A/N: This scene takes place after Anna, Kristoff, Sven and Olaf have left and Marshmallow has been created.

The sight of the blood red icicles sprouting from every break only made them multiply faster.

"Conceal, don't feel," Elsa pushed her hair back, continuing to pace. She could not endure the truth – this was not the way things were supposed to end. If she couldn't hinder it now, she could never save Arendelle... or Anna. Her hands tightened into fists and she grimaced, her eyes tightening at the corners, with a sting sharp as ice.

The sound of approaching footsteps frightened her at first, but she was relieved to hear Polaris darting up the back staircase. His voice travelled ahead of him.

"Elsa, are you alright? I was putting away the picks when there was a horrible sound and the ceiling..." He trailed away once he topped the last stair, and he stared around at the room in confusion.

"Queen Elsa," He made no attempt to bow but instead moved to her side swiftly, his boots creating thick crunches on the floor as snow frothed and left a layer of frost beneath his feet. He hesitated when the cracking of ice tore through the air, and he looked around with a tinge of fear.

"No," Her voice weakened from her determined self-persuading. "If you come any closer, I'll hurt you."

Polaris allowed a disheartened look to cross the glimmers of his eyes and he hesitated. It passed immediately. He stepped softly, closer to her until his hand reached out to touch her narrow shoulder.

"I'll take my chances," He smiled. Elsa looked up at him and let her face flutter into an appreciative smirk. The gloom around her lifted momentarily until her eyes fell to the floor again, where she could see her own reflection staring back.

"Besides," He said, sounding amused, "You could just fix me up again anyway."

Elsa watched her reflection and slowly, the light returned to the room. The shadows shrank away and the menacing spikes curled back. Elsa could properly see herself now, but Polaris' reflection was distorted to the point where he didn't look like a man at all. Elsa exhaled gradually, letting her hands lower.

"Who was here? Who scared you?" Polaris put an arm around her and Elsa could feel the crisp ice of his jacket against her skin. It sent shivers, and she shook her head in response.

"N-No one, I just – " Elsa struggled and sighed, "It was my sister – but everything is okay."

She tilted her head up again to see Polaris' reaction, which she doubted would look fooled.

"Elsa, you don't have to hide anything from me," Polaris was not one for showing an abundance of emotion but his voice persuaded her otherwise. She felt her face tense up and he took both of her hands delicately.

Despite the tightening crack of ice pushing through Polaris' hands, he looked Elsa in the eyes. "Tell me. You have to leave, don't you?"

Elsa pressed her lips together and tried to let go of his hands, she could see blades of ice pushing through his fingers. No blood was there, but Elsa was afraid it was hurting him.

"No, I won't leave, I belong here – with you, and ice and snow," Elsa pushed all thoughts away of Arendelle. "I can't do anything anyway. I was born with the power, so it's a part of who I am whether I like it or not. There's nothing that can stop me from being a monster."

Polaris looked appalled, "Monster? Who ever called you a monster? Your sister?"

"No, she would never," Elsa became frightened by her own words, "She came to help... a-and I shut her out."

Polaris let go of her hands and picked out the icicles that poked out from his fingers before taking her hands politely and holding them together in his own.. "You should go. Prove to them who you really are. Prove to them you're the girl I see before me."

Elsa winced "I can't just leave all this behind, I can't leave you." She found herself staring at the floor in misery.

"Elsa, I know that ever since you left Arendelle, you have wanted to go back." Polaris looked confident, like he had been expecting her departure more than she had.

Elsa lifted her head up to look at him. "What do you mean? That's not true-"

"The Pegasus, of course, is a symbol of freedom. But it's also a symbol of spring. The doves are symbols of peace. But they're symbols of family, too. Deep down, you know you need to go."

Elsa thought of how the release of her power had been almost involuntary.

"I miss my sister," She breathed finally. "If only I had opened the door..."

Polaris brushed back a tear that slipped from the corner of her eye. "She's the only friend I'll ever have."

Polaris paused then began to lead Elsa out the room, towards the back staircase as she quickly composed herself. "I love you, Elsa. But love is putting someone else's needs above your own. Which is why I'm going to let you go, and it's why you're going to save Arendelle. It sounds like a beautiful place. No wonder you miss it."

Polaris pushed open the back door and Elsa felt her eyes adjust to the grey evening. The Pegasus upturned its head as they entered the garden, and the doves peeped in glee.

"Let's make an agreement," Polaris announced.

"What are you offering?" Elsa looped her arm through his to show her willingness. A few simple gestures should persuade her peace of mind. They walked forward together and Elsa held out her arm carefully and let a dove perch on the curve of her wrist as Polaris continued.

"I propose," Polaris began in a grand manner that made Elsa giggle, "That you Queen Elsa..."

"Me?"

"Return to your fair kingdom..."

"Arendelle..."

"And thaw the winter."

Elsa frowned in confusion. "But Polaris, I don't know how."

"Who are you trying to convince?"

"I don't want to convince anyone that I can't do it."

"Exactly," Polaris looked triumphant. "Now the second part of my deal..."

"Oh?"

"I will take your creations under my wing – well, under Pegasus' wings – and we shall travel further into the mountains."

"You're not staying at the ice palace?" Elsa felt her voice becoming desperate. The idea of returning to Arendelle suddenly sounded like an even worse idea if she was to do it alone.

"It's not much of palace when you're not there," Polaris gave a smile to enchant. Elsa had never noticed before, but he gave off the slightest of glows. She became to realise he was only leaving because if he didn't, there was no way she was just going to walk away.

"Come on, m'lady," Polaris beckoned for the Pegasus and it regally stepped towards him. He patted its broad neck and it lowered.

"I can't believe I'm just letting you go," Elsa held his hands as he boarded the Pegasus' back with ease. He did not look as elegant as Elsa had on the creature, but he looked stronger, more powerful – like he belonged there.

"They need you, Elsa," Polaris' voice was firm, but he squeezed her hands at the same time.

"But I'll miss you," Elsa felt her voice waver in the thin air and the Pegasus used its wing to push her into its side more in comfort. The clouds above them deepened and became a darker powdery grey. Elsa frowned at them and sighed.

"We're not going anywhere," Polaris brought her attention back to him, "Look up at the sky every night towards the North Mountain... you'll see us, I'm sure."

Elsa nodded. Polaris looked like he was about to take off until he remembered something.

"Oh! And this," From his pocket he produced something that sparkled like fresh snow and pure ice. It was only until he let his fingers reveal it that she saw what it was.

A silvery necklace lay across his palms. It was ornate yet simple, with sharp-cut encrusted blue ice that appeared pearly in the greying air. It was exceptionally made, and Elsa's eyes widened.

"Polaris, wherever did you find this?"

"I made it," Polaris looked tense from her reaction. "I wanted to try and make the wonderful things you create, Queen Elsa."

"It's beautiful," Elsa breathed, and Polaris relaxed.

"I surprised myself. Did I surprise you?"

"You did," She admired the necklace and remembered their last conversation. "Very original."

"Let me..." He needed have said no more, and Elsa turned away so he could fasten it around her neck. She turned and he drew in breath at the radiance that shone from her.

"A necklace fit for a Queen."

Elsa felt the wind pick up ever so slightly, sifting her hair in front of her face. Polaris pushed it back and smiled. Elsa remembered how she had removed his spirit from her heart, and began to believe he really was a part of her. Without a second doubt, she stood up taller and kissed him on his cheek. His skin felt smooth and crisp and it had made her lips tingle. On connection, a light flashed across his face, and a tiny snowflake froze over where she had kissed him. Ice had wounded his hands again, but he did not flinch. His expression when she pulled away was not as startled as she had expected him to look, but he seemed composed and delighted. He touched his cheek in disbelief then swiftly leaned down and embraced her kindly, brushing his hand down the back of head the way he always did.

"Goodbye, Polaris," Elsa whispered.

Polaris let go of her after a pause, nodded gracefully, and the Pegasus rose. He gave a haunting whistle and the doves burst out from the ice tree like a flame had been lit. The dule swirled restlessly in the air like snowflakes caught in the wind, and the Pegasus began to beat its wings gently. Their hands still joined, Elsa did not let go until Polaris was high enough for their hands to slip away from one another. The Pegasus suddenly belted upwards in an upsurge of speed, the doves twittering behind, and the last Elsa saw of Polaris and her companions were their glimmer as the light bounced through them in the greying sky. Their orb of radiance slowed at the tip of the North Mountain. Elsa felt the breath rush out of her.

The North Star.

A huge bellow suddenly rippled through the air and Elsa turned in alarm. Marshmallow.

Had Anna returned? For the first time in a long time, Elsa darted to the door in excitement.

"Anna! I'm coming!" She cried as she made her way through the ice palace. As she came in closer, the faint sounds of men slowed her considerably, and she laid her hands on the huge front doors of the palace with fright. Pushing them open a crack, she shook as she saw men slammed into the snow by her monster. The guards from Arendelle, they fought her creature bravely and it terrified her. Her breathing became unsteady and the fear within her destroyed her perfect world. She shut the doors slowly, realising they had noticed her.

"Polaris!" She turned and stood on her dress, staggering to the ground. The contact she had with the floor sent tremors through her, and she felt the ice necklace around her neck shatter into pieces. Instead of accepting defeat she grasped the shards in disbelief and found her feet desperately. She ran to the stairs just as the front doors burst open. The polished ice pieces slipped from her hands and clattered to the floor. The anger and fear she felt was of none other. Instead of scrambling for them she grabbed her dress and lifted it slightly as she ran as fast as she could up the stairs.

A/N: In Norse Mythology, Freyja (meaning 'Lady') is the goddess of love and beauty. Brísingamen is the necklace the goddess wears – its name is a poetic term for 'fire'. As a gift to Elsa, Polaris intended for the necklace to act as a balance between the elements, which would ultimately help her subconsciously control her powers when returning to Arendelle. Elsa would not have known this, and was more likely to have thought of it as an optimistic reminder of Polaris. Once broken, all effects were shattered and this is the reason Elsa tried to injure the guards who entered the ice palace. Furthermore, if Elsa is Freyja, Polaris would be Óðr (Freyja's husband). Óðr is a symbol vehement (passion) and eagerness – shown in Chapter 6 when Polaris encourages Elsa to create more. Polaris is also named after the North Star, which (in this story) resides above the North Mountain – this is the spot where he and the rest of Elsa's creations travel to at the end.

This is background that may seem inappropriate but I just took inspiration from it, and it is interesting mythology to share.
