Damon and I kissed last night. Bonnie squealed with delight. She still couldn't believe what was happening between the two of them. Just a few weeks ago, she would never have put her name and Damon's in the same sentence without the word disagreement somewhere in the same sentence and now, they were a couple.
Are we a couple? Bonnie wondered. He did say he wanted to be with me. And we kissed. And it was a really nice kiss. Shrugging off her covers, Bonnie couldn't help but sigh. She wasn't sure what the day had in store for her, but she knew she was ready for anything.
Perhaps it didn't mean the same thing to him. She argued with herself.
She was going to drive herself crazy with what ifs and maybes. That's not how she wanted this day to be. She had woken up so blissfully happy about the beginning of a relationship between her and Damon and now she was driving herself crazy analyzing everything that happened last night. She needed to talk to her friends. Friends. And with that word, she was filled with more trepidation than before. What would her friends say? Caroline might be okay with it, but Elena. Elena would never truly be happy for her and Damon. And what about that stupid promise she made to Elena? Could she keep it?
Bonnie was not ready to face reality just yet. She wanted to bask in the possibilities of a relationship with Damon. Damon. Who would've thought that Damon would be able to bring a smile to my face that didn't include his abject pain?
Picking up her phone, she decided to text Damon. Good morning!
You forgot to add sexy. It should be Good morning sexy! But, I'll forgive you…today.
Giggling, she looked at her phone. Of course, that would be Damon's reply. How about Good morning psycho? How else was she supposed to reply to his text? She didn't want to be a pushover.
Only if I can reply with a Good morning Judgey.
Exasperated, Bonnie knew there would be no winning this argument. Is this what I should look forward to? At least, things will never be boring. Good morning Damon! Smiling to herself, she got ready for her day. Yes, I am definitely ready for anything.
Damon chuckled to himself as he perused the ongoing exchange between himself and Bonnie. At least things will never be boring.
"Something amusing, brother?" Stefan inquired.
"Of course not, little brother. What could I possibly find amusing?"
"No, I can tell. Something is definitely going on with you. You seem happy…which could only mean someone is being tortured or about to die."
Damon chuckled at Stefan's droll humor. "There is no need for something that violent. I'm a vampire of few needs."
Stefan gave his brother a stern look. The last time he had checked in on his brother, he was looking very close to a certain Bennett witch. While Stefan was positive Bonnie could defend herself, he knew more than one female had fallen prey to Damon. He did not want to see what would happen to Bonnie, his brother or the town if things took a turn for the worse and they went back to their volatile relationship. He didn't know if anyone could survive that. "Don't you think a trip is in order?"
"A trip? To where?" Damon was amused by his brother's pointless attempt to interrogate him. It wouldn't work, but he didn't have to know that.
"Not sure. I just think it might be nice to get away for a while. We need a little space from Mystic Falls."
"Space?" Damon echoed.
"Yes. Maybe a brother bonding trip?"
"Actually, I'm bonding right now… with someone else. You may know her."
"Damon. If this person you're bonding with is Bonnie, I suggest you stop."
"Now, is this merely a suggestion or a warning?"
"I don't think you two bonding is a good thing."
"Why? Everyone always says we should start getting along?"
"When? When did anyone say that?"
"It was implied when I became an honorary member of the Scooby gang. Besides, what could go wrong?"
"A lot." Stefan stressed. "Don't forget she is a Bennett witch. She's strong. In fact, I don't think she even knows how strong she is."
"All the more reason for me to befriend her."
"Friend? With you, it's never just friends."
"One can only hope." Damon chuckled as he left his brother contemplating Damon's current misdeeds. Won't he be surprised when he finds out what's happening between the witch and me? I should do the courteous thing and tell him. No, I'll let him figure it out.
Bonnie finished dressing and stared at her reflection in the mirror. Was she mistaken or did she have a certain glow? She shook her head at her reflection with obvious glee. She never wanted this feeling to go away. She liked being happy. Ever since she learned she was a witch and the Salvatore brothers came to town, there was always imminent danger that she never really got to enjoy rare moments of happiness. "I could definitely get used to this." She mumbled to herself.
Heading downstairs, she yelled to her father. "Dad, I'm going out for a bit. See you later."
"Okay. Be safe," her dad replied absent-mindedly.
Heading out the door, Bonnie was pleasantly surprised to see Damon waiting by his car.
"I thought you might want to greet me properly." Damon quipped with his usual eyebrow quirk.
He was challenging her and she knew it. She realized he wanted her to admit that today, after all the emotional highs and lows of the night before, she still felt the same about him. However, she couldn't let him win their first power struggle. She was no weakling. Besides, actions spoke louder than words. At least, that is what she had always been told.
Crossing towards him, she leaned in and pecked his lips. "Hello Damon."
"That's a start." He purred, before pulling her close and laying a lingering kiss upon her lips.
"A very nice start to the day." She added when the kiss finally ended and she could finally breathe again. Damon's kiss was still as amazing as the one from last night. She didn't think she'd ever get used to it. "So, what are you doing here?"
"Didn't you invite me over?"
Unsure why he thought she had invited him, she quickly looked around. Was there some looming danger that was following them? "No, I didn't. Did you think I had? Is everyone okay?" Bonnie asked in a rush.
Taking pity on her, Damon silenced her with another kiss. "You wouldn't call me sexy. I figured you wanted me to come over."
Sighing loudly, Bonnie playfully hit him on the shoulder. Sometimes, he really was exhausting to deal with. "Actually, I was going to take a walk. Did you want to join me?"
"You do need someone to protect you."
Turning on her heel, Bonnie decided not to argue that last comment. If she and Damon were ever to last, she would have to pick her battles. Besides, she just wanted to enjoy the first day of a new relationship.
Catching up to Bonnie, Damon took her hand in his. He was never much of a hand-holder, but he wanted to impress her. So, "school's good?" Damon asked, trying to make conversation. He was actually nervous. Did I really just ask about school? I sound like a schoolboy.
Omigosh, he's nervous. Bonnie giggled. Good. At least, it's not just me. "Well, school is fine. I mean, I think they will probably suspend me soon for my lack of attendance. But, when I go, I really find it interesting." She ended with a smile.
"Yeah, attendance wasn't really important when I went to school."
"Really?"
"Yeah. They were lucky when we came. Besides, we had crops to be harvested and that was more important."
"Until the war?"
"Yeah," He smiled sadly. "Until the war."
"Did you ever go back?"
"And be an eternal student like my brother?"
"No, not like your brother. For you. I mean, you had lots of time."
"Yes, I did go back to school. But, they didn't really teach me anything I couldn't learn on my own."
"What about the college experience? Didn't you want that?"
"Oh, Bonnie, you have a lot to learn." He said, slowing shaking his head. "I met several sweet, young co-eds while not going to school," Damon taunted.
Frustrating. Bonnie thought as she playfully hit his arm again.
"What the heck is going on?" Caroline practically screeched at the sight of Bonnie and Damon holding hands while strolling through the woods. They were acting like a couple! Caroline was decidedly against Damon especially after their whole disastrous liaison. She suspected Bonnie was starting to feel something for Damon, but she hadn't realized it had progressed so far so fast. She was astonished to say the least. On the other hand, she was happy for Bonnie. Everyone deserved some happiness, she reminded herself.
Like children caught with their hands in the cookie jar, Bonnie and Damon instantly dropped hands and turned to face Caroline.
"What do you mean?" Bonnie hedged guiltily. She didn't want to be found out. She wanted the chance to put together a logical argument and talk to both Caroline and Elena about her feelings for Damon.
"None of your business," Damon defended. He was not going to defend his actions to vampire Barbie.
"Are you two together?" inquired Caroline.
"Yes." Damon replied.
"No." Bonnie replied at the same time as Damon.
Looking at Bonnie, Damon quickly amended his answer. "No."
Upon hearing Damon's affirmative reply, Bonnie changed her mind. "Yes."
"So, which is it?" Caroline smiled sweetly.
"Yes," Bonnie answered. "We should talk."
"We were talking, before she interrupted." Damon reminded.
"I meant Caroline and I should talk." Bonnie countered. Walking towards Caroline, she linked arms with her. "Caroline and I are going to chat. Damon, I will talk with you later."
"No need. I'll just stop by later." And using his vampire speed, Damon rushed away.
"So, you and Damon?" Caroline asked all innocence. She was biting back a laugh. She didn't think Bonnie would appreciate her humor right now.
"Apparently." Bonnie replied with a grin. Besides, she thought with glee, having Caroline as an ally when she talked with Elena would probably be a good thing.
A/N: I'm putting the author's note at the end of the chapter this time. Of course, I do not own the characters. They are the property of L.J. Smith. Thank you so much for sticking with this story…despite the long intervals between updates. I have greatly appreciated all the likes, follows and comments on my first multi-chapter fan fiction.
