Not Really Eavesdropping

Summary: That couldn't be called eavesdropping, he was just listening on everyone else's conversations; it was good practice to know what the people around him needed, right?

All that Jason could think of was, Is that really how all girls talk? It wasn't normal for him to just sit and listen, but the more that he thought about it, the more that he didn't want to get up. He was used to being "observed". What?

He was a team player. Everyone looked at him whether he liked it or not. Now that he was laying on the great, big stretch of grass, he noticed that there was quite a lot of chatter around him. He thought about things in an aerial view, whenever his friends were around there was loud, talking going on.

Why hadn't he noticed it before? The answer was simple, he joined in with the laughter and chitchat every single time. Jason Grace was now curious as to how and what his best friend, Reyna talked about when he wasn't there? Did she talk about guys and how they looked or battle tactics when she had time off?

Did she even talk at all when he wasn't around? Okay, that was just that little annoying, conceited, son of Jupiter part coming out. Of course, she talked when he wasn't around, it's not like he was the reason that he talked.

Surely she had friends too. There was no doubt about it. She had warm friends that took care of her in the Second Cohort. He was starting to get full of himself.

Jason decided to get his mind off of that subject and decided to close his eyes, listening to everyone else, to lose himself to the surroundings. He knew he was going to lead this camp one day because the only other person that wanted it from him was Octavian and there was no way in ancient Rome was Jason going to allow that to happen. So for now, the over-listening, not eavesdropping, mind you, was just preparation for noticing what the legion and the people around him needed. He was just going to listen in. Nope, whatever going on was not going to be important enough that he was going to drastically ruin something.

He was so intent on reassuring himself that he wasn't eavesdropping that when the shadow hovering over him didn't move, he thought the sun was just temporarily covered by the clouds. Lose himself to the surroundings, yeah, right! Nope, Bobby, Dakota, and Gwen had spotted him. Jason jumped to sit up, his eyes open, wide and a look of alarm written plainly on his face. His eyes scanned around seeing an child's pail almost empty, with water still dripping out of it and concluded that the culprit was the person holding onto it, Reyna.

The four (Reyna, Gwen, Dakota, and Bobby) ran for their lives as a sudden light rain was pouring from the sky. Jason's resolve to listen in on others was temporarily forgotten and he chased them all around camp. They sure got a good workout from it, courtesy of Hannibal the elephant deciding to join the chase.

Author's Note:

I really abused the italics button didn't I? I was going to end this at four paragraphs and four sentences for each as a challenge, but my fingers just kept on typing and I got up to 508 words... Ah, oh well then.

Just think of this as a little bonus for waiting for the next chapter. I deleted around 3 hours of work for the next chapter so I'm gonna try to get a recovery on it or else I just might beat myself up, wish me luck.
