Getting to Know You

Once they left the simulation room, the two couples spent a few hours talking amongst each other, they spoke about future plans, about their training and how hard it was to control or master their mutant abilities. Soon, however, as night began to creep up on them, the two couples said their goodbyes and left each other in the company of their partners. Deirdre and Kurt walked side by side, quietly at first, down a hallway leading them outside.

"Ever notice that we always find ourselves outside, at night?" Deirdre had asked Kurt as they took their leave from the mansion and began to walk beneath the night sky.

Kurt smiled and gently wrapped his hand around hers, "It gives us privacy." He replied smiling as he led her toward a bench.

The two sat down, releasing each other's hands and resting their own at their sides.

"Deirdre…" Kurt whispered carefully.

"Hmm?" She asked glancing up at him.

"It's been three veeks now since we've made this relationship official."

"Yeah, and?" She asked leaning forward slightly, and placing her arms on her legs.

"Yet ve hardly know anything about each other…"

Deirdre laughed and smiled up at him, "Well you never seem to ask me anything about myself." She stuck her tongue out at him, "and I never bother to ask, cause I…" She grinned, "Already know things about you that I want to know." She leaned back, her hands holding her from falling off the bench. "But if there is something you want to share with me, go a head." She eyed him, "and you may ask me questions too." She smiled.

Kurt joined her in a smile, but then softly frowned. "Are you willing to tell me about your parents?" He asked slowly.

Deirdre's joy slowly fell away, "Well…" She began looking up at the sky. She sighed, "They were both mutants…" She began gliding her gaze toward Kurt.

"So your abilities?" He asked carefully.

"My mother was an empath and my father was a shifter," She explained. "I was born with my mother's gift, her empathic abilities were past down onto me, however…" She smiled warmly, "my father's ability was also passed down to me as well, though it is altered to fit with my empathic powers…"

"Like how you can only shift into animals you have made an empathic connection to?"

Deirdre smiled, "Yep."

"Your parents, vhat happened to them?" He asked.

"They were killed in a car crash," she lied.

"I'm sorry…"

Deirdre smiled, "No, it's alright." She begun smiling up at him and leaning her head against his shoulder, "they died when I was young, I hardly remember them…" She lied again. "What about yours?" She asked glancing up at him from his shoulder.

Kurt seemed to stiffen when the question of his parents came up. Deirdre could sense that much, and almost wished she hadn't asked him. She softly sighed and gently placed a hand on his leg, and as Kurt felt her hand on him he relaxed, but she could still feel and see tension outlining him.

"You don't have to tell me…"

"Nein," he began. "I vant you to know everything there is about me Deirdre," he said gripping her hand at his leg and then looking up at the stars. "My parents are two mutants…" He began, "both have been my enemies…" Kurt looked down at the ground, his hand gripping Deirdre's even more as he brought up the memories.

Deirdre breathed in as she tried to fight back the overpowering emotions venturing out from Kurt as he explored the tale of his parents.

"Mystique…" he began, "you've met her two weeks ago…"

"The shifter?" Deirdre asked picturing the blue woman in her mind. She compared her to Kurt, and then blinked.

"Yes," he answered. "She's my mother…"

"And your father?"

"A demon," he growled.

Deirdre tilted her head in a canine fashion, "What do you mean?"

He gazed down at her, and for the first time she saw and felt a burning hatred raise up from him. She shivered and backed an inch away, turning her gaze up toward the sky. She breathed in as she fought back the intense feeling of his hatred that slowly ate at her.

Kurt turned his gaze from her, "His name is Azazel."

Azazel! Her mind screamed as shock raced within her blood. She glanced toward Kurt, wide eyed with shock. "Azazel?" She asked softly as the image of the crimson skinned demon rose within her mind.

"Yes," he growled. "My father, used me and all his other children as keys to open a portal that vould release him and his men from the dimension the were imprisoned."

She could feel the hatred seep out of him when he spoke of Azazel. She knew of the man Kurt spoke of, knew him well, knew him so well that she did not find it a surprise that the demon would use his own children as pawns. For was she not but a pawn to him as well?

Deirdre sighed and clasped her hand around Kurt's and brought herself close to him. She nuzzled his arm gently, "I'm sorry…" She whispered into his clothing, "I'm so sorry…"

She shook in sadness, tears slowly falling from her cheeks. She felt his sudden shock of her tears, felt as his arms went around her in comfort. She knew crying was foolish, knew it all to well, but she felt Kurt's pain, felt his hatred, and it just made her want to cry. She knew his father, knew that the two were related somehow. The familiarity of the two when she first met Kurt, though two different beings, Deirdre knew. She knew Azazel was Kurt's father, she just did not connect or allow it to be real until Kurt told her about their relations himself. Her tears ran deep, ran fast along her face as fear seized at her heart. What if he found out about her relationship with Azazel, knew of her loyalty to the man who would be his enemy. Deirdre swallowed hard on her tears and gasped for breath. How would he react to the truth?

Kurt held Deirdre tightly as she cried within his arms, "Deirdre?" He asked softly, his voice calm and without the anger that the memories of his parents brought him. She shook in his arms, tears soaking his clothing. He held her tighter, "Libeling…" He whispered.

She hiccupped and buried herself deeper into his arms, "I-I'm sorry…" She managed to say between gulps of air, "I'm a damn empath!" She defended herself.

Kurt smiled and held back a chuckle, "I know." He said brushing his fingers through her hair.

"It makes me emotional sometimes…" she explained, "Because I can feel other people's emotions…" She sighed and slowly pulled away from him, bringing her gaze to meet his. "Sometimes I can become overwhelmed and will…" She sighed and covered her face with her hand, "I'd break down, or lash out. Depends really on my relationship with the person whose emotions I'm experiencing…"

"And I've brought tears to your eyes…" He said sadly.

Deirdre smiled, "It's alright Kurt." She said frowning slightly, "I…" She sighed, but then smiled once more. "It's alright Kurt." She laughed, "Look you've learned something more about me." She grinned, smirked, and then said. "I'm an emotional roller coaster." She moved her hands out in front of her, exaggerating her words.

Kurt laughed, and then stood up pulling her with him. "Come, I vant to take you some place."

"Where?" She asked allowing herself to be pulled into his arms.

"You'll see…" and he teleported, leaving behind a small cloud that smelled of brimstone.
