smile! Of course! That's the smile of someone who just got laid!" she suddenly stood up.
"Everybody! I have an announcement. My best friend Korra has finally lost her virgi…"
Korra tackled her to the ground and fought to cover her mouth while Asami continued to shout.
"See? It's shit like this that makes me fucking karate chop you in the throat." Korra hissed.
"What? I can't be happy for my friend?" she laughed.
"Ladies!" a librarian came over, completely aghast. "I will not have this kind of behavior in my library!"
Korra quickly got up and grabbed her textbook. "We were just leaving."
The Dare~The Dare
Asami hounded her as soon as they left the library, but Korra had refused to say anything while they were still on campus. …Mostly just to annoy her friend. She decided on the small lake that they sometimes hung out at. Plus it was close to the school.
"Okay. Okay. Details. I want, no need details."
Korra chuckled as she lay on her back while moving her arms and hands, swirling water above her. "I think you're the most dramatic person I've ever met. And I've met a few!"
"Korra! How can you be so relaxed?" she demanded and then leaned over her, blocking the sun. "Details, Korra! Details!"
Korra looked at her blankly and said, "We had sex." And then went back to moving the water. Asami let out a long groan of annoyance and frustration.
"Why?" she pleaded. "Why are you killing me?"
Laughing Korra sat up and bended the water back in to the lake. She turned to her friend.
"okay." She conceded. "What do you want to know?"
Asami inhaled for an impossibly long minute before asking, "Was it good?"
Korra waited a moment expecting her to ask more but when she didn't she turned to the lake watching the suns light reflect off the rippling surface. She shook her head. "No."
"What?" She leaned back, disappointed. "I was sure with that grin; she made you see stars or something."
Korra threw her head back and laughed. "It wasn't good." She said looking at her friend. "It was….fuck." she rubbed at her face with her hands. "There aren't even words!"
"So it was good?" her smile back in place.
Korra shot her a mock glare "I just said it wasn't good. That's such a terrible way to describe it. It was…." She was at a loss for words; each one shecame up with seemed more insignificant than the last. "It was beyond…..wow. Asami, I really don't know how to describe it." She said with that grin again.
"Okay, I'm officially naming that smile Lin's Grin." She tapped her chin thinking. "No… The Bei Fong Grin? Orgasm courtesy of Lin induced grin?" she dodged a stream of water Korra aimed at her. "Mmmm maybe just Lin's smile. Yeah. I think I like that one better."
Korra rolled her eyes.
"So! Details! What happened? Exactly!"
"I went in through the window, looked around then went into Lin's room and had sex." She finished with a smile, knowing she was irritating the other teen.
She groaned in irritation. "You're not going to tell me? Really? And I thought we were friends." She pouted.
"We are. And that pout only works on Mako."
"Oh! That reminds me. Thanks for telling him that nonsense! Spirits only know why on earth he even believed you."
"Because I'm gorgeous and it's obvious you're attracted to me."
"Shut up. Do you know what he said to me earlier?"
"No, but I bet you're going to tell me."
"He wants to have a threesome." She said with disgust. Korra rolled around in the grass laughing so hard she her sides hurt.
Wiping tears from her eyes she said, "That is… too funny." She chuckled again. She sobered up instantly as a thought crossed her mind. "Not with me though, right?"
Asami shot her an annoyed look. "How is that even funny? And no, not with you" she made a face. "You know that…" She stopped short. "Damn it! Korra you did it again! I want details! And stop changing the subject before I hurt you."
Sighing she said, "Fine, what do you want to know?"
Grinning Asami dove right in. "So she just let you kiss her and she was all like…?" she trailed off questioning.
The grin that Asami dubbed 'Lin's Smile' stretched over Korra's face. "Not at first."
"What does that mean?" she demanded.
"I mean I kissed her but she didn't kiss me back… at first."
"So what you had to convince her?"
Korra laughed. "No, I just kept kissing her."
"And then she kissed you back?"
"Yeah." She turned away, still smiling. "She's a really good kisser." She looked back at her friend. "Like….a really, really good kisser."
Asami squealed and shook the other teen's shoulders. "I can't believe this!" she said with every shake.
Feeling like a rag doll, Korra forced herself out of Asami's death grip.
"Okay. You can say it now." Asami said crossing her arms and smirking at her friend.
"Say what?"
"Thank you. And that I'm the greatest friend in the entire world."
"You've lost your mind." Korra said laying back down.
"What? Come on if it wasn't for my awesome dare you wouldn't have had the greatest night of your life."
Korra covered her face with her hands, the realization finally dawning on her. Everything in her wanted to deny it, but it was true. And damn, her pride was protesting at the very thought of thanking Asami. But the idea of Saturday night never happening… or this morning….
Damn it.
"Thank you. You are the greatest friend in the world." She said after she sat back up to face her friend.
Asami smiled, not a superior smile but a warm one. "You're welcome." And then she added as an afterthought, "Oh! And that I was right."
"Right about what?"
"In the mall? I told you she had pent up feelings for you." This time her smile was a little smug.
Damn it.
"… You were right."
Asami grinned. "I was. So! Was it awkward afterward?"
Korra sighed falling back on the grass and thought about it. "No." she said slightly surprised because she didn't even think about it before. "It wasn't…. it was actually kind of nice. Okay, really nice."
Asami groaned and gritted her teeth barely containing herself. "Did you tell her you were a virgin? How many times did she get you off? What did she say when you guys finished? Have you talked since then? What are you guys now? Did you two…"
"Okay! Okay! Stop!" she said, chuckling but embarrassed. "I can't believe you're even asking me all that." she muttered before saying, "yeah I told her…" she frowned. Korra wasn'treally sure how to describe Lin's reaction about that. "She looked kind of hurt that I didn't tell her before we… you know."
Asami gasped, cutting her off. "She was? What kind of hurt?"
"I don't know how many different kinds of hurt are there?" she asked confused.
"Okay, was she angry hurt or was she sad kind of hurt? Or confused hurt, which was it?"
"What difference does it make?" She didn't understand her friend at all.
"Just answer the question."
"Okay, sad."
"Oh my. Okay, okay! Finish answering!"
Korra decided to ignore how weird her friend was. "Alright where was I…?"
"How many times did she get you off? What did she say when you guys finished? Have you talked since then? What are you guys now?" she recalled in rapid fire.
"Oh my gosh!" Asami exclaimed. "Look at that blush!"
"Shut up." Her cheeks were getting redder by the second. "You actually want me to answer all that?"
"Yes!" Asami nearly shouted.
"Fine." She grumbled reluctantly, her face felt like it was on fire. "Twice." She ignored Asami's squeal. "Um… we talked about me being a virgin and then the dare."
"The dare? What did she say about you being a virgin? What did she say about the dare? What…"
"Okay! Stop! Do you want me to answer or not?"
"Alright, alright!"
"Okay, she said she would have been gentler." She said, looking sky ward as she recalled what was said. "And she made me promise not to do stupid dares anymore."
She looked at Asami expecting her to be all crazy, but she was staring at her with her eyes dancing and a wide smile.
"What?" Korra questioned.
"She said she would've been gentler?" she grabbed Korra's shoulders and started shaking her again. "That is so fucking cute! I knew she had feelings for you!"
"Asami….you're….gonna break….my neck."
She dumped her onto the grass. "Have you guys talked since then? That's what you were doing all day yesterday, wasn't it? You were doing the Chief of Police so hard that you couldn't even answer your phone."
Korra laughed. "I wish!"
"So what are you guys now?" she demanded.
Korra tried to fight the smile but it was useless. "Well," she said looking over the lake. "We're together now."
Asami made a noise of excitement, followed by one of annoyance. "Are you going to swear me to secrecy? I don't think I can't keep this from Mako. And Mako can't keep anything from Bolin."
The other teen rubbed at her face. "For now can you keep it to yourself? I should talk Lin first about all that." And then her expression fell. Asami saw her drastic change in expression.
"Hey," she said concerned. "What's wrong?"
Korra sighed and then fully faced her friend. "Asami, I'm going to mess this up." She made a helpless gesture with her hands, genuine worry on her face.
"Well, maybe with that attitude."
"I'm being serious." She covered her face. "She's going to see that I'm just some screw up kid that's completely infatuated with her." Korra's anxiety was bleeding through her voice.
Asami moved closer to her distressed friend and put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "You're not some screw up kid."
Korra shot her an upset look.
"Okay, at the very least you're not just a kid that likes to get in trouble. Look… that's probably something she's already noticed anyway." She said with an amused smile. Korra gave her another angry look. "Even if she somehow completely missed this fact and someday has an epiphany, it's not going to matter."
Korra removed her hands and eyed Asami's earnest expression. She sighed. "This morning she kept saying all these reasons why I wouldn't want to be with her." she shook her head. "Can you believe that?"
"Yes, I can. Look, stop worrying about stuff that hasn't and probably won't even happen. You should be happy and celebrating. You're dating the Chief!"
"Yeah," she said a smile coming back. "You're right."
The Dare~The Dare
The giant pile of homework sat ignored on her desk. Pema came up earlier and said dinner would be ready soon. Asami had somehow thought of more questions to ask and she was demanding Korra call as soon as possible.
But all this was so far in the back of her mind that it might as well not even exist. Instead she was laying in bed with an arm under her head the other hand playing with her phone. She looked at display again. It showed Lin's number highlighted.
Korra bit her lip. She was going to see her tomorrow morning. And Lin was probably busy, anyway. A minute passed …and then another. She gritted her teeth irritated by her own behavior. She finally opened a new text message just as there was a knock on the door.
"Korra!" it sounded like Ikki. "Dinners ready!"
"Yeah, I'll be down in a second!" she called back.
She inhaled deeply, fighting her nerves as she looked at the blank screen. She debated what to type for a moment. She started several times but deleted them all. Finally, she decided.
I miss you. Can't wait for tomorrow
She pressed send before she could convince herself that it was too corny. She instantly regretted it. 'I can't believe I sent that!'
Sitting up, she rubbed her face 'too late now,' she thought. She made a point of leaving the phone on the bed when she left to eat. The entire time her mind fretted over whether or not Lin read the text. Or if she replied. Or worse, what if she didn't reply? She tried to distract herself by getting immersed in the dinner time conversation. But she barely heard a word that was said. Luckily no one noticed or questioned her distracted behavior.
Back in her room Korra made a bee line to her desk ignoring her phone and tried to focus on getting some homework done. After an hour and five out of twenty equations done, she couldn't take it anymore. She quickly got ready for sleep and collapsed on the mattress. She bit her lip before reaching for the cell. She was disheartened to find the only text she got was from Asami. She flopped back on bed surprised by how disappointed she was.
"What is wrong with me?" she muttered to herself.
She was surprised to find herself nodding off. Only a few minutes later, when her phone vibrated she woke out of her light sleep. She was going to ignore it and go back to sleep, thinking it was Asami again. But the chance that it might be Lin was too much to resist. She grabbed the phone.
I miss you too.
Korra was sure she fell asleep smiling.
