Seventh Month

The alarm clock flashed 11:45 PM, but the laptop time was two minutes earlier.

The young couple had gone out for some frozen yogurt, the only desserts they could afford with their money situation, and Red was already shivering in the cold once they stepped out of the parlor. The man had told his mother...a little white lie. He was going to study that night. At Vio's house and sleepover...but instead, Blue "kinapped" him after school and snuck him back to his house for some alone time...

Red was currently curled up in a comfortable fetal position on Blue's pullout bed, out like a light to sleep off the yogurt, and Blue was on the other side of him with a 7 year old barely functioning laptop on his propped up lap. Ever few minutes he would hastily clear the history in panic when Red would stirr around. False alarm each time

-How to raise a child

- What does a father do in the hospital when his child is born?

- How to change a diaper

-How to be a good father

-What if my child doesn't like me?

-How to be a good father

-When do I feel like a father?

Blue bit his lip as his eyes darted back and forth from the screen to the keyboard, asking about financial problems, until he remembered the card.

That little card was still in his coat pocket...

Reaching down on the ground to pick the card from his jacket pocket, careful not to move the bed, and looked into the palm of his hand. Using only the light shining off the laptop screen, he read the nicely printed buisness card.

Blue gazed down at the card in his hand for a few minutes, his heart racing. He took a final look at his sleeping boyfriend, his stomach getting so big. His child growing stronger each day. He would do anything to keep them both...

Typing a few words, backspacing most of them, and proof reading it over 6 times to make sure it was flawless, he hit the send button. Blue swallowed most of his fears and hoped to the gods that everything will work out.

The computer clock read 12:02 AM, but the alarm clock read 12:00 AM, March 1st.

First friday of March. First day of parenting classes. Red's day was already off to a bad start.

"And if you factor this number to the one on the other side, you'll turn out with a whole different equation. Red?"

The young man quickly snapped out of his thoughts, the baby in his tummy was constantly shifting and giving him little pains that distracted his from his work. "Yes...?"

His teacher cocked her head to the side and tapped the dry erase board with the marker. "What's the new equation?"

"U-um," Red shuffled his papers all around, all of sudden loosing his place among the papers. Then the groans of his class mates started. They began whispering and snickering. He didn't know if it was at him or for an inside conversation. Either way he got more uncomfortable by the second. "Which, uh...q-question are we-"

The teacher sighed and began leaning to one side. "Just figure out how which number multiplies to 5 to get 30."

"Oh," Red mumbled and dragged his fingers through his hair, the baby still kicking.

A boy wearing a football jersey kicked the back of Red's chair and whispered harshly. "C'mon, just answer it!"

More whispers were flying across the room towards Red. "Six!" "It's six!" "Really?!"

Tears filled his eyes but he managed to stutter out a meek "six".

The teacher simply blinked and stepped closer to his desk, her hand reaching up next to her ear. "I'm sorry, what was it?"

A chorus of groans later and Red's voice cracked outloud. "Six..."

"There we go!" His teacher smiled way too enthusiastically and began writing the answer up on the board.

The boy in front of Red turned around when the teacher's back was to the class and shook his hand. "Good job. That was a hard one, I'm glad you pulled through."

He left Red flushed and shaky when he turned faceforward and the girl with straight dyed black haired playfully hit him on the arm. "Oh my God, you are so mean." She smiled and chewed her gum, and Red hid his face in his hands.

'Kill me, please.'

"Will Red and Blue please come to the Main Office. Your bus is here for your classes. Red and Blue, please come to the Main Office."

Click.

"Well," his teacher shut the cap on her marker, "we'll see you tomorrow. Don't forget to do the rest of the front sheet for tomorrow."

The room fell silent as Red awkwardly picked up his things and shuffled out of the room. The second he stepped out of the door, the room errupted in laughing and chatter.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-

"You were crying, weren't you?" Blue was hot on Red's tail with him speed walking after his boyfriend, whose face was flushed and twisted. "No I wasn't, Blue. I don't want to talk about it. Let's...just get this class over with, okay?"

"Tell me! Whoever it was, I'll beat 'em up!" Blue caught up with Red's fast pace and took his hand and squeezed it to get his attention. "Was someone making fun of you?"

Red gave Blue a cold glare, a very rare sight for Blue to see, and that made him uneasy. "What else is new. Of course they were..."

Blue glanced to the side but kept up with Red, pulling his boyfriend in a hug with one arm, pressing his cheek to Red's hair. "Forget about them. It's over, right? School is almost over...you'll never see them again."

Cracking a smile, Red snuggled his head into the fur of Blue's opened hoodie and continued walking down the empty hallways until they turned the corner and spotted the 'Main Office' sign hanging above glass double doors. The principle himself was standing inside the office by the front desk, talking with the receptionist and the school's phsyciatrist. The latter was the first to notice the couple approaching and motioned them inside with a smile.

"It's good to see you two..." She briefly looked them over; Red's skin was an unhealthy pale, like he wasn't warm enough, and the only thing that held color were his button red nose and rosy cheeks. His jacket that he's worn nearly everyday to school this winter, as well as his scarf, could barely wrap around his stomach. Blue held a secure arm around his boyfriend's frail shoulders, staring blankly at her, but turning himself away to press into Red, like he was a mother and Red was the most precious item. Despite the circumstance, she smiled to herself in admiration for the love she could see between them. The Principle butted in before she could tell them anything else.

"The bus taking you to the birthing classes are in the parking lot. We just wanted a security guard to escort you two there, all right?" He forced a friendly smile, and Blue simply nodded while all Red wanted to do was close his eyes and go to sleep.

The principle picked up his walkie talkie and held the button, reciting a code and ordering, whoever was on the other end, that he was to report to the main office quickly. The phsyciatrist stepped forward and shared a sympathetic glance with the couple.

"Everything will be over soon. School is nearing the end, you'll both be graduating in June. And you'll both have a baby...you've gone so far, so please, don't give up now. I'm proud of you, Red..." She reached out and brushed his fair blonde hair behind his cold ears. "It will all be okay. Just never give up..." Noticing the security guard walking up to them, she gave him a polite hello and waved goodbye to the boys. "See you guys later."

Red bowed his head into Blue's chest; he got a very positive flutter of appreciation in his tummy, and wanted to cry with joy now. But he felt Blue give him a tiny shake, and the two of them proceded to walk down the hallway behind the guard. Red never took his head out of Blue's chest, and Blue never let his arm drop from around Red.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-. -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-

"Look at all you brave, young women," the instuctor gracefully walked around the circle of people sitting down on the floor, their legs crossed. "You have been through a long journey, but this is just the beginning of a new one: child birth."

Blue rolled his eyes and sighed as he observed the room. Too bright and cheerful for something so gross.

"Child birth is a long process for all. And yes, it's scary...but the end result is beautiful, and you are here to learn how to make your child birth experience the best it can be."

The woman's words were touching, but all the expecting mothers in the room, as well as the expecting fathers, couldn't help but share confusing and disgusting glances at the teen couple sitting right in the middle of the circle of parents. Red concluded this was worse than all his classes at school put together.

The women could not stop looking at him. They would pay attention to the instructor's words for a few seconds, then their attention would daze out and soon would be silently judging him and Blue. Same for the fathers. Red really tried to pay attention. Blue was ordered to sit behind Red and place his hands over Red's stomach; like the other couples. This was really awkward. Red just wanted to go home.

"They're just jealous of your dashing looks." Blue mumbled in Red's ear when he noticed his boyfriend began to grow limp in his arms. "Fuck them."

Red bit his bottom lip to keep from giggling but then he saw the insructor's feet right in front of him. His eyes trailed up the woman's body and he shyly made eye contact. "H-hello."

"Hi there." The woman grinned widly. "I notice you're, uh...," it was her time to scan Red's body up and down, "..i-in a different situation than the other women. SO! I have desinged a seperate lesson just for the two of you...but don't worry, you won't be excluded from most the activities." She shared another smile. "Congradulations."

She said nothing else and walked away to another couple, more enthusiastically.

"I feel sick," Red groaned and slumped into Blue. He just wanted to have the baby already.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-. -.-.-.-.-

Sunday night at dinner. Red sat across his mother, silenty picking at his corn. His mother cut into her steak delicately, and ate just as quietly.

It was the middle of March. Winter was almost over, but there was nothing happening besides the birth classes. No events in school, no major tests. Nothing happening means no conversation with his mother, which was difficult enough already.

But she was the first to break the silence.

"So..." She slowly began, after swallowing her food, "...It's almost the last week of March."

Red separated the lima beans from his corn. "Yeah." He stare blankly at his food. Nothing happened today, but he still felt exhausted.

"...Is nothing going to happened during the last week of March?" His mother asked more forwardly, with a mocking tone.

"I don't know," Red mumbled and nibbled on a few pieces of the vegetable.

His mother raised an eye brow and looked up at him without lifting her head, then paying her attention back to her meal. "Really now? If I recall..."

She suddenly stood up from her seat and walked over to a brown bag sitting against the wall in the back of the kitchen. Red did a double take, and watched her curiously as she pulled out a nicely wrapped rectangular item, the perfect crimson bow immediately catching his eye. "Huh?"

"...On March 25th, 18 years ago...I had a son."

She placed the present in front of Red and gave him a shallow hug. "Happy brithday, Red. I know it's not until Thursday, but I'll be working late all this week. So I'm giving it to you earlier."

Red honestly felt touched. First, he completely forgot his birthday was approaching. He lost track of the days. And his mother actualy went out of her way to go out and buy something for him? I guess she still does like him. Love being the maximum amount.

"Mom, you shouldn't have..." Red gave her a lopsided smile and tore open the paper. His eyes widen and he wasn't sure if he was still smiling or not.

He held in front of him a thick paperback book. "How To Raise A Smart Baby".

"Could you believe it? It was on sale for only 4.99!"

A tiny part of Red hoped it would be something not baby related, and really focused on him for once. It was the thought that counts though, right?

"Thanks, Mom."

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-. -.-

Red walked out the back doors of the school hand in hand with Blue, and froze when they walked up to a tiny, neon green beetle car.

"It's so cute." Red coo'd and playfully nudged Blue in the arm.

"Shut up," Blue smirked and opened the passenger door for Red. "My old man is working on the truck, so we're renting this stupid thing for a week.

Red snuggled into the comfty seat and buckled himself in, before giving Blue a confused look. "Your dad can fix cars by himself? He doesn't take it to a shop?"

Rolling his eyes, Blue buckled himself in as well and quickly drove out of the parking lot and onto the highway. "Nah, he says he doesn't trust random people touching his shit. And it costs too much money."

"And renting a car is cheap?" Red grinned and rested his head onto Blue's shoulder as he drove, noticing there was enough space to scoot close enough to him. As soon as they arrived to Blue's house, Red saw his father laying on his back, underneath the car and covered in oil and dirt. "He must be so tired!"

Blue chuckled and got out of the car. "Please, nothing can slow him down. Good afternoon, Richard!"

Hearing his name being called, Blue's father wheeled himself out from underneath the car and smirked at the sight of his son and boyfriend. "What's up, fag." He hollored back and Blue jokingly kicked him in his side. "Words heard, Richard."

"Aw shuddup." The old man cringed as he sat up and pulled himself on his feet. "What're you kids up to, huh? Studyin'? Or somethin' else?" He cackled as Blue flipped him off and helped Red inside. "Screw you."

"With PLEASURE!" His father hooted and wiped his forehead with an unclean rag. "By the way, kid, I'm going out for drinks tonight with some friends, so don't expect me to be home 'till late, got it?"

Blue gave his father a sarcastic thumbs up but eventually gave him a gunien smile. "Whatever. You smell anyway...have fun."

Red went inside the house and walked down the stairs to Blue's apartment, giggling. "I love your dad." He turned to face Blue once he reached the bottom. "He's always in such a good mood."

"Because he's got nothing to be sad about!" Blue laughed and got himself a beer from the mini fridge as Red took a seat on the pullout couch. "So...If I remember correctly, It'll be your birthday tomorrow..."

Blue smirked as Red began to blush and looked away from his boyfriend. "How about we get an early start."

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-. -.-.-.-.-.-.-

It was snowing again. Red just wished it would get warmer already. He was sick it covering himself in large, unattractive sweaters. But at least it was his 18th birthday.

Deep down, Red didn't care if no one noticed him on his birthday. It wouldn't be different than any other day for most people. He just wanted to hear those two words from Blue, and he will be happy. Blue was the first person he texted that morning, but he never responded. Red just asumed he was still sleeping and got ready for school.

But Blue wasn't in school either. Now Red got anxious. He began thinknig of near to impossible reasons for Blue to be out. Maybe he was ordered to work today instead of gonig to school? Maybe he got a really bad flu? Or he really did over slept...but Red still got no text throughout the day. And he had to go to classes today.

This was't such a great birthday. Red now wished people noticed him just for today.

After classes, Red was now frustrated than worried. Out of all the days to be out, Blue had to pick his birthday. He may sound selfish, but it's once in his life he'll be turning 18, the one day where he felt like he mattered. And no one wished him a happy birthday.

The young man was now huddling under the gutter of the building where he took his classes, avoiding the snow. He kept dialing Blue's phone and he wouldn't pick up. After his 20th try today, Red gave up. He was out of ideas. And he had no ride home. Sitting on a bench in the middle of the snow, Red uncomfortably sat with his legs up and head bowed down; protected by his hat, scarf and clothes.

Then Red felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. He jumped when he felt it and his numb fingers fumbled to turn it on; the last text message he sent Blue was a very straightforward, demanding "Where are you?!"

"B-Blue," Red sniffed and blinked away his frozen tears, "you better..have a good reason..."

Red read the text message and his heart dropped. The baby in his stomach began to kick.
