Playing his violin, Sabo ignored both arguing kids next to him. Ron and Law didn't get along at all for a reason that annoyed the blond boy.
'I know it is because of me, but that doesn't make me feel happy. I wish Luffy was here' thought Sabo grumpily as he missed a note and stopped.
"No, you are stupid" accused Law.
"I am not!" defended Ron.
"Guy STOP!" interrupted Sabo and both boys turned to him.
"He started it"
"He started it" pointing to each other, both boys glared at each other. The blond sighed and looked at his other companions in disapproval.
"Ok, I don't care who started it, but make up now. And stop arguing all the time"
'I swear, it is worse than Ace and Luffy' thought Sabo, but then remembered how evil his elder brother could be and decided to retreat his statement.
'At least Law didn't try to kill Ron' Sabo began to laugh with himself at the memory of his dear brothers as warmth and longing seized his heart. Law and Ron both looked at him weirdly but decided not to comment at his weird actions.
"you got everything?" asked Dragon and both teens tried to remember what they brought with them. Sabo and Law were assigned a new mission where they were supposed to meet with an old man in a bar and receive a map of the mines, which they planned to attack from him. Then they were to regroup with the rest of the army and attack the mines, free the slaves and capture the officers there.
"Yes" replied Sabo while Law lowered his hoodie. They both wore winter jackets and hoodies under them. The Island was a winter island, so the weather was freezing. Getting off the Ship both boys made their way to village and located the bar. There was still time left till the meeting, so both boys headed to the forest to pass the time.
Arriving at a clearing Sabo ran to a pile of snow and started to create a snow man. Law looked at his friend in amusement and followed his example.
Both boys were playing in the snow when they heard a gunshot. Racing to the place where the sound came from, they found a group of men with guns, standing over a dead polar bear's body.
A baby polar bear was trashing in the hands of one man while the rest of the men were busy with poking the older bear's body with their guns. Law couldn't stomach what the men were doing, so he jumped and hit the man who was holding the baby bear. Looking at his friend, Sabo sighed and joined the fight. They managed to beat up the men, took their weapons away from them and watched them flee.
"Heh, what cowards" said Sabo then turned to Law, who was looking at the dead polar bear with sadness.
"Law?" asked Sabo getting closer to the older teen.
"Let's bury him" said Law and Sabo nodded, he felt pain clutch his heart at the look in Law's eyes.
Carrying the body of the polar bear, they buried it in a far place and took the baby polar bear with them to treat its wounds. The animal didn't like them at first, but after having his wounds being treated and being feed (some chestnuts that Sabo had in his pocket), he began to follow them.
Both boys headed to the bar late since they took time with the burial, and the old man wasn't pleased. Getting the map, they sat in the further corner of the bar and ordered hot milk, the bartender gave them a look but gave them their drinks, when they asked for a bowl the bartender seemed that he wanted to object, but then decided not to, as he received the glare Law shot at him. Sabo looked at the maps and Law was busy feeding the baby polar bear.
"That is it, I will take him with me" blurted Law suddenly and Sabo looked from the maps at his friend.
"Ok, but make sure you don't let anyone sees him till we tell Dragon" Law frowned.
"Do you think….. Dragon will let me keep him?" asked Law unsure in a quit tune that made Sabo look up from the map at him with wonder.
'When he is unsure, he sure becomes cute' thought the revolutionary.
"Why not?"
"Because he is a bear? He might hurt the crew when he grows" explained the boy looking at the animal who was licking his feet which tickled him and he stiffened a chuckle.
"He is still a baby, and you can train him not to hurt anyone"
"He is not a pet"
"Never said so"
"Oh" said Law then smiled, Sabo smiled too and then an Idea hit him.
"Let's call him Bepo!" Law looked at Sabo then turned to look at the Alcohol bottles on the cabin.
"A rum brand?"
"Not only that! But this place is called Bepo bar, so we can call him Bepo to honor the day we met him in this place" explained the boy with a grin and Law smiled.
"Fine"
"Ok, but we should get going now, it is time to meet with the others" getting up, both boys took their things and Law carried the polar bear in his arms.
They headed to a cabin in the middle of the forest to meet the army.
Reaching the cabin the boys knocked three times at the door and waited, a man opened the door and Sabo said the password, the man nodded to him and let them enter. Inside there they found fifteen men only.
"Where are the rest?" asked Sabo alarmed and the man who opened the door glared at him.
"They are dead" answered the same man making the boy swallow, and look down. Law didn't like the way the man treated his friend, but he stayed silent as to not cause any problem, he wanted to be useful so Dragon would allow him to keep Bepo.
"Follow me" said the man and both boys followed him to the back room. There the men and Sabo began to form a plan to attack the base while Law listened. The teen noticed how the men refused to listen to anything the blond said, and proceeded with their stupid ideas. Law couldn't take more of their insolence as anger raised in him, he spoke.
"The first step of failure is when the subordinates fail to listen to their superior" said Law in a monotone voice and all the men turned to him.
"Why you!"
"What the?!"
"Stop!" shouted the man who appeared to be their leader to his angry men and turned to look at Law.
"You are saying that we are going to die if we don't follow his plan" asked the man, pointing his finger at Sabo.
"No, bu-"
"Then we are going to live?"
"I don't kn-"
"You are not God; don't try to pretend you know what will happen" said the man with a sneer and Law felt his blood boil at the look he was giving him.
'Who does he think he is?' thought the angry black haired teen.
"I never sa-"
"Law didn't say that! You guys need to listen more to what others are trying to tell you" cut in Sabo who got angry at the men for insulting Law.
The men looked at Sabo who glared at each one of them, he didn't mind their treatment from before, but he couldn't forgiver anyone who was insulting his friends.
"Law was trying to warn you, he wasn't trying to insult you. You don't trust me because of my age, but you are the ones who don't know anything! Law isn't the one playing God, it is you people! Just because we look young, you already assumed that we don't know anything about our work. You came to the conclusion of us being inexperienced on your own, so don't accuse others of what you did" when Sabo finished, the men looked at the ground ashamed, and the leader approached Law.
"I apologize, we lost our friends because of our stupidity, and we took our frustration on you guys. We all apologize" Law nodded to the man and the turned to Sabo who was looking at the maps again.
Law felt happy that his friend defended him, but embarrassed that he couldn't do it himself. He witnessed how mature Sabo acted when it was needed and that made his respect and admiration towards his friend grow, he hugged the bear in his arms and closed his eyes.
'You are nothing but a trash, a slave isn't worth anything'
"Law" Sabo's voce brought the teen out of his memory and he saw Sabo looking at him with worry in his baby blue eyes. Law walked to him and he turned back to the map in his head.
"Here look at this entrance, I want you and…"Sabo looked up and pointed at one of the men "him, to sneak to it and enter form there. It is unused and old, and probably will only fit two people" Law nodded to the blond, but wasn't happy about the role he was given. He knew that Sabo wanted him to get away from the dangerous part, so he choose to give him the safest part in the plan.
"How do you know that?" asked a man.
"Because I have been to mines similar to this one. Law and?"
"Jack"
"Jack, your role is the most important one. You will have to look for the prison's key and free the slaves. Then search for their commander and capture him; the rest of us will attack and create a distraction to busy the guards and the officers there. With this small number, and the hostages they have, this is the only plan will work, I will pray for your safety and everyone should return to this base alive at the end, got that!"
""Yes" said Jack.
"Yeah!" the men shouted in eagerness, while Law felt an ice brick fall on his heart, he had a feeling that something will go wrong.
Law and Jack sneaked past the rubbles to the hidden door, there they saw it was locked with some stones and broken woods. Law and his companion began to move the wood and stones from the way and make space to pass. Clearing the entrance took thirty minutes and both males entered late into the door.
"It is raining outside" said a voice and both males hid in behind the nearest boxes. Then they listened to the voices speaking.
"I know, that is the reason for our sudden break right? Don't jinx it"
"I am not"
"Yes you are"
"Fine whatever, I am going to change"
"Wait!" hearing their footsteps disappear, the revolutionaries ran through the tunnel and headed to the cells where they locked the slaves' in. Reaching the basement Law stopped.
Turning to look at the boy Jack's eyes widened, the boy was shaking, his eyes wide full of fear, and he began to mumble some low voiced words. Jack hurried to silence him before he starts to scream and notify the guards.
"No, Stop! No, no, help, Sab-" Law fell unconscious due the hit he received on the back of his neck from the older man, who didn't manage to shut him. Jack didn't know that what happened, but fortunate (or unfortunate) because now he had to carry the weight of the other teen while continuing the mission in silence.
Reaching the underground tunnel, Jack laid the boy down and headed to free the slaves, he couldn't waste more time since they were already late. Looking at the teen he felt worry eat at his heart, the boy looked so small lying there unconscious, he reminded him of his descended brother.
Jack showed the slaves the way out and carried the teen on his back to continue his search for the commander in charge. Jack couldn't leave the boy with the slaves, since he wasn't sure that they won't harm him.
Reaching the upper part of the mine, Jack saw that the attack had started.
Checking on his Nakama, he saw that Sabo wasn't among them. Feeling a bad thing has happened to the young revolutionary commander, Jack was glad that the black haired teen was unconscious. He put the boy in a barrel and went on to find his target, praying that no one else finds the boy before he returns.
Opening his eyes, Law was greeted with the sight of Ivankov who screamed something and went. Law didn't make anything out of the voices he heard, he saw faces come hover over him and heard noises but he closed his eyes and welcomed the darkness again.
Law woke up later that day and noticed that he was in the infirmary. Getting out of bed he asked for Sabo. Ivankov didn't answer him and told him to follow him. Law did that, as he felt dread steal in him. Reaching their shared room, Law entered and found the blond on the bed bandaged from his toes till his head, which made him look like a mummy.
"No one died on the mission, bat Sabo sustained lots of injuries- dearo. The old man in command told us he saved the men's lives ho!" said Ivankov from outside the room. Law shook his head and turned to Ivankov.
"Bring me my equipment's, I will look at him myself" looking at the determined boy in front of him, Ivankov nodded and went to bring the equipment's.
'I will give you a big lecture when you wake up .idiot, and I will make you apologize and promise me to never do it again' thought Law as he looked at the pale boy in front of him.
