He turned the corner and his stomach lurched into his throat. "Let her go Marcel or so help me,"
"I don't really think you're in a position to make threats, Klaus," Marcel growled, moving one of the chains slightly so the sharp metal piece ripped into the skin of Caroline's wrist. She screamed, tears filling her eyes.
"Caroline," Klaus's voice was full of pain. "What do you want?" He turned to Marcel, advancing on him.
"What do you think? New Orleans, mine."
"You think I'd be stupid enough to just hand over my creation to you."
"No. Thats why I have her." Marcel flashed next to Caroline, his teeth bared against her neck. He bit into her and Caroline screamed again, trying to pull away from him and digging her wrists deeper into the metal spikes around them. Marcel pulled away and smiled, her blood coating his lips. "She tastes good, Klaus, have you had any?" He rubbed the blood from his lips onto his thumb and held his hand out to Klaus.
"Let her go."
"Not until I get what I want," Marcel smiled cruely at Klaus, "I heard this interesting thing from a witch I was torturing. She is the only way to kill you. Really kill you. Isn't she?"
Klaus took another fleeting look at Caroline and turned to Marcel, "then kill me. If you're going to kill her I'd rather be dead too."
"Oh, I'm not that stupid. I'm not going to kill her, I'm going to sire her to me. Saving her from this torture, she won't be able to help wanting to repay me." Marcel bit into his wrist and forced it against Caroline's lips. Her eyes grew wide as his blood filled her mouth. Klaus saw her try to resist, then swallow. "What will you do when she is sired to me?"
Klaus flashed to Marcel, pushing him against the wall. "Let her go," Klaus growled.
"I wouldn't do that," Marcel said, showing Klaus the chain attached to his own wrist. Klaus followed the line of it to Caroline, realizing that the chain would pull the trigger of a gun resting against her head. "One more move and she's mine."
"Klaus," Caroline whimpered, fear lining her perfect lips and eyes.
Klaus stepped back from Marcel, realizing his defeat. "Fine, take it. Take whatever you want. Let her go."
"You don't think I'm that stupid do you? You've trained me better than that. Announce it to the whole community."
Klaus walked out onto the balcony, realizing that Marcel's plan was perfect, everyone was already assembled, waiting for his announcement. "Marcel is now the leader of this community," he choked out. He walked back into the room and glared at Marcel.
"Good" he said, pulling the end of one chain and releasing Caroline, who slumped onto the floor, bleeding from her wrists still. Klaus rushed to her and pulled her into his arms. He started to walk out of the room when he felt a searing pain in his back. "Just a goodbye present," Marcel growled, twisting the White Oak stake in his back before removing it. "Oops, I think it splintered inside of you there buddy."
Klaus took a deep breath and forced himself to forget the pain and not drop Caroline. He managed to get her back to their hotel, pressing her lightly on the bed before growling in pain. He wrapped her wrists, which were already stopping bleeding and starting to look better. "There you are, love," he whispered, kissing her forehead. He left her on the bed to sleep and walked into the next room, trying to get the wood out of his back. He huffed and growled, but couldn't get the right angle.
Caroline walked up behind him, pressing her cool hand to his sweat covered shoulder. "Let me help you," she said, taking the pliers that he had been using from him. She traced her cool fingers along his back lightly, making him shiver. She stopped just next to the wound. He tensed with anticipation, but instead felt her soft lips against his back, tracing kisses back along the line where her fingers had just been. He sighed, loving the feeling of her lips on his skin. Suddenly he felt a sharp pain and pulled away with a gasp. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Caroline said, holding up the wood piece in the pliers, "I got it!"
He turned and kissed her fiercely, feeling her arms wrap around him and forgetting about the pain in his back.
"New Orleans…" She started.
He silenced her with another kiss, "Don't worry, love. I've got a plan for that."
