A group of teenagers leave the Commander Shepard's High School for the final time and step out into New London; the town was still small and was still under repairs after the war.
"So guys what are you going to miss now that we can finally graduated?" said one of the three teenagers, as they walked towards the centre of town.
"Not professor Faralan's lectures on mass fields that's for sure Rico, I don't think those Salarians really understand how fast they talk." signed Liv as she flicked her long dark hair over her shoulder.
"You get used to it Liv, at least you didn't have a Vorcha making you do laps on a broken leg, lucky bastards and their increased healing speed. Someone should make them sit down with a book on human biology." moaned S
"I think you have us beat there S." Rico chuckled.
As they walked the once proud streets of London they noticed the guards patrolling the tall walls made from wood and scrap iron, the walls stretched from building to building to create a boarder around the town.
"I wonder what it's like out there now." said Liv
"All of the escaped wildlife from the ships that crashed during the invasion own the countryside and some of the city... so nothing like the pictures they showed us back there." replied Rico
Liv shuddered "Do you think there are any Nathak out there?"
"They are just stories that the guards tell to stop people from leaving the walls." snorted Rico as he nervously scratched the dark skin on the back of his neck, He didn't like to admit it however he was concerned about the stories he had heard.
"I hope so" replied Liv, while trying to hide the fear in her voice.
As they turned into the town centre there was a larger crowd that had gathered for the unveiling of a new statue. The town's mayor Karla Knighten was there to reveal it to the public; her small frame was overshadowed by the towering gorilla like, Elcor workers that had finished building the statue, however her voice boomed above the nattering public.
"I am honoured to announce that the memorial statue to every worlds saviour, Commander Shepard." with that she pulled at the cloth covering to reveal a statue of the commander built from scrap metal.
The statue showed the commanders broad frame in full body armour with a piece of metal on the chest with the N7 emblem painted on it, the head of the statue was covered by a helmet because no one in New London had ever seen the commander, there was a Bulky Carnifex pistol in one of his hands and someone in the town had designed a hologram of an Omni-blade that sat perfectly on the other arm the blade extended down past it's hand.
"Hey look your statue is finally finished Shep." joked Liv
"I wish you wouldn't say that Liv." he retorted "Yes he saved everyone, my parents loved the guy, I get it."
"I'm sorry Shep, so what do you think he really looked like?" Liv panicked knowing Shep didn't really like talking about his parents.
Rico had been studying the statue for a while as they were talking "I don't know Liv, I've heard a few different stories about him; some say he was an agile little tech specialist and a crack shot with a sniper rifle, others say he was a hulking biotic vanguard that would fly around the battlefield with a Krogan shotgun. With a legend like the Commander, you can never be sure."
Shep looked confused "Wait a minute. A Krogan shotgun, people say that he used a bloody claymore? Those things would tear a normal man's arm out at the socket!"
"Like I said they are just stories." replied Rico.
Liv was stood looking at the Omni-blade on the statue of Commander Shepard; Omni-tools were devices that had been in use on earth since man found the Prothean ruins on Mars. They were used for general and military prepossess. "So is anyone else going to get their Omni-tool sorted out or is it only me?"
"I think you're the only one that can afford one Liv." retorted Shep.
"Don't count me out Shep, I'm thinking about going to work with the guard's on the wall, you get one when you start." replied Rico through a grin, "Although I've heard of some of the best Omni-tools are made of scrap left over from the war, if you have the stones to go outside of the walls."
"True although it's very expensive and highly illegal." Liv tried to hide the shock in her voice.
"Don't worry Liv." laughed Shep "I would like one however I'm not that desperate for one just yet, besides towns only a few miles across, it's just as easy to walk across town to talk to each other and you I don't need an Omni-tool for that."
Liv smiled "That's a good point Shep, although I'm going to need one for work, it's going to be difficult helping to rediscover the lost mass field and quantum technologies without one for analysis and fabrication."
Rico's jaw dropped "That's rather ambitious of you Liv; I thought you struggled with Faralan's lectures."
"Yes I struggled to keep up with him; however I understood everything he was talking about." Liv said with a smile "what about you Shep, any ideas for the future?"
Shep sighed "I don't know Liv… Maybe a gigolo?"
Liv spun to face Shep "What, you can't be serious can you?" Shep raised his eyebrow "No you can't do this to me!" Rico held his sides as he burst into laughter.
Shep looked a bit shocked "What do you mean "to you"?"
Liv's eyes shifted from Shep to Rico and back again "Wait your joking?" she punched Shep in the arm "Arse hole!"
Shep laughed at Liv "Seriously what did you mean by "to you"?"
Liv looked at the floor when she felt her blood starting to rush towards her cheeks "I… Err. What I meant to say was… Err." her face quickly started turning red "I've got to go." she turned and started walking away as quickly as she could.
Rico smiled at Shep "You do realise that she's crazy about you, don't you?"
Shep chuckled "Yeah, I don't know what to do about it. I've known her for years and I don't think her parents like me very much."
Rico shook his head "Whatever you say mate, pint?"
"Finally a good Idea" Shep turned and started walking with Rico towards Verdant the only place in town that served alcohol.
