The Date

Fireflies.

Fireflies freckled the night sky, their little lights flickering like the silver stars above her head. Deirdre sighed as she leaned back on her hands, her hair falling down her back and over her shoulders in a river of light brown waves. Canine like gray orbs gazed up at the semi full moon painted in the violet sky. The woman inhaled and then sighed as her eyes gently slid shut, her head then rose to reach the moon above her as she basked in its glow.

He teleported beside the fountain, just behind the woman sitting and basking in the moon's glow. He sighed and gazed upon her from a distant. Holding his breath he crossed around the fountain, his fingers gently brushed the stone base of the fountain as he glided toward her. He reached his hand up to the hologram simulator on his person and turned it on. In an instant his image was altered to show a typical man with short shaggy black hair and blue eyes. He came upon her, his breath caught within him as gazed on her, sitting and basking in the moon's light. She was a sight to see, a beauty he beheld within his gaze.

"Deirdre…" He called softly coming up to her and nervously standing to her side.

He gazed down at her and blushed. The moon touched her pale skin resonating it with a gorgeous aura. He swallowed nervously, and shuffled his weight to one side.

She smiled softly when he approached, her head lowering from the sight of the moon as gray orbs came to study the creature before her. He was hiding again, behind the façade of who he wished he was. She frowned for only a moment, she could not fathom the reason behind his loathing of who he was. Why hide behind a false image? Why hide at all?

She understood the need for the simulator out in 'normal' society. His demon image would cause uproar amongst the human society if he were to walk casually out in the open and away from the safe walls of the institute. Humans had always been known to hate and fear people they knew nothing about, but when around her, around the institute, why bother fronting a falsehood? She sighed and stood, her body lifting elegantly up from her stone perch. She smiled warmly toward Kurt, and slowly reached a palm to his chest.

"Kurt…" She announced running her fingers along his form till she found the simulator. She switched it off and quickly pulled back from him.

Kurt stood stunned, his face lit up in a blush. He struggled to keep his breath stable while her fingers brushed against him. Everywhere she touched his skin heated, and he found himself unable to move his gaze from her slender fingers as they traveled a path toward his simulator. He sighed when she pulled away from him, and then slowly looked down at his hands that were now 'deformed'.

Three digits, not five. Three…Two fingers one thump, not four fingers and one thump. Not like hers, not like her slender fingers, his were the hands of a demon. He sighed again and looked up to where Deirdre smiled up at him.

"There," she announced slipping her fingers between his. "Really Kurt, you need to stop hiding behind that hologram thing of yours when with me." She smiled up to him and then turned away, pulling him along with her as she walked away from the fountain.

"But…" Nightcrawler stammered.

"No buts Kurt," She ended with a sigh.

She stopped, halting quickly and causing Kurt to run up on her. She turned her gaze on him, turning her body to face his. "Listen here," She began shutting her eyes and slipping her hand from his. "I like you Kurt," She locked his gaze with hers. "I like you," she extended a lithe finger and pressed it above his heart. "Blue fur and all."

He blushed, "You couldn't…"

"And why not?" She growled, "Why is it so strange for me to like you?" She began, "is it strange for me to want to be more then friends?"

Kurt's blush deepened, "I…" He lifted his hands and held them out to her.

She sighed and took them in hers. She lifted his hands to her lips and gently pressed them against his knuckles. "Stop being so damn stubborn…" She said gazing up at him through her bangs, let me fall for you… Her mind echoed. She sighed and lowered his hand, slipping them free from her fingers they dropped back to Kurt's side. She kept her gaze on him, and smiled. "Come on Kurt, I wanted to spend some time with you…" She moved forward, Kurt following slowly behind her.

She laughed, spun, and danced beneath the night sky. It was a change of mood, a happy, joyful mood. He watched her dance a head of him, her arms spread out from her side as she spun around and then fell. She laughed, giggled and gazed up at him with childlike glee. He blushed, and then laughed. He felt her joy seep into him, felt her compassion, her love, felt everything she was feeling. He felt happiness.

One night, just this one night he did not feel uneasy, sad, or lonely. He was happy. It was as if the emptiness within him had been filled. He looked down at her sprawl form on the ground, her grin shining up at him.

"Kurt!" She exclaimed, sitting up and latching her hands around his wrists. She pulled him down with her, forcing him to lay beside her.

He laughed as he landed on his knees, his hands catching his body as she forced him down.

"Good, I was wondering when you'd join me."

Kurt smiled, "I vasen't planning to." He said with a smile, his German accent altering the sound of his words.

Deirdre smiled, and Kurt turned over to lay on his back. He gazed up at the stars above them, and then turned his sight over to her. Deirdre met his glance with her own.

"I'm glade you came…" She told him turning her gaze back up to the stars, "I was worried…"

"Vhy?"

Deirdre smirked, "I was worried you wouldn't…or didn't like me enough to come…"

Kurt blinked, and then laughed. "That's far from the truth," He exclaimed resting his hands to his side.

Deirdre smiled and slowly moved her hand to tangle with his. She held it, but kept her gaze plastered upon the stars.

"I'm glade…"

Kurt smiled as he studied their hands. He inhaled and then exhaled, and slowly returned his gaze back up to the stars. The two laid there in silence for a few more moments until Kurt turned to face Deirdre. He squeezed her hand to get her attention, and with a smile finally said.

"So am I."
