"God damn it." Jack swore. "Alright, options?"

The mission had been a routine one, well kind of. It was an introductory mission for one the new six man British SG Teams. Intel said the planet was uninhabited, some ruins that even Daniel said were of no cultural significance, no indication of any mining activity in the last few hundred years. Basically the perfect planet to acclimatise the new team to Gate travel. That should have been a big flashing warning sign to any veteran of the SGC.

At least the bodysuits had proven themselves. The bodysuits had just become another part of the uniform for SG1, in particular for Carter who often wore it when they were doing Gate Maintenance or she was working on unknown alien technology as it provided extra protection against accidental electrical discharges.

The ambush had been almost perfect. Pinpoint staff blasts to the two in front and two in the rear of the group, and then the plan was to pick off the rest in the confusion. The problem for the Jaffa was that Jack and Daniel had the point positions while Carter and Teal'c were on drag when the ambush was sprung. The energy of the staff blasts knocked SG1 off their feet but they all, to varying degrees of fluidity, rolled with the blast back onto their feet, firing their P90's, or in Teal'c case his staff weapon, into the foliage where the shots had come from, joined almost instantly by the disciplined fire of the six SAS troopers.

"Cover. Ruins." Jack had ordered, a bit out of breath as the staff blast had hit his chest.

This is what lead to SG1 and the British SG25 huddled down under the cover of the ruins with Jack asking for options as a formation of Jaffa moved in and a few Death Gliders screamed overhead. Luckily the Ruins were not too ruined, and provided some overhead protection as well as wall thick enough to withstand the Jaffa attack for a time but the teams were not going to get out of this soon. SG1 and SG25 had deployed in defensive positions that gave overlapping fields of fire but also allowed communication without shouting or relying on their radios.

"What of the subspace emergency beacon that Captain Harris provided?" Teal'c asked.

"Carter?" Jack added.

"Might work, Sir." Sam replied. "All patrolling Fleet vessels automatically scan for the beacon. We are relatively close to Earth in galactic terms, so response time could be anything from five hours to a day."

"Danny. Fire up the beacon. We need to bunker down here." Jack ordered.

"Those Gliders will be a problem." The CO of SG25 said.

"Sir, what about the emergency backup?" Sam asked.

"It was your turn to carry, right?" Jack responded.

"Yes, Sir." Sam confirmed.

"Alright. Priority is the Gliders. Then you can have some shots at the Jaffa. We should provide as much field test data as we can." Jack ordered. "Shame though. I wanted to be the one to test it out."

Sam dug into her pack and pulled out the heavy, stocky, experimental gun that Xander had given her. SG1 took turns as to who carried the weapon on missions, and as it was Sam's turn it was her issued gun that was brought along.

"No. It can't be." One of the SAS troopers said when he saw the gun. "What does that fire?"

"Rocket propelled, mass reactive, high explosive rounds." Sam replied as she checked the load in the magazine and then slammed the magazine home and cocked the gun.

"No way. That's a god damned Bolter." The SAS trooper said. "Next you will be telling me you have Powered Armour."

"Nope." Sam said, sighting a Death Glider in her scope. "Not yet at least. We got the interface bodysuits though. Not quite a Black Carapace, but it will do."

She flicked the Bolter from Safety to Single Shot and aimed for the power converter just inside the wing root on the left hand side of the Glider and squeezed the trigger.

The Bolter made a single, throaty roar and the round sped to the Glider. The shot was perfectly aimed, ripping though the relatively light skin of the Glider and exploding in the heart of the power converter. The detonation of both round and power converter ripped the left wing off the Glider and it plummeted to the ground in a fireball, landing several hundred feet away from the ruins.

"But then again, without the Gene Seed, we would be more Sisters of Battle than Space Marine." Sam concluded.

"I think I'm in love." The SAS trooper, and closet Warhammer 40K fanboy, almost whispered, earning him smacks over the back of the head from his CO and two other team members.

"Take a number. All the geeks at the Yard are in front of you." Jack quipped, getting a glare from Sam. "Nice shot, Carter."

"You're just jealous I get the first go." She replied, taking a bead on a second Glider.

"Less talky, more shooty." Jack said.

SG25 and the men of SG1 started firing at the first wave of charging Jaffa as Sam fired at the second Death Glider.

Almost six hours later and the two SG teams were still holding out, but barely. With Sam exclusively using the Bolter, and now on her second magazine of 100 rounds, they had distributed her P90 ammo between Jack and Daniel. Most of the SAS troopers were using the Canadian made C8 Assault Carbine, with the exception of their designated marksman who was using, ironically enough, the venerable G3 SG1 sniper rifle.

Jack and the CO of SG25 estimated that about 700 Jaffa had been committed to this fight, the rough equivalent of a Battalion, including the seven Death Gliders that Sam had shot down over the course of the fight and the five Al'kesh, only one of which was shot down taking almost thirty rounds from the Bolter to do so. It was only through liberal usage of grenades; accurate and disciplined fire; shots from Sam where the high explosive rounds took out small groups of clustered Jaffa; and four sets of Claymores, that had been positioned up against the outside walls of the ruins and only detonated when large groups of Jaffa got close, that they had managed to hang on.

The Jaffa were massing for another charge and two Al'kesh were beginning another run at their position when first one then the other Al'kesh exploded. A second later four F-302 Mongoose's sped through the burning debris of the Al'kesh and started pursuing the remaining two while four SA-43 Hammerheads began strafing runs on the massing Jaffa.

"Ground team at beacon, this is the Samantha Carter, come in. Over." The voice of Williams, the sensor and Radio officer on the Carter, came over their radios.

"Carter, this is Major Carter. Good to hear your voice, Williams." Sam replied, feeling a bit odd at that first sentence.

The rest of SG1 and SG25 were taking the chance to reload while the Jaffa were distracted.

"Good to hear your voice too, boss." Williams replied. "Hold for Captain James."

There was a brief pause before another, more cocksure voice came on the radio.

"Hey, Prom Queen." Commander James said. "What kind of mess did you get yourself into this time that we had to chase off two Ha'tak's up here?"

"Same old, same old, Luke. A few hundred Jaffa did not like my haircut." Sam replied with a smirk.

The rest of SG1 was staring at Sam, having never seen her act this casually in a combat situation. The SAS troopers just shrugged and thought 'Aussies'. For Sam's part the joking banter was almost habit from her time in Australia when she knew Luke James and his friends.

The Jaffa were now running as hard as they could for cover as the SA-43's came around for another pass. In the distance the F-302's were climbing towards space and smoke plumes from the last two Al'kesh rose from behind the hills.

"Yeah well I told you it looked better on you when it's longer." Commander James replied. "Anyway, when the USS Prometheus, USS Slayer and HMS Bodiceia and us showed up, those pesky snakes just pissed off. Bloody disappointing, them not to let us even take pot shots at the buggers."

"As much fun as it is, listening to you two flirt." Another voice broke in. "I would prefer to beam the stranded SG teams out, if you don't mind."

"Sure thing, Colonel Pendergast. Sam, I'm taking you out for a beer when we get back to Earth." Commander James said.

"SG1, SG25, prepare to beam up." Colonel Pendergast said.

A flash of light later and the two SG teams were aboard the USS Prometheus. After a very quick check for injuries by the medical personnel, SG1 made their way to the bridge while SG25 went in search of a meal. Just as they reached the bridge, SG1 saw the four SA-43's that had been down attacking the Jaffa lining up for docking. Each of the three Valkyrie Class ships had their two F-302's attached to their docking ports.

"Docking bay reports the four F-302's are secure from CAP. The SA-43's will be secure in one minute." One of the bridge crew reported.

"Inform the Carter, Slayer and Bodiceia that we go to Hyperspace in ninety seconds." Colonel Pendergast ordered.

"Colonel." Jack said. "We just wanted to thank you for the rescue."

"Not a problem." Pendergast replied. "But you better brace for Hyperspace."

The ship lurched and the star field outside was replaced by the bluish conduit of Hyperspace.
