Shep woke up with Liv lying on his right arm and cuddling into him, he started trying to figure out what had happened the night before, he still couldn't believe what had happened at Verdant but he couldn't remember getting to Liv's. He looked down at the watch on his free arm 8:37am, he knew she liked to sleep in on Saturdays and he had lots to do. He slipped his arm out from under her, sat up on the edge of the bed and stretched. "What a night." he grunted "When did I take my clothes off?" still half asleep and started looking for his clothes most of them where still near the foot of the bed. He had just put his jeans back on and was looking for his shirt when he heard someone else in the house. He quickly made his way over to the window and found his shirt on the windowsill, the footsteps were getting closer. He took one final confused look at Liv before he descended the fire escape and started making his way home.

Shep decided to take his time back home so he could think about everything that had happened, should he join the Scavenger corps and what the hell was up with that Asari? If anyone could answer his questions his mentor could.

After a few hours of walking the streets and trying to get his head around everything he made it back home; the Destiny Ascension Orphanage was a large building, one of the biggest in town and one of the few in the area that survived the war relatively unscathed, there were a lot of children that lost their families to the Reapers. Shep didn't waste any time and went in to look for his friend and started walking towards the double doors at the front of the building. Most of the staff at the orphanage tried to help the children as best they could but they never really took the time to connect with them. Only a few members of staff took the time to get to know the kids, Shep was lucky enough to have one of them as a mentor and a friend.

As Shep enters the building though the large set of double doors he notices a Turian guard at the reception with a small child who was sat on the floor who was pulling his knees up to his chest and hiding his face, he can't have been much more than 8 years old. Shep shook his head, his parents must have been part of a trade convoy; those bastard raiders have orphaned another kid, 'Someone really needs to get out there and do something about it.' Shep continued walking down the hallway towards his mentor office. There was a plaque next to his mentor's door which said Ucrocress Kheh'foral, the door was already open. Shep peered into the room to see a Batarian sat in a large chair behind a desk and staring out of the window and occasionally looking down at a note book. "Hi Ucrocress, I need some advice" He let himself in and took a seat at the desk "Can we talk"

The Batarian spun around on his seat and put his notebook down on the desk, "Hello Shep" Ucrocress smiled across the table.

The Batarian leaned forward and out of the light that shone through the window, he had a distinguished look to him for an old war veteran his face was covered in fine white hairs that grew longer closer to his mouth and the hair on the rest of his body seemed to be a reddish-brown color his nose didn't look human it was an inverted flat triangle with ridges that ran vertically down his face, he had two sets of solid black eyes the large pair sat just above his nose and the smaller set sat a bit higher and slightly closer together; most of the new children were scared of his eyes they said it was like they were staring at a soulless creature rather than a person, his ears were pointed slightly at the top, a ridge of cartilage ran around the top of his head and down the back of his neck, Shep couldn't be sure but he always though that Ucrocress had red markings around his eyes and nose however he didn't want to get to close in case Ucrocress thought he was looking at the burn marks that ran down the left side of his face.

"Sure, how can I help?"

Shep sat upright "I've been thinking about getting a job" he hesitated for a second, Shep had just realised that he couldn't say anything about going into Verdant. "I was talking to Rico about potential jobs yesterday and we got talking about the Scavenger Corp, do you know anything about them?"

Ucrocress leaned back in his chair and folded his arms "The Corps is a bit shady, from what I've heard it's full of adrenaline junkies I'm sure you would be happier working somewhere a little bit safer, I know a guy that's working on repairing some of the old buildings."

Shep waited before responding watching the old Batarian very closely, Shep knew that he had helped fight during the invasion and that he worked somewhere called Omega, it seemed like the Batarian was always holding back information "Perhaps, although the pay isn't the great."

Ucrocress stared down at the desk at a trophy one of the other kids had made for him with a plaque saying caretaker; he reached for it and ran his thumb across the engraving before showing it the Shep "Do you know why the kids call me caretaker?"

"Because it's easier for them to say then your real name?"

Caretaker chuckled "Well yes, however it's because I know what all of you are going through, I'm the last of my family. There are only a few thousand Batarian left after the attack on Khar'Shan, you and the other kids are my new family and I don't want to see anything bad to happen to any of you."

Shep was shocked by his response he tilted his head to the left, an old Batarian custom to show respect "Ok, I'll have a look at the construction thing"

"Thank you" Caretaker placed the trophy back and the desk after a brief smile he looked back up at Shep "Is there anything else you would like to ask me?"

"Actually there is, I Rico introduced me to an Asari the other day."

"Stop right there I know where you're going with this; I used to know an Asari called Aria."
