Well, I finished the chapter today so I thought it'd be a good idea to post this as soon as I could! I really enjoyed this chapter because this chapter is where it gets really interesting. If this is all it took to interest you than I encourage you to read it. My only hope is that you thoroughly enjoy this, and that it's long enough for MissUzuki's standards. XD
Please enjoy this chapter.
After dressing his master, and telling him his agenda the manor was once again set in it's usual routine. At this very moment the earl was in his study, completing his endless stacks of paperwork, the maid was out hanging up damp laundry, the gardener was in the garden, the butler was managing the Funtom Company's finances, while the chef was in the kitchen, beginning the preparations for his master's lunch.
"Mei-Rin told me that you'd like to speak with me." The sound of clicking shoes came to a gentle halt as Cecilia, the one responsible for creating such noise, entered the kitchen. When the chef neglected to respond to her, she added. "What seems to be the matter?"
"You." Bard replied aggressively.
"I beg your pardon?" The female questioned, startled by the chef's response.
"I don't trust you." He hissed with eyes glaring down upon the woman, "Or Sebastian either!" Crossing his arms across his chest, Bard continued, "You're both hiding something from us, aren't you. Tell me what it is and I'll consider keeping you untorched."
"Untorched?" Cecila pondered, "Is that even a word? Or did you just make that up on the spot?"
"It doesn't matter now does it?" The chef continued to speak in displeasure, "Tell me about Sebastian's past." The atmosphere around the two changed into a tense and dark place as Bard barked his command. Cecilia was staying silent, keeping her head resting in her open hand. Her weight shifted from foot to foot countless times, her mind still wanting to play games with the chef.
"Well," she sighed after nearly 10 minutes of silence, "I'm sorry, but there really isn't much I can tell you."
...
"Young master." With a silver tray in hand Sebastian entered the study.
"What is it now?" Frustrated from being distracted from his tedious work, the young earl began to growl impatiently.
"You have received a letter from Her Majesty, the Queen." The piece of paper Ciel had in his hand was neatly placed away within that instant.
"Shall I open it for you young master?" The raven haired demon asked with courtesy.
"You might as well." His lord replied.
"And shall I read it to you as well?" He asked once the sealed envelope was broken.
"I think not!" retorted the Earl, "I can read on my own, you mongrel. You and your humorless tactics are excused. Leave my sight." With nothing more than a simple bow the loyal dog obeyed his master's orders. "What could Her Majesty want at this time of year?" He asked himself as his visible eye read the words written on the page.
My Dearest Boy,
How is Spring treating you this year? Is full of warmth and peace like I have always hoped? The flowers are in full bloom at the Buckingham Palace, and Albert and I are having the grandest of time every afternoon in our rose garden. You must come see their beauty for yourself. Perhaps in the near future if you're not too busy.
However, despite the flowers and their natural beauty there seems to be hidden darkness lurking within my streets. Children are missing from their homes, and none have been returned since. Though I was never a mother myself, I can still hear their parents crying out for them to return. I can feel those hearts breaking and ache from the misery of losing their own young. I hope you can bring some right into this world, and bring the children back to families that miss them. Please do your best. I'm counting on you.
Yours truly,
Victoria
After reading the short letter countless of times Ciel found himself resting his head on the desk. Sighs continued to leave him, but ease didn't lift from his shoulders.
"Sebastian." He muttered, "Get back here."
"Is there something I can help you with, young master?" The summoned butler said not a moment to soon.
"We have an assignment from The Queen." He said, raising his head from his folded arms, "Prepare the carriage, we leave within the hour."
"But of course, my lord."
...
"How long will you be gone?" With the carriage almost ready to depart Cecilia leaned against the stone walls of the stable; watching her husband complete his tasks.
"I do not know." He responded with a blunt answer.
"Where are you going?"
"I do not know."
"Is there anything that you do know?" She asked as she stubbornly crossed her arms.
"You are staying here." Sebastian said.
"And be stuck with those imbeciles?! I think not!" Cecila replied, ending her sentence with a well dignified scoff.
"It's for the best." The eldest sibling replied as he secured the luggage tightly on top of the roof.
"But I can be a great asset to the mission!" She proclaimed.
"For starters, raise your voice. You sound like a male."
"You've never had a problem with my voice!" The insulted female growled.
"When we're in Hell." He reminded, "But we're on Earth now, and males and females have different voice ranges."
"Then how's this?" She asked, her voice slightly higher than before.
"Not high enough."
"Then how about this?" She spoke once again with a different voice, one resembling of an average woman.
"That will suffice." He replied swiftly, "Just say you have gotten over a cold."
"What is a cold, dearest brother?" Cecilia asked with a slight tilt of her head.
"It is a common illness amongst humans." When he saw the confused expression in her eyes Sebastian added. "Only the young master knows of my true identity."
"I see." She hummed, "So that means he knows my identity as well?"
"Correct." The faint sound of shoes could be heard by both demon's well defined ears, "Let's continue this conversation later." He added, stopping the conversation in it's tracks.
"So I can accompany you two?"
"No."
"But I still want to join you!"
"Absolutely not." Sebastian said, still keeping his foot down on the matter. The sounds of someone walking came to an end, close to their location. Both knew there was an eavesdropper in their sights, but to keep the intruder thinking he or she hasn't been caught yet the couple continued to argue.
"But my dear!" The female whined, "You've been away from me for so long! And now that I've finally found you... You... You... Want to disappear again!"
"Perhaps there was a reason why I left in the first place."
"Tell me the reason!" She demanded, tears flowing into her eyes.
" I can't." The butler said.
"Sebastian!" The other yelled in pain.
"If you didn't know then, you wouldn't understand today."
"But Sebastian..." Her hands clutched each other as they rested upon her bosom.
"It's about time the young master and I set out." As the horses were fastened to the carriage Sebastian finished his sentence and walked towards the front doors; reins held tightly in hand.
"Brother... You're so... Cruel." Finding herself alone in the stable, Cecilia's body dropped to the floor. The act between the demonic duo was now over, but as the sounds of the mysterious listener faded farther and farther away Cecilia realized her troubles had only just begun.
Alright, I haven't asked questions at the end of my chapters for awhile now... But who do you think the intruder was? Was there a reason why Sebastian was so uncharacteristically mean? And~~~ what do you think about the assignment Sebastian and Ciel will embarking on? Of course, in the end it won't really matter because you won't see it anyway, I plan on focusing more on Cecilia. Pfffft! Not! Ha! Boy I got you didn't I? If only I could see your reaction. I'm only joking. I already have an idea for the assignment and I'm looking forward to writing it! ^w^
Please review your answers, and I'll see you guys next time!
