Chapter 8
A/N I actually wrote a bit of this chapter then I accidently deleted it all. I was pissed off at first but I managed to re-write it and it turned out better than I thought! Haha so enjoy chapter 8!
Mordecai swallowed as he stood at the bottom of the stairs. With a pounding heart, he clutched the rail and walked up, his legs shaking with every step.
As soon as he reached the top, he knocked.
"Come in."
Mordecai turned the knob and pushed the door to Bensons office open. Benson looked up to see who it was and once he saw it was Mordecai, his gaze diverted back to the paper he'd been writing on.
"Oh...hey Morgan."
Mordecai sensed the sadness in his voice and he crossed to the empty seat and sat down. "Benson, listen, about what happened last night-"
"Please can we not talk about this?" Benson pinched the bridge of his nose. "I don't need to be reminded of it."
"But-"
"Please."
Mordecai paused. "I'm sorry for what I did." Benson looked up, his eyebrows furrowed. "It was an accident, I didn't mean to kiss you-
"Wait, what?"
Mordecai stopped and he looked down at the carpet. "Oh god..."
"Was this all a setup?"
The blue jays eyes widened and he looked back up. "What, Benson, no!"
"Morgan, please leave."
Mordecai swallowed when he heard anger and disappointment. "Benson, listen-"
"Now."
The avian sighed. He stood and turned and walked back to the door. But he turned back at the last second. "Listen, I just came up here to apologize. I'm so sorry for leaving you like that. I-I was just shocked." Mordecai began to walk back to Bensons desk but the gumball machine didn't say a word.
Benson paused to think. He kept looking at Morgan every now and again while the blue jay stood waiting for a response.
"Alright, I forgive you Morgan." Mordecai breathed a sigh of relief. "And I apologize for leading you on like that. It-it was too soon."
"Apology accepted." Mordecai smiled shyly.
"But-" Mordecai looked up. "-I just need to know...do-do you like me?"
The avian froze up. He swallowed and focused his attention on the window outside. "I-" His eyes drifted to Benson and as soon as he met his eyes, something in his mind clicked.
He edged around the desk and smirked. "Does this answer your question?" He said seductively. Bensons eyes grew wide as he watched his employee stop in front of him and without a word, Mordecai knelt down, leant forward and kissed Benson softly on the lips.
Benson was hesitant at first, unsure if this was a trick or not but when Mordecai tilted his head forward, he melted into it.
A sharp pain in Mordecais skull made him jerk back and he came back to reality as he landed on the carpet. He raised his head and his boss stared wide eyed back at him.
"Benson I-" He closed his eyes when the pain increased. Benson pushed himself off his seat and he bent down next to the blue jay, who was lying on the carpet with tears in his eyes. As soon as the gumball machines hand touched his arm, the burning sensation shot through his mind and he let out a scream. His eyes snapped open and only one thought was on his mind as he found Bensons eyes.
"Benson." His boss stared at him. "Get Skips."
"Why-"
"Please." Mordecais voice became a whisper and tears streamed down his cheeks. "Get Skips."
The gumball machine felt tears pool his eyes and he nodded. He stood and went to the door. Mordecai watched him go till a searing hot pain made him see white and he closed his eyes again. "I..." He began to slip in and out of conciousness as a burning sensation speeped through his brain. His body went limp and he could hardly focus on anything and soon, he fell into a deep slumber.
Something cold pressed against his forehead made his eyes slowly open and he reached up to feel that it was a wet flannel. He looked ahead and his eyes began to adjust to his surroundings. He was in his bedroom, in his bed.
"What? Why am I here?" He said aloud.
"Mordecai."
The blue jay turned his head and he almost fainted when he saw Skips sitting next to him. "Skips..." He shot up when a thought occured to him. "Benson, where's Benson? I need-"
"Mordecai, calm down." Skips took the flannel, felt it in his hand then dropped it in a bucket of cold water. He looked back up at the blue jay with a calm expression. "Bensons fine. He's back in his office. I didn't tell him." He added when he saw the expression on the blue jays face. "But he was confused when he explained what had happened. I did manage to tell him that you'd been experiencing some radiation poisoning from fighting a giant worm yesterday afternoon."
Mordecai smiled in relief and he slunk back down under the covers. "Thank you Skips." He opened his eyes and when he saw Skips was looking back with a grim frown, he swallowed and sat back up.
"What's wrong?"
"Do you know why you passed out Mordecai?"
The blue jay had a fair idea but he shook his head.
Skips sighed. "Morgan's beginning to take over your personaility. She's becoming you."
Mordecais eyes widened. "What?" He asked in shock.
"If I don't get the antidote soon, Morgan could take over your body and you could be stuck like her forever."
"wHAT?" Mordecai shot up.
"I was afraid this would happen." Skips mumbled.
"Wait...you knew?" The avians eyebrows furrowed.
"I didn't think Morgan would be this strong. I thought you'd avoid going near Benson but I was wrong." He suddenly looked at Mordecai with a frown. "What did Eileen tell you last night?"
"She-she told me to apologize to Benson because I might get some closure with all of it."
"And did Benson say anything to you afterward?"
"He asked me if I liked him despite what happened."
Skips went quiet. "That'll do it." He picked up the bucket of water. "Now that Morgan's taking an almost full affect on both your mind and your soul, I'm going to try to find a quicker way to get that antidode." Skips stood and skipped to the door. Just as he placed his hand on the doorknob-
"Skips, wait."
The yeti stopped.
"Can you just...run it by me again?"
"The reason why you had the burning in your mind is because Morgans thoughts and feelings were trying to take over you. For the next few days, I need you to avoid Benson incase something drastic happen, something that no magic can fix."
Mordecais heart slammed in his chest, but he nodded. "Okay. Thank you Skips."
Skips turned back to the door.
"Wait, one more thing."
The yeti looked at him.
"Should I tell Benson at all about whats been going on?"
"No. Benson will go into shock and the truth'll affect both you and him. Just don't say a word and avoid him."
Skips saw the expression on the blue jays face and so he added: "I know it'll hurt to see the look on Bensons face when he realizes you're avoiding him but we can't come clean to him until you've changed back."
Mordecai sighed as Skips opened the door and the blue jay waited for it to shut before closing his eyes and falling back to sleep.
