Chapter 5
Maka bit her lip, grateful for the comforting squeeze Black Star gave her hand under the table; she cleared her throat before she answered "Yeah I found out this afternoon." She answered Liz and Patti squealed, the older Thompson yanking her gently out of her chair before wrapping her in her arms. Patti came up next with an excited "I'm gonna be an Auntie!" Maka laughed as she hugged them back and was even surprised when Kid hugged her too congratulating her with a soft smile. "Are you excited?" Liz asked still giddy, Maka shrugged "I'm not sure how to feel right now, I'm not sure I'm over the news still." Any further comment was interrupted when Nygus and Sid stepped over to the table "Now what is all the commotion about?" Mira asked looking between Maka and Black Star for an answer "Maka's gonna be a mom." Star said with a nudge to the jade eyed woman's rib a gasp came from the older woman and Sid let out a low whistle "Is it true Maka? Am I really going to be a grandmother?" Mira asked her hands covering her mouth in what Maka hoped was hopeful surprise "Yeah," she smiled "You and Sid finally get the grandchild Star here hasn't given you yet." Maka gave the bluenette a sly smirk to which he responded with a grumbled "I'm working on it!" making Maka laugh. "Oh Maka! I'm so happy; I can't wait to meet him or her." Mira exclaimed excitedly "You can count on us if you ever need anything! Don't even worry about it Sid and I love kids so whenever you need a babysitter or just need a break call us and we'll do it."
It wasn't until she was on stage getting ready to do her song that she realized two things: 1. she had subconsciously decided to keep the baby and 2. Neither Soul nor his wife had said anything during her confession. Her musing was halted when a light tap on her shoulder had her glancing at none other than Jessica "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to put you on the spot like that I thought everyone knew already." The blond woman said giving her a small smile, the ash blond shook her head "It's ok it actually saved me a lot of trouble I wasn't sure how to come out with it and you kind of helped me out, so thank you." Jessica smiled widely "In that case congratulations!" she said giving her a warm hug "I'm sure the baby's father is happy too." Maka faltered but muttered a thank you. Jessica went back to sit next to Soul and Maka kept ignoring how he stared at her if she met his eyes she didn't know what she would do. "Ok everything is set up." Star said coming up behind her "All right let's do this." She smiled at him. She took the microphone stand and sat it in front of the stool Black Star had brought for her and adjusted it so she could speak into it, "All right," she began her voice amplified by the speakers hanging on the wall "Thanks for coming everyone this is a new song I came up with on the fly so I hope you like it." She finished with a grin Liz whooped cupping her hands around her mouth "I love you Maka!" the ash blond laughed shaking her head and gave Sid the signal to begin the track. The sound of Maka's guitar and her own mix came through the speakers:
Bad by Wale ft. Tiara Thomas (Maka= Bold, Black Star= Italic)
Monogamy or whatever you call it, we started thinking for everybody
Most of us is rushing into it anyway, know what I'm sayin?
You ain't rushing for love and I ain't happy to judge
So let's neglect the what if's eh
Make it do what it do
Maka closed her eyes as the she got into the beat, she then began her part it was meant for one person and she hoped he would get her message.
Is it bad that I never made love? No I never did it
But I sure know how to fuck
I'll be a bad girl, I'll prove it to you
I can't promise that I'll be good to you
'Cuz I've had some issues
I won't commit, no, not having it
But at least I can admit that I'll be bad to you
Yeah I'll be good in bed, but I'll be bad to you
Is it bad that I never made love? No I never did it
But I sure know how to fuck
Let's get it
Bad girls ain't no dove and the good girls ain't no front
In the hood girls want a smart nigga, college girls all want a thug
So it seems that we fiend what we don't need
Got a thing for a queen who no wanna leave
Ain't bout to judge you, no judge me
Ya ain't gotta really sing 'bout your rap sheet
Cuz I heard you (bad no)
In the letter of sense I mean that
Plus sexing and I love ya
But to kiss him like say you mean it
(bad no) I know, I just be callin her mean ass
Or the irony got a bomb of D
But the polymer's probably gonna be plastic
Still I'm feeling this and I need that
Even if I get her I get her to need this
I don't need emotion to open your deep sea
I conceive a ocean by going between lack, back
No bed, flo', dope
Go forward, couch, now
Slow motion around
Put it down, Lord knows she's going for the morn' hold up
Is it bad that I never made love? No I never did it
But I sure know how to fuck
I'll be a bad girl, I'll prove it to you
I can't promise that I'll be good to you
'Cuz I've had some issues
I won't commit, no, not having it
But at least I can admit that I'll be bad to you
Yeah I'll be good in bed, but I'll be bad to you
She had issues, trusting issues and words meant nothing, she wasn't the best candidate for wife material, she was broken, used and abused something she would never heal from because those wounds were always there and they always would be.
Let me tell you 'bout her
Look, she hurt feelings, she break hearts
She stay quiet, she play smart
She take pride, In going out
In getting hollered that, In staying out
She's no saint but don't pose
She don't wear make-up by the boat load
Riding through lake shore with the nose up
She don't really fake much but this nose up
She got haters but we all do
Heard you when the time comes shorty follow thought
Baby like a bad poach how they caught you
All the mind games, never mind cuz they all lose
(Bad no) in the physical sense I mean that
I ain't tryn'a kiss up, suck up, feed gas
I ain't like them suckas you suckin your teeth at fair
Nope (bad no) play bit
Trust me, I humble your mean ass
Look, shorty gets actually I'm prevent
Cuz don't wanna front it let's work on with deep threat yup
Bed, floor, couch, move
More, shower, lord, perm – done
Love – nah, caught in the morning cell number wasn't' on goddamn
Words used by men over and over again, she'd heard it all before I won't hurt you, you mean everything to me, I would never leave you. Lies all lies she knew and yet she would always fall for them no matter what. She'd broken hearts and had her heart broken, in the end she learned to play the game better, until Soul came around.
Is it bad that I never made love? No I never did it
But I sure know how to fuck
I'll be a bad girl, I'll prove it to you
I can't promise that I'll be good to you
'Cuz I've had some issues
I won't commit, no, not having it
But at least I can admit that I'll be bad to you
Yeah I'll be good in bed, but I'll be bad to you
Is it bad that I never made love? No I never did it
but I sure know how to fuck
She opened her eyes as her verse finished, she grinned as Liz and Patti whistled and cheered, Kid clapped smiling wide and Tsubaki grinned back at her giving her a thumbs up. Star came over and wrapped his arms around her shoulders and kissed her head, she hugged him "Thanks Star, you were amazing." She said. He nodded they turned to the stairs and he helped her down, "Hey can I talk to you?" Soul said coming up the pair, Maka nodded to Black Star and the bluenette went to sit back at the table Maka led Soul back up the stairs and behind the stage where a hallway led to a storage room. They walked in and she took a seat on one of the boxes "What's up?" she asked hoping she didn't lose her cool being so close to him "Are you really pregnant?" he asked she nodded "Yeah, I am." She answered he let out a harsh breath "Who's the Father?" Maka bit her lip staring at the wall beside her "You." She replied eyeing him sideways she saw him tense but didn't comment letting the news sink in "Are…" he stopped rethinking his question "Why didn't you tell me before? I mean before today." Maka shrugged "I wanted to make sure before I said anything and I wasn't even sure if I was going to tell you." He inhaled sharply "Why wouldn't I want to know Maka? That's my child too." He paused as if he were repeating his words again "Wow, I can actually say my child." He muttered in amazement.
Maka nodded "Yeah but anyway now you know." She said "Are we done talking? I don't want your wife to get mad or something." Soul snorted "I don't care the only reason she came today was because she tagged along if not she would be somewhere else." Maka hummed "Are we done talking anyway? I'm kinda hungry." "No we're not, what are you going to do about the baby?" she looked down at her stomach "I'm keeping the baby that's as far as I've gotten." She frowned "Do you want to be involved?" he glared "Of course I want to be involved, but I meant about us." Maka tensed this wasn't something she wanted to discuss "What about us?" she asked frowning again "I may be pregnant by you but that doesn't mean anything, if it wasn't by you it would be someone else." He flinched at the last part but met her gaze squarely "I know that," he began bitterly "but I don't want our kid to be the only thing between us Maka, I don't want him/her to spend the rest of his/her life going back and forth between us." Maka looked down at the floor and but her lip before speaking up "I know but it's the way it's gonna be I don't want to be with you." Strong! Stay strong! She chided herself she could feel the hurt begin to bloom in her chest and she didn't want to break down in front of him.
"Look me in the eyes and say that." He commanded she could feel him looking at her but she refused to meet his eyes. She wasn't sure she could keep her resolve if she did though why she would want to she didn't know. She loved, God she loved him, but like her song said she had issues and it was that reason along with the fear of getting hurt that she didn't want to say yes. But wasn't she already hurting? Being away from him was torture enough. Hands cupped her cheeks and forced her to meet the ruby red of his eyes "Now tell me you don't want me." "Soul… don't" she tried to pull her face away but his hand fell to grab her by the nape keeping her in place "Tell me Maka, look me in the eyes and tell me you don't want to be with me." Tears pooled and threatened to overflow why was this so hard?! Lips feathered lightly over hers and her breath hitched "Maka you can't say it because you know you do, in the time I've known you I learned about you and one thing I learned is that you aren't a woman of many words your actions speak for themselves." Her tears fell sliding to hide in her hair as her head was tilted upwards his thumbs wiped them away and he kissed her softly leaning his forehead against hers "You're an idiot you know that? To think I would stay away I'm here and you didn't even invite me." She'd forgotten about that, who had… Black Star. "I do want you Soul but we can't be together what we did was wrong and we'll be bringing a child into something complicated.." she trialed off as he pressed his lips to hers to silence her "Idiot. I don't know what would be complicated." Anger ripped through her and she pushed him away.
"How can you not know?" she hissed "You're married to Jessica! How do you explain to your child that his/her father is married to another woman? Someone who isn't his/her mom!" Maka's chest heaved Soul pulled him to her "Calm down! You'll hurt the baby." Maka huffed trying to calm down scowling the whole time, her anger sparking once again when he chuckled "What's funny?" she snapped and he kissed her temple "Nothing, but we won't have to explain that to the baby," she opened her mouth to ask why when he shook his head "I was going to tell everyone at the same time but I guess I'll tell you now, Jessica and I we decided to split up she confessed that the baby she's having isn't mine, though I already knew, and after a long talk I confessed my own adultery and we both know and understand we're not meant for each other." Maka remained quiet unsure of what to say he took the time to continue "I've even met the man she cheated on me with and there are no hard feelings, we already started the divorce process and after that you and I will get married." Maka's heart stuttered before going into full gallop "Who says I want to get married?" she asked looking to meet his once happy face falter and replaced by what Maka had heard called the Kicked-Puppy look. She grinned "Just kidding!" Soul shook his head and laughed "What am I getting myself into?"
