Chapter 3 - Pottery

(This story takes place directly beforethe events of Paintball)

Rose, or Rosie as most called her, Weasley absolutely loved Christmas. It wasn't even about the gifts. Which was likely an odd thought from a nine-almost ten, thank you!-year old girl but it was true so far as Rosie was concerned. Don't get her wrong, of course, she loved the presents as much as any other child but the presents weren't the reason she loved Christmas. She loved it because it was one of the times where her entire family was together in the same place. Even her Uncle Charlie made a point to come home from Romania most years. Rosie loved all of her Aunts and Uncles, of course. But, secretly, Charlie had always been her favorite.

And she got to see and play with all of her cousins! That was a big deal for little Rosie. She saw Auntie Ginny and Uncle Harry's kids all the time. Which wasn't a bad thing, exactly but it was exciting when Victoire, Dominique, and Louis all got to come play also. Having all the kids at the Burrow for the holidays meant that the girls and the boys were almost evenly split, which meant Rosie didn't get left out when the 'boys were boys' as her Mum often said.

Which is why she was not surprised when Teddy announced that the boys were starting a 'boys only' snowball fight. Scowling, the girl's grouped together and decided to make snowmen.

"What if we made snowmen families for our parents? Maybe Uncle George could even help us make them super special once they're built!" Rosie suggested. The other girls beamed excitedly at the idea. And so, each of the girl's started working hard on their snowmen.

Rosie decided that she would start with the snowman for her daddy first and then she would make one for her mum. After that she'd make her own snowman and, if she was feeling more generous than she currently felt, she might add one for Hugo too. Mum and Grandmum Molly always teased her about being a 'daddy's girl' but Rosie didn't mind. She saw absolutely nothing wrong with the concept.

An hour or so later, Rosie had finished her daddy's snowman and was putting the final touches on her mum's. She had added extra snow along the back down to the snowman's 'waist' in a way that, sort of-if you tilted your head and squinted just right-matched the texture of Rosie's and her mum's hair. Rosie took a step backwards to admire her work, rubbing her hands together to warm them back up. Nodding in approval she started to move forward to start on her own snowman. She paused and glanced over her shoulder when she heard a tune being whistled behind her.

"Uncle George! Can you help us, please?" she begged the approaching wizard.

"Well, I suppose that depends," he said, tone and expression utterly serious.

Rose studied him wearily for a moment before tilting her head, "Depends on what?"

"First off, it depends on what you lot need my help with," George explained. Then he grinned brightly, "I'll tell you the other part in a bit."

She studied him a moment longer, recognizing the grin as his "let's cause trouble" grin and nodded slightly. She knew whatever Uncle George had in mind wouldn't be too bad. Uncle George might be a joker but he wasn't stupid and that's exactly what he would have to be in order to risk her Mum's, Auntie Ginny, and Grandmum Molly's tempers if he managed to do something that would potentially ruin Christmas. "Teddy said that they're having a snowball fight and only boys can play so we decided that we'd make snow families to show to our parents later. We were wondering if you could help us make them look realer. See? I added Mum's hair but right now it just looks like one of those weird Muggle superhero capes!"

George choked down a laugh at his niece's, rather accurate, description of Hermione's snowperson. He walked around the two snowmen curiously and then circled the other girls' as well. "I think I might be able to help. Shouldn't be too difficult."

Narrowing his eyes in consideration, he moved back to Rose's snowman that was supposed to be a portrayal of his little brother. He pulled out his wand and cast several consecutive charms over the figure. The bottom portion shifted in color and texture to resemble denims while the middle portion shifted to look like Ron's maroon Weasley jumper. After double checking his work, George tinted the "face" and added 'freckles" before topping the 'head' off with a mess of what was meant to look like shaggy ginger hair. While the finished product didn't actually look like his brother, he wasn't about to tell the little girl that.

Turning to the cluster of girls that now surrounded him he grinned, "Alright little ladies, I'll do one each and then I'll come back around and repeat it. Gotta keep it fair."

The girls nodded eagerly in agreement and George set about altering each of the girls' snow families to where they would somewhat portray the actual family members, as the girls had intended.

When he finally finished the last of the snowpeople, he waved for the girls to gather around and then shouted for the boys to join them.

"So, how would you lot feel about helping out ol' Uncle Georgie with something before the ladies here reveal their Christmas gifts to their families," George asked, the grin returning to his face in full force.

His grin widened when he noticed that all of the children seemed to be passing weary glances between one another. "Are we going to get in trouble for it?" James asked.

"No, mate, I'll be taking full heat for this one. Besides, I've already cleared it with your Aunt Hermione and Grandmum Molly, so we're safe," George grinned. The boys' expressions immediately lit up but the girls' still look slightly suspicious. Not that George was surprised, anyone who knew George Weasley would be weary to accept something without knowing the details first. These girls were smart ones.

"What is it, exactly, that you're wanting us to do, Uncle George," Rosie asked, eyes narrowed and her expression eerily reminiscent of her grandmum.

George ignored the look and his grin became sneaky, "How would you lot feel about help your Uncle George with a Snowball ambush?"
