I'm so sorry for a late update, but I'm glad to find everyone (hopefully) still enjoying this story! I have to say that there will only be a few more chapters to this (meaning anywhere from five to ten). To get a better visual of this chapter, I would suggest familiarizing yourself with this picture, it'll help. :)
Enjoy!
The four Detectives and one Lieutenant made their way to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
"All right," Brenda started, "We have a body somewhere here. Shall we divide and conquer?"
The men nodded their approvals (Provenza gave her a sly smile and a dreamy look). Sharon rolled her eyes but she had to agree. They grabbed their guns and prepared to enter the Coliseum. Sharon entered first, moving into the peristyle. The darkness that enveloped her had Andy right behind her in seconds. She pulled out her flashlight and the light flooded her way.
"We'll take the right," Flynn whispered as led Sharon down a concrete hall. Brenda nodded and headed straight the field. Provenza and Tao took the right wing.
Sharon rolled her eyes in annoyance and picked up her pace. She led the way down the hall. They took a turn down the hall, still no sign of a body. Sharon stumbled slightly and grasped the wall for support, Andy rushed to hold her elbow in support.
"I'm alright," Sharon mumbled, quickly righting herself and continuing down the hall.
"Here we go," Andy muttered, flipping on the stadium lights.
…
Brenda's light, which had been thoroughly examining the rows of the Coliseum blended to the lights of the stadium. There was a flicker up in the Press Box that Brenda noticed and took towards.
…
"Let's go through the rows," Sharon said unhappily, "There obviously isn't anyone in the halls." Andy looked in the direction Sharon was, seeing Provenza and Tao enter the field with a shake of their heads.
…
Brenda climbed over seat after seat until she made it to exactly where the flicker had occurred. Above the Press Box, there wire which hung from one of the light fixtures.
"Ooh!" Brenda whined looking to see the detectives focused on searching the seats. "Why must I be the only bright one in this group?" Tucking her gun into her holster, Brenda climbed more seats till she was level with the top of the Press Box. Carefully climbing onto the roof, Brenda spotted the dummy attached and hanging by a wire. She made quick work with the knot, and sent the dummy sailing from the Press Box roof. It swung from the light fixture and headed towards the searching Detectives. Smiling slyly, Brenda watched as the dummy hit Sharon and sent her into one of the stadium seats.
"Found the body!"
…
"Sharon," Andy whispered as he helped her up, "Are you okay?"
"Fine," She let out briskly as she watched the blonde climb to the field.
"Detective Montgomery, would you mind calling your firefighter man to have him take down this body?" Brenda asked as she stood underneath the hanging dummy. Andy hastily made sure Sharon was all right before backing away. If she had another man's number, he had already lost her.
Sharon pulled out the business card with the firefighter's cell number on the back. Sharon made quick, and called the man who answered on the first ring.
"Detective?" The fireman answered.
"How did you know it was me?" A surprised Sharon asked.
"You're the only one I've given my cell number to in the past year," The fireman shrugged on his end, "Lucky guess. Anything I can do for you?"
"Oh, yes. I was, um, wondering if you could come to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and help the division and I with a dummy?" Sharon asked hesitantly, this was the first time she had felt butterflies in her stomach and nervousness in her speech.
"No problem. As long as you promise me a dinner for my work?" The fireman asked with a bit of hope in the words.
"Let's see how well you do that work," Sharon said, quickly saying a polite goodbye before hanging up.
"Don't you just love men who are at your beck and call?" Brenda teased throwing a sideways glance to a jealous Andy.
Sharon didn't answer that.
…
With the dummy down and examined, it was placed into the back of Provenza's car and driven back with the rest of the division. Sharon muttered her arrival time to PD; delayed because she wanted to say a goodbye to the fireman who helped out. Andy left her and didn't look back. She obviously made her choice.
"I just wanted to quickly thank you for coming out to help with this task," Sharon said with a small smile as her hands nervously sought out her pockets.
"It is a pleasure to be on your call for help list," the fireman said with a smirk. "Is there any possibility I could take you out to dinner one night?"
Sharon's smile faltered before she replied, "I don't think it would be a good idea. But if you ever need a Detective for any reason, I could help." The fireman gave and understanding nod, and lifted his hat as he backed away.
"I'll take you up on that."
…
Upon entering the murder room, Sharon noticed the downcast gaze from Andy and a profile on the victim.
"It was a suicide," Provenza pointed out, "There is a thousand reasons why the victim died."
Sharon nodded and took her seat. Andy looked up at her and flashed a shy smile, which he returned with a look of disgust. He turned to face the Lieutenant and the white board.
"How was the fireman, Detective?" Brenda asked with a smirk.
"Unlike you, Lieutenant," Sharon said with distaste, "I don't kiss and tell."
"I can right you up for insubordination."
"At least everyone here knows I worked hard for my job. What they don't all know is that you got yours the old fashioned way: by sleeping with the boss," Sharon let that sink in.
"You slept with Pope for a spot that is should be rightfully Sharon's?" Andy admonished.
Provenza found this news interesting enough to put down his crossword puzzle.
Brenda could see, her title now meant nothing to them, since it wasn't earned.
