Disclaimer: Yeah. I don't own vocaloid. But the plot is entirely mine! ^^

The man's footsteps echoed through the empty hallway, the only sound in this sea of silence. His feet almost glided over the floor, as the strange man hastily headed towards the throne room quickly looked around him. It was a little after sunset, yet the hallway was eerily dark and gloomy. His ninja-like attire made him almost invisible in the dark, only his hair and scarf made were visible. Finally he reached the great, lavishly ornate wooden doors and swiftly entered the room before bowing deeply. "Your majesty," he whispered. The king was sitting in his massive throne, head tilted, hands under his chin. His cruel and cold eyes skimmed over the man. "Ah, Kaito… I have another mission for you…" His voice drawled out lazily, yet dangerously, like a snake waiting to strike. He paused, smirking ever so subtly. "It seems certain dangers of the past are resurfacing again, specifically a group well acquainted with the pathetic excuse for a princess. Eliminate their boss. I trust you already took care of that rogue girl? It should be no problem…" He raised his eyebrows and smiled, yet it was devoid of any joy; it was more cruel satisfaction and scheming. Kaito paled at the end of his majesty's sentence, but quickly composed himself. He curtly nodded before softly speaking "Of course, your majesty. I shall start as soon as it is possible." With a wave of his hand, the king dismissed him, and the assassin rapidly walked out, distancing himself from his ruler as fast as possible.

*Miku's POV*

I curtly nodded as the girl before me, Meiko, stood up. She genuinely smiled at me. "Everything is falling into place! It's pure luck that a plan can be so perfect!" I tersely smiled before pushing open the kitchen door.

Now I smile nervously as I pace around my room, looking out of the window at the dusky sky. Two days till the grand ball, where not only Rin will meet her suitor, but so will I… Questions bubble and spin madly through my mind: what to wear? Should I look cute? Regal? Dignified? What if my betrothed will be an ugly old man? Oh No! I pull my hair and tears fill up my eyes. Never! I will never marry an old man! I desperately try to calm the butterflies in my stomach. I breathe in deeply. What to do to relieve the stress? An evil grin stretches across my face. Nothing better than boring my dear cousin to death of course~

*Rin's POV*

I sigh as Miku walks in front of me, the wind gently blowing her twintails. How boring… oh well. She reaches out to stroke a bird's delicate feathers, a soft smile on her lips. However my mind is entirely focused on the ball… my stomach twists around just thinking of the plan of escape. Miku suddenly whips around. "I'll miss you, you know?" she looks at the ground. Her lacquered shoes are very interesting apparently. I feel myself smiling at her, and she grins tentatively. She shakes her heads violently. "Let's practice the plan!" she exclaims. "I'll act as Meiko." I breathe in deeply and pretend I'm in a swirling ballroom, guests dancing around, the room full of melody and noisy chatter. I try not to think of who my future fiancé will look like, because I'm going to run away and be with my real family soon, not some goon who wants my kingdom and money. I open my eyes and gently clear my throat. "Pardon me, dear guests… I am very honored that you all came to attend this party rarara-" Miku rolls her eyes and gives me the death glare. "This party and that you chose to witness the happy news that will be announced shortly. And now, let the real fun begin!" I step down from an imaginary estrade and sliver to Miku who beckons me with a discreet hand motion. She takes me by the wrist and we run away from the rosebushes towards the fruit garden. "Well", the tealette says, panting, "seems that everything is in place…" I nod silently. Just as she starts heading back, I cry out. "Wait! I'll miss you too!" She stops mid-walk and turns around halfway, smiling. Her lips move to the sound of the word 'yes', and walks back to the castle.

*Timeskip*

The castle is full of activity as the staff rounds around preparing the grand party that will be held this evening, yet the royals seem not to care; the two princesses haven't shown any sign of excitement and are rarely wandering the hallways together like they usually do. His Majesty is barely seen at all, and his first minister is always busy. A lively brunette walks hurriedly in the corridor, frowning. In her haste she hasn't noticed the ring that slipped off her finger and onto the floor, tinkling softly. She rubs her hands together, biting her lip, and is about to turn the corner when a deep and attractive voice halts her. "Miss, you dropped someth-" Meiko slowly turns around, and freezes into place. Standing tall before her is someone she wished she didn't know, holding her precious ring. Seeing her, his eyes widen and his free hand flies to his weapon belt. Quickly the girl dashes to him in a vain attempt to snatch back her jewel. "You!" he hisses. Before she knows it, his sword is pressed against her neck. "You have one chance to run, rogue" His voice is rough and he wills it to be angry. "Run before I kill you" he whispers. Something passes through her eyes, a quick flash of emotion, but it is gone before he can analyze it. Suddenly his eyes dart to her neck, where a small trickle of blood makes it way to her collarbone, staining the fabric. Meiko grips his slightly shaking wrist, forcing him to lose his grip on his sword, and it clatters noisily on the ground. "No" she whispers. "Before I kill you". With that, she whips around and makes a mad dash towards the exit as the blue-haired man picks up his sword and stares after her.
