Shallow Sleep

Chapter 5: My Angel's Demonds
"Mamoru-kun, we need to talk. I need to tell you something very important." Motoki began, feeling the fear and anxiety fill him. "It's about Usagi."
Mamoru froze when he heard Motoki utter Usagi's name. Did she tell him that he broke up with her? Was she safe? Did something happen to her? A million scenarios raced through his mind like a movie when he was cut by Motoki who called his attention.
"Oi, Mamoru-kun,"
Mamoru's head slightly jolted, bringing him back to the present. "Hai. I'm still here Motoki. Listen," He began. "Usagi and I..."
A loud sigh. "I know that you broke up with her Mamoru. She told me everything." He stated. "What I don't understand is why. Anyone could see how much you really love her. That she brightens up your day..."
Mamoru pressed the red button, cutting off Motoki's call. All the things that Motoki said and was about to say deeply wounded him even more. He knew that Usagi was his sunshine, but he was the opposite. He was darkness. A smirk crossed his lips. ~Maybe my darkness is too much that it will later on engulf the brightness and sunlight Usako bring.~ He held his head up as tears streaked down his face. ~It's better this way.~
"What the..." Motoki looked at his phone as the sound of the call being cut echoed out. He redialed Mamoru's cellphone number, but this time, all he got was the sound of the recorded voice from the network informing him that the subscriber can no longer be reached. Feeling frustrated and annoyed, he showed the phone down his pocket and proceeded to head towards the cafeteria. He was going to deal with his stubborn friend later, that he promised himself.
Meanwhile, Usagi sat up on her bed and watched the setting of the sun. The leaves, grass and everything else was damp and it felt humid, but she didn't mind. The sunset was just too beautiful to pass up. Usagi placed her hand on the window, a frown upon her lips. ~My own sunset is about to come. I wonder if I'm ready for it.~ Suddenly, she felt a deep piercing pain on her head. She placed both hands on her head, squeezing her head as if to stop the pain. She let out a grunt, trying to stop herself from screaming from the pain, but it was useless when she finally let out a loud cry.
Her cry alerted a passing by nurse who opened the door and saw Usagi's state. She quickly alerted the other nurses to call for Doctor Tomoe and to have a sedating drug ready.
The pain was become worse as the seconds slowly ticked away. The young nurse had difficulty restraining Usagi and this indicated the level of pain she was feeling. Suddenly, Doctor Tomoe and a team of nurses rushed to aid her. They pinned Usagi down while one nurse injected the sedating drug on her IV. Slowly, but surely, Usagi calmed down.
Doctor Tomoe looked worriedly at Usagi who was breathing heavily due to exhaustion. "Tsukino-san, how do you feel now?" He asked, worry laced his voice.
While still dazed and her head throbbing from the pain, she said, "My head hurts isha..."
Doctor Tomoe removed his glasses and rubbed the temple of his nose. ~This can't be good.~ He thought to himself. "Have you had headaches like this before?" Usagi shook her head. "Alright then. I will have you undergo MRI to find out the cause of your headache. Let us hope that this is just due to stress."
Usagi looked up at the ceiling feeling drugged. She never had these headaches before...so why now? She closed her eyes tight, stopping her tears from falling. ~Please let this be nothing. I don't know how I can handle another illness Kami-sama...~ She begged in her thoughts.
That night, Mamoru drugged himself to sleep. He needed at least two sleeping pills to get him to bed even if he knew the nightmares would come. Mamoru was already deep in his sleep and was expecting hi recurring nightmare, but he felt that somehow, this dream was different.
It was evening and he found himself in a crisp black tuxedo with a mask covering his eyes. He was standing at the footsteps of a magnificent mansion of which eh wasn't familiar with. He walked up the red carpeted steps which lead to the entrance of the mansion. There, the carpeted flooring continued. He saw couples walking arm in arm, giggling and having fun. He continued walking until someone caught his attention. He looked up and saw a golden haired young lady done in two buns. He could see the sadness that filled her eyes. His heart stopped beating at the sight of his beautiful princess.
He was about to approach her when tears trickled down her cheeks. She made no effort to wipe them away. He felt a pang of pain in his chest. Was he the cause of those tears? Was it his fault even in his dream? He looked up again and saw her standing at the ledge of the window. ~NO!~ He thought.
He quickly ran up at the stairs in a desperate attempt to get to her even before she could perform her plan. She stretched out her hands and muttered something he could not hear. He was about to grab her gown when she pushed herself off the ledge.
"USAKO!" He cried as he grabbed nothing in thin air. He watched in horror as her body slowly plummeted to the ground.
"There is nothing you can do to stop death Mamoru-san." She whispered with a smile as her body fell on the ground without a sound. Blood trickled down the side of her lips. She smiled. "Aishiteru Mamo-chan...forever my love." And with those words, she clasped her hands together and closed her eyes.
The whole room was engulfed in blinding white light as he creamed in horror at what he has just witnessed when he suddenly felt the gentle touch of a feather. He looked up and saw hundreds and hundreds of white feathers falling from the sky. He brought his hand up to his eyes to shield it from the blinding light. A figure emerged.
She flapped her wings as she floated inches away from him. "Now, you will never be alone anymore Mamo-chan." She cheerfully said, placing her right hand on his chest. "I will always be here with you, and" She pointed up at the blinding sky. "Up there, watching over you. I promised you that you will never be alone, and I will keep that promise."
Mamoru hugged Usagi tightly, but she disappeared, leaving feathers floating in her place. ~ You cannot stop what has already been destined Mamo-chan. It is my destiny to leave, and yours to stay. ~ He heard her speak in his mind.
"What do you mean it is your destiny to leave?" He asked with panic in his voice.
"Death"
Mamoru bolted up from his sleep sweat covered his entire body. His dream felt all too real. He placed a hand on his forehead and sighed deeply and felt his heart race.
~ Didn't Motoki mention a while ago something about Usako?~ He questioned himself. Mamoru looked at his bedside clock and saw that it was past two in the morning. He quickly picked up his phone and dialed Motoki's number. It rang but no one answered. He tried over and over again until on his 8th try, he was able to get a hold of Motoki.
"Moshi moshi." A groggy voice answered.
"Motoki, it's me"
"Do you have any idea what time it is? I could murder you for calling at this ungodly hour."
"What happened to Usagi?"
Upon hearing the question, Motoki sat up wide awake, but was at a loss for words to answer his friend.
"Motoki, what happened to Usagi?" He heard Mamoru ask one more time, this time his tone was very impatient.
"She's gone Mamoru." Was all Motoki could say.
And that ends this chapter. I'm already working on the next chapter so be sure to stay tuned. As always, don't forget to let me know what you think.
