So I had some free time and decided to work on this. Here's your update.
The Captain and the Hunter Ch. V
Scarlett groaned, unwilling to wake up. The light was blinding and every sound was like thunder.
"Come on Scarlett, you'll have to wake up sometime."
Scarlett pressed her hands over her ears to keep out the sound.
"Scarlett get up."
Captain Scarlett gave in and opened her eyes. Standing over her was Sir Hammerlock.
"What do you want?" She asked, an annoyed and tired tone in her voice.
"I want you to wake up."
"Great. I just did. Now please let me go back to sleep."
"Not going to happen my dear. We've lots of work to do."
"Can't it wait?"
"No."
Scarlet groaned and sat up. Shortly after, she was hit by a wall of freezing water.
She screamed and then opened her eyes.
She saw Hammerlock standing in front of her with an empty bucket.
"What the hell was that for?!" She yelled. "I was getting up!"
"You were taking too long. Also you're a pirate and as such you tend to have a somewhat... Shall we say unappealing odor?"
"I've had crewmen shot over less than that coment." She muttered threateningly.
"And I'm not one of your crew. I'm also your only ticket out of the Sands, I've saved your life twice, and even then I'm sure my gentlemanly charm is more than enough to keep you from killing me."
Scarlett raised an eyebrow.
"That's really what you think is saving your life? Gentlemanly charm?"
"Maybe it's not the only thing that's keeping me alive but it can't hurt. Now come on, we've things to do."
Scarlett stood up with no small amount of effort. After all getting shot tended to mess with your ability to move. She walked toward the sand skiff that Hammerlock had parked nearby and he helped her get in.
"Excellent," he said. "We should be in Oasis in no time."
Hammerlock piloted the skiff out of the cave and towards the town.
They arrived shortly after, seeing as the cavern was almost directly next to the town.
Hammerlock pulled the skiff up to a pier and hopped out, he then reached out a hand to help Scarlett down.
"So, where's our best chance of finding the parts to fix your leg?" He asked her.
"There's only one living man in the whole town, so I guess our best bet is Shade. He's the one in the shop with the ugly pink neon sign over it."
"Excellent." He said.
The two walked down the boardwalk on the edge of town towards Shade's dwelling.
When they got there Hammerlock walked up to the counter.
Shade was leaning back in a chair, his feet propped up on the counter and his hat pulled over his eyes.
"Excuse me good fellow."
"Hmm?" He said raising his hat so that he could see. "Oh! A visitor!"
He took his feet down and sat up straight.
"What can I do for you friend?"
"I'm looking for some parts to repair a mechanical leg like mine."
"I don't think I have anything in here. Or at least not what you need. I'm sorry, I guess you'll just have to stay here forever and not walk away like everybody else!"
"No you've got it all wrong my fellow. You see the parts are not for me they're for Miss Scarlett over there."
"Scarlett?"
Shade peered over the counter and saw Captain Scarlett standing off to the side.
"Gah!" He screamed. "You brought a sand pirate into my town?!"
"Yes I suppose I did."
"Is there an army's worth of you right behind my shop ready to kill me if I don't cooperate?"
"Why yes. Yes there is." Scarlett said, attempting to bluff her way into getting Shade's help.
"Yeah right." He replied. "Word on the pier is that you don't even have a ship any more, let alone a pirate army."
At that moment a cannon fired and ripped its way into a nearby building.
"No! Please don't kill us and take all our water!" Shade yelled. He then brought down the metal screen over his shop window.
"I thought you were bluffing about the pirate army." Hammerlock said.
"I thought I was too."
Scarlett peered around the edge of Shade's shop and looked out into the sands.
A ship was approaching fast. Her ship.
"Bunch of bloody pirates." She mumbled.
"Scarlett what's going on?"
"My crew must have tracked us here. They'll be right on top of us in a minute or so. Shall we start running?"
"Let's. But what about that Shade fellow?"
"He'll be fine. They want me not him. Besides, he's annoying."
"Good enough for me. Let's go."
Hammerlock broke out into a sprint towards the nearest Fast Travel Station, Scarlett followed close behind.
Another shot from the ship landed, destroying a nearby building.
"Their aim is getting better!" Hammerlock yelled.
"Never shot that good when they were working for me."
"Revenge is an excellent motivator."
Another building, just to Scarlett's left, crumbled to the ground.
"How much farther?!" She yelled at him.
"Just to the edge of town. I can see the Fast Travel now."
Another shot landed close to Scarlett. She fell to the ground.
"Son of a bitch!"
Hammerlock turned around.
"Did they get you?"
"Yes."
"Can you walk?"
Scarlett tried to stand up but fell back to the ground.
"No. They hit my good leg."
"Lovely."
It was then that Hammerlock also noticed that Scarlett's crew had landed and was moving quickly threw the town towards them. Hammerlock released that Scarlett wasn't going to last much longer if she stayed where she was. So he ran back to her and quickly picked her up. For a brief moment he strained under the weight.
"I know it's not really my place to ask, but how much do you weigh?! I can barely pick you up."
"Hey! It's all the metal limbs that weigh me down. And I am not that heavy."
"Of course you're not." He said with a hint of sarcasm.
Hammerlock began running towards the Fast Travel again.
"How close are they behind us?" He asked.
Scarlett looked to the side of his head.
"About forty yards."
"That's within range of gunfire isn't it?"
"Probably."
A sudden hail of bullets told Hammerlock that he was right.
"Do you mind shooting back at them? I would but you know, my hands are relatively occupied carrying you."
"I could do without the sarcasm." She muttered.
None the less, she unholstered her pistol and fired into the crowd of pirates behind them.
A couple of them dropped to the ground but more just came to take their place.
"Are we there yet?" She asked. "I can't slow them down very much longer."
"Here we are."
Hammerlock set Scarlett down on the ground and punched in the coordinates for Sanctuary.
The two of them disappeared instantly.
The pirates arrived just moments too late to stop them. They stopped running, gave a collective sigh and walked back to their ship, heads hung low.
Authors Note: I'm not exactly for shamelessly promoting myself, but in this case I'm going to make an exception. This fic has next to no views and that somewhat bothers me. So if you guys who read it and liked it could maybe tell your friends about it, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
