"So a doctor that hates orange. How do you get through fall." He tease as they dance to the song. She follows his lead and laughs softly.

"I skip to winter." She tells hims as the gracefully dance.

"Why do you hate orange?" He asks her. He feels her tense up and he stops their movements to look at her.

"I um... My dad... He um... He used to eat oranges all the time." She says. He watches as a string of emotions fly across her face and he feels guilty.

"Liv, I'm sorry I didn't mean to hit a nerve." He apologizes.

"It's not like you knew." Olivia says as she removes her hand from his.
"I'm going to go sit." She tells him before walking away. He watches as she picks up a glass of champagne from a waiters tray before sliding into her seat. She sips the champagne while her thoughts run through her head. Her father, and the stupid hold he still has on her. She hasn't seen or talked to him since before medical school, but some how he still has this hold on her.

"Care to share." A voice says from behind her and she turns her head to man in a navy uniform with a smile worth a million dollars. He walks over and takes the seat across from her.

"Jake Ballard." He offers his hand but she just looks at him.

"I'm sorry do I know you?" Olivia asks as she starts scanning the room for Fitz.

"No, but I would love it if we got to know each other." He says with a smile and she just shakes her head and stands.

"I'm sorry, I'm here with someone." She says picking up her clutch and desperately trying to find Fitz.

"Well my loss I suppose." Jake says standing up and smiling. "It was nice to chat with you." He says before walking to the bar. Olivia lets out the breath she was holding before calming herself and looking out across the room again. She finally finds Fitz standing with a few politicians as they talk and he listens, but his mind seems to be wandering. She watches as he is fixated on his shoes and she starts to make her way over to him. When she reaches him she slides her hand into his and he immediately looks up and she smiles at him.

"I'm sorry senator, can I borrow him for a second." The senator smiles and nods before Olivia pulls Fitz away and takes him outside. She lets go of his hand and walks over to the railing of the balcony and takes a deep breath before turning to face him.

"I didn't mean to just walk away like that." Olivia says to him as he watches her carefully. The moonlight doesn't do a great job hiding the sadness in her face as she talks.

"Yes you did. But it's ok." Fitz says after a minute. She turns back around and Fitz stays in his spot. They are quite. The sound of laughter from the inside can be heard as the wind blows softly. It's peaceful, but it's only covering up reality. The reality of the internal struggle in both of them. Fitz wanting to ask and Olivia wanting to tell, but neither of them brave enough to come forward. The wind continues to blow and Fitz takes off his jacket and drapes it over Olivia's shoulders before standing next to her and looking out over the landscape.

"Thank you." She whispers as she pulls it around herself tighter. Fitz just gives a simple nod and the silence returns between them.

"My father- he wasn't a good guy." Olivia finally says and Fitz turns his head letting her find her voice and continue talking. "He used to get angry very easily. Something my mom would say, or even just a wrong movement would set him off, and once he started he didn't stop until we were all crying and hurt. After he would sit down in his chair and eat and orange. After I graduated my mom left him and took my sister. He was so angry." Olivia stops and pulls Fitz's jacket off and slides her dress strap down showing a light but long scar.

"He came to my dorm room demanding to know where they went. I told him I didn't know where they were. So he took a bottle and smashed it across my side and left. I haven't seen him since." Olivia confesses and Fitz runs his thumb across her scar.

"You know what I think?" She turns her head not hiding the tears.

"I think you are the most beautiful soul I've ever met, and someone who had the audacity to try to take that away from you, is foolish." Olivia laughs and lets the tears flow.

"That's exactly the opposite of what I thought you were going to say." Fitz pulls Olivia into his chest and slips her dress back on to her shoulder and pull his jacket back over her. She pulls back and wipes her eyes carefully.

"We should go back in. People might be looking for you." Olivia says as she starts to slide his jacket of of her.

"I could care less about them." Fitz says and Olivia laughs.

"Come on Romeo." Olivia helps him put his jacket back on before smoothing out wrinkles on his chest.

"Thank you for listening." She whispers before reaching up and kissing his cheek. He smiles and nods.

"Of course." She smiles at his words before taking his hand and pulling him back into the ballroom.
