AN: Remember when I used to update weekly? Yeah that was nice.
Anyways, two orders of business: Maryland is not cosplaying this chapter and if I don't reply to your review please tell me my inbox gets crowded sometimes with other stuff.
dragonlover721, I believe that you were the one to correctly guess that Maryland was cosplaying Lelouch from Code Geass and I hope this chapter has enough Mass sass for you.
An Old Fashion Tea Party
Chapter 4:
Virginia crossed her arms and leaned on the spaceships pale wall. "How are we going to go about this?"
"Shouldn't we decide what we're going to do before how to do it," Connecticut asked.
Massachusetts rolled his eyes. "Oh come on. We all know what we're going to do."
Connecticut shot an annoyed look at the commonwealth "Don't get a big head. We should at least put some thought into doing something more original. This has already been twice."
"Why mess with a classic?"
"That's enough. We need to be planning right now," Delaware intervened.
The room was quiet for a moment.
New Hampshire sighed and brushed dirty blonde bangs out of her eyes. "I hate to be a wet blanket but do we even have enough tea on this ship to pull off another party?"
Rhode Island's hand shot up into the air. "Oh, can I go check?" Without waiting for an answer she bounced over to the door.
"Ask Nevada or New Mexico for help," Virginia yelled after her. She turned back to the remaining 13. "We'll make a pit stop if we don't have it. But we still need to plan everything else."
"I doubt we have any face paint," Connecticut said.
Delaware nodded in agreement. "Wouldn't that be offensive today anyways?"
"Not to mention pointless. I don't know about you but I don't want England to be awake for any of this."
South Carolina grinned, "I don't know it could be fun."
"Let's just go as is," Pennsylvania suggested.
New York frowned. "So we're just going to quietly dump some tea in the nearest body of water to England's house and leave. I thought we'd be doing something better. I mean we stole a spaceship for this and we have 37 states looking up to us."
"Calm down Mr. Broadway we're not done yet. I have an idea." Maryland turned toward the red haired girl beside her. "Georgia you brought your purse didn't you?"
"Of course."
"And you have some makeup in there right?"
Georgia's blue eyes lit up, highlighting the green specks inside them. "Oh you are a devil Maryland."
"OK is anyone else a little lost?"
Georgia flipped her pony tail over her shoulder. "We might not be getting dressed up for this occasion but who says England won't be."
The 12 states present smiled in maniacal glee.
North Carolina giggled. "Why not take it a step further and bring England to the party?"
"I thought we didn't want him to wake up and lay siege," Delaware said.
"But this ship has to have an inflatable boat or something in case of a crash landing right," New Hampshire added.
Just then Rhode Island burst back into the room. "Alright I checked the food supplies. We don't have any tea but we do have plenty of coffee and we have to have an ice cream party later."
Massachusetts's grin widened. "That'll do."
Gathered around the back door to an old country house the female members of The 13, with the exception of Virginia, collectively held their breath as North Carolina picked the lock.
With a thumbs up and grin thrown over her shoulder North Carolina led them inside. The girls formed a line behind her with Pennsylvania taking the rear.
"Oh my gosh, we just broke in," New Jersey said breathlessly.
New Hampshire looked at her in disbelief and a bit of amusement. "Yeah we were there for that part."
The Garden State scrunched up her nose. She was used to sass from New York but did she have to get it from everyone else, and even before she finished her thought. "We're officially criminals now."
Connecticut glanced back. "I believe we were when we conspired to and carried out stealing the spaceship from a secret government facility."
New Jersey snorted. "We're just borrowing it that's hardly a crime."
"We didn't exactly ask permission. And did you miss the part in Nevada's story where they knocked out the guards? I think any judge would agree that's assault."
"Of course I didn't miss it. I really appreciated her creative use of jump rope. And it still didn't count."
"I'm worried about you."
New Hampshire smirked. "If you're just thinking that you clearly don't remember the revolution when she snuck into-"
Pennsylvania's hand gently smacked the back of New Hampshire's head. "Is it really the time to be having this conversation or do you want to be caught?"
The three girls obeyed their older sister's command to be quiet.
The house's interior was beautiful, not that the outside hadn't also been. It was furnished with Victorian era furniture but had many objects that were older although none of the girls could place anything more than medevilish. But it didn't lack any modern day comforts.
Walking by the couch Georgia paused. "Look at that," she said pointing to one of the sofa's pillows. "That embroidery is quite divine and the trim, it has to be hand sown."
New Jersey peered around her shoulder. "Oh it is pretty. I love how the wings are done on that blue fairy."
Maryland broke out of the line and went to retrieve the little pillow. She ran her fingers over the fairy's lithe form. "It must have taken hours to get these designs right."
"Ok, the country's got the magic touch with fabric. Can we stop staring at this stuff and move on. I want to see if he's got any swords left around from his pirate days," North Carolina interrupted.
Rhode Island's lips slipped into a pout. "Am I really the only one on task here?" Pennsylvania's annoyed look was ignored. "That's kind of sad."
"I am perfectly on task. I just think pirates are really cool." Carolina began going up the nearby stairs. "Besides it's not like I'd just leave the group and wander about, that's just plain stupid."
Back on task the girls sneaked up the stairs and down a hallway. They carefully peaked into each room they passed looking for their target.
The fourth door down they found him.
The blonde nation was laying on his back sleeping peacefully clueless to the events about to occur.
The girls wasted no words between them. They didn't know how deep of a sleeper the country was but they were praying that he could sleep through this.
Georgia knelt by the bedside and softly placed her elbows onto the smooth sheets. She held out her hand signaling North Carolina to retrieve some makeup from the bag hanging on her shoulder. Pulling on a shiny tube of lipstick she surrendered it to Georgia. Tying a white embroidered handkerchief around her mouth to soften her breath on the nation's face the southern state began her delicate task.
Across the room Pennsylvania examined a set of double doors that led out to a small balcony. She pulled out a small tape recorder and measured them. By the time she was done Connecticut was by her side with her own measurement of the bed's width. Holding out their measuring tape they compared their results. The states nodded. It would be a tight fit but with all of them working together they could do it.
New York peered into the darkening waters of their chosen pond. It was the closest they could find to England's home but was far enough away that the nation would have a rather long and embarrassing walk home. "Nothing was living in this pond right?"
South Carolina looked up from his task of stirring the coffee mix into the pond with an oar they found with the inflatable escape boat. He glanced down at the water and then at their default leader for this trip. Massachusetts in turn raised an eyebrow. "It didn't occur to you to ask beforehand."
"I'd assumed you had checked."
"You shouldn't assume anything but yeah do you think Mr. Natural would have let us do this to a living lake?"
"Well, it's nice that one of our siblings cares about the planet."
"And that it isn't you."
"You know you're acting like a tyrant."
Massachusetts shrugged and poured another can of coffee into the pond.
Further up the shore Delaware stood and glared at his brothers. "More importantly why am I the only one doing this?"
"Luck of the draw," New York and Mass answered in tamdum.
"We didn't do any drawings."
"You were very unlucky," New York answered.
Massachusetts smirked, "Kind of like you and love, right Yorkie." New York quickly turned red and began to sputter.
"I can't believe we didn't have an electrical pump in the spaceship," Delaware sighed and began to pump up the inflatable escape boat they had brought with them.
South Carolina began watching the sky since New York's brain had seemed to have stopped functioning. On the horizon a faint glimmer appeared. He tossed down his oar and made a sloppy salute at the sky. "Hark! His majesty approaches."
The space ship approached the boys flying low to the ground to avoid attention. It landed surprisingly softly before them. The hatch on the ships side opened and boarding plank slide out with only a faint whisper of metal on metal noise. The female members, with the exception of Virginia, of the 13 came out carrying England on a stretcher.
"Where's Ginny," Delaware whispered as they approached him.
Connecticut answered him. "Keeping noise and light levels down on board. We can't fail when we're this close."
"Oh God, he looks like a drag queen," New York said.
"Please, no self-respecting drag queen would allow those eyebrows to exist," Massachusetts replied.
Georgia frowned at them both. "I would like to see you do any better in the conditions I had to work in. More importantly shouldn't we be sending him off now."
With brief smiles the states began the final phase of their task. The girls lifted the sleeping nation up and the boys slid the inflatable boat underneath. The nations was slowly lowered down on to it stretcher and all. Then working as one the group carried their bundle to the water's edge. At this point some of the states let go so they could stay dry and not make as many splashes.
Through the whole event England only mumbled a few times.
Once all were back on shore the states took a moment to appreciate their work.
"Should we do a musical send off. I have a harmonica," Massachusetts suggested.
"Nah, maybe if it was his funeral pyre," Carolina said.
"We could set it on fire," her southern brother suggested.
Delaware sighed, "We'd have to call an ambulance and the police if we did that. We don't want anyone getting hurt."
"It would put an end to our game too," New Jersey added.
AN: Yes they did take England's bed and you'll here more about it later.
Notes:
The Boston Tea Party took place on December 16, 1773. During which the Sons of Liberty threw three ship loads of tea into the Boston Harbor in protest of the Tea Act and "taxation without representation." A repeat performance took place on March 7, 1774 but it was less affective (and I believe it was the towns people that did it). This act helped to unite the British against the colonies struggle and encouraged further dramatic protests.
PA was the second state to ratify the constitution so officially she's the oldest female state, Delaware was the first. Even though she was not the first to be colonized.
Omake:
The sheets were smooth and soft on England's bed and his breath was warm on Georgia's fingers. She couldn't see very well and she supposed that was why the atmosphere was so peaceful. It reminded her of being little and staying with her siblings in their small wooden cabin.
Georgia's arm jerked nearly stabbing England's eye with the eyeliner. She turned as quick as she could without slapping the sleeping nation with her hair. Carolina raised her eyebrows in question.
Georgia pursed her lips and leaned back. She ran her other hand over her elbow and felt for a mark. Something had pinched her, she was sure of that, but there wasn't anything on the sheets that could have caused any pain. Georgia slowly began to turn back.
A glimmer in the air stopped her.
She hadn't known England had littler friends. Her lips twitched into a grudging smile and she pulled out a small iron charm Louisiana had made for her.
She handed the eyeliner back to Carolina and with only a tiny question in her eyes Carolina handed her a bright glittering yellow eye shadow in return. Back to work then.
