A/N: I'm going to try to update once a week or so now. Expect new chapters on Thursdays/Fridays. I also am looking for a beta, as so far this story has not been beta'd. If you are interested, just send me a PM. I don't bite, honestly.
The Doctor had followed a couple of older Ravenclaws to the table, trying to fit in as best he could and failing miserably. He kept getting distracted by portraits and the like, examining them to figure out how they worked. He had many theories, but none of them seemed fit enough for the situation. He was itching to take out his sonic, but was afraid it would attract too much attention. Instead, he spent his time at breakfast writing in Gallifreyan with his finger on the table, making invisible notes to himself and muttering under his breath. He was doing this, and he suddenly became aware of someone speaking to him. Looking up, he realized that it was Professor Flitwick and the professor was holding out a roll of parchment out to him expectantly.
"Sorry, what?" The Doctor said, confused as to what the piece of parchment was.
"Your schedule, Mr. Smith!" Flitwick squeaked, shaking the roll of parchment for emphasis.
"Right." The Doctor replied, taking the parchment. After he had done so, Flitwick scurried away, going to hand schedules to other students.
The Doctor unfurled the parchment, taking in his schedule. He gave a small smile when he saw that he had a midnight astronomy class on Tuesday. He supposed that would be an easy pass. After all, he had traveled those stars.
"Hey, Doc- John." he heard Rose say from behind him, her putting emphasis on the John.
"Hello Rose," The Doctor said, turning around and smiling at her. "Have you got your schedule, yet?"
"No." Rose said, just before Professor Sprout hurriedly thrust a piece of parchment into her hands.
"Your schedule, Miss Tyler." Professor Sprout said, before bustling off, her arms full of similar rolls of parchment.
"I guess I have one now." Rose grinned, unrolling the parchment and holding it up next to the Doctor's. "It looks like we have Herbology at the same time."
"Brilliant." The Doctor said, smiling up at Rose. "I'll see you in Herbology, then."
"Do you two lovebirds ever stop?" Jack joked, being the last one of the trio to arrive at breakfast.
"Of course." The Doctor said, breaking his gaze with Rose and turning to Jack. "I'm not entirely comfortable not being with the both of you the entire time. Who knows what could be in this castle?"
"Nothing I can't handle, Doc." Jack replied, grinning cockily.
"Rose?" The Doctor asked, looking at her with concern.
"I'll be fine." Rose smiled. "There are actual kids here, it must be pretty safe."
"Just don't wander off." The Doctor warned, knowing the attempt to make them stay put was going to be futile as always.
"We know, Doc." Jack said, "It's rule number one."
"I think that you two should return to your proper house tables." A cool voice said from behind them. It was a greasy-haired man, with a large hooked nose. "Mr. Harkness, I believe this is your schedule." he handed a roll of parchment to Jack, and walked away, giving them a glance to make sure they obeyed his suggestion.
"See you later, Doctor." Rose said, slightly dismayed she had to leave her two friends. She then departed for the Hufflepuff table.
"Same, Doc." Jack said, walking away while reading his schedule, walking through a ghost due to his inattention to his surroundings, and giving an involuntary shiver.
The Doctor sighed and returned to his breakfast, intensely troubled by the situation he and his friends were in.
