A/N: Sorry about the gigantic wait. I have no excuses.
Jack was following the prefect down towards the common room, listening to the people around him talk, trying to gather as much information as he could, without revealing anything about himself.
"Jack!" said a boy near him.
"Yes?" he said.
"So, what are you, blood status, I mean? I'm a pureblood, through and through, and almost no one gets into Slytherin that isn't pureblood, but I don't recognize your name."
Jack was slightly stunned by the forwardness, but he was one to talk. "Oh, I'm not sure what you mean by that."
The boy looked at him, slightly disgusted. "Mudblood scum." Jack heard him mutter to one of his friends.
After the kid had left him, Jack saw a small, mousy-haired girl tap his shoulder.
"Don't pay any attention to them. I'm sure you're a great person." she said, giving him a small smile.
"Who is he?" Jack asked.
"My brother." The girl muttered.
"Oh." Jack said, furrowing his brow. "Am I just a mudblood to you then, as well?"
"No!" she said, denying the claim. "That's just my brother, he thinks he is superior to everyone. I think you seem nice."
"What's your name?"
"Lorna Trask." she said shyly. "You're Jack Harkness."
"Did I stand out that much?"
Lorna blushed. "No, I was just paying attention."
Jack smiled at the girl. "To just me, or everyone?"
Lorna's blush deepened. "Everyone." she said, much too quickly.
"Right." Jack said, smiling a little wider.
At this point they had reached the common room.
The prefect cleared his throat at the front of the group. "Everyone listen up!" The group of chattering first-years quietened. "The password for the common room is 'Serpent tongue' but it will change."
When the prefect had said the password, a passage had been revealed. The prefect led them down to an underground common room, lit with dim green light.
"Boy's dormitories are to the left, girls are to the right." The prefect said. "I trust you can find them on your own."
"I'll see you in class." Lorna said, wandering over to her female classmates who were headed for the dormitories. Jack watched her for a moment, before turning to the door the prefect had pointed out, and finding the room marked 'First-years'. He pushed the door open, and went to the bed with his trunk at the foot, closing the curtains around him to give him some time to think.
