A/N: Two words for you guys.
Double. Update.
I swear that I will complete a double update before midnight EST and if I don't, you are more than welcome to send rabid koalas to my house.
Bubbles continued to walk, agitated at her counterpart's brother, but otherwise somewhat indifferent. She wasn't going to get into another stupid brawl. It's not like she didn't want to, because she definitely wanted to plant Butch's face into the ground. But it was a Sunday evening and Sara was already waiting for her with their weekly homemade dinner and she had a biology paper to write, so unless she wanted an hour long lecture from both her guardian and the ever-so strict Mrs. Rhyis, she had to make her way home now.
Butch narrowed his eyes and glared at her retreating figure. His clouded mind cleared up slightly and he managed to get a good aim at Bubbles. He formed an energy blast and hurled it towards the unsuspecting girl.
She was knocked over and she fell on her knees, eyes wide and mouth open. Bubbles hadn't been in a fight using superpowers in a long time, and it felt foreign. The burning, stinging sensation faded quickly due to her healing abilities, but she was still in shock. Bubbles remained kneeling and hands flat on the ground, staring hard at the concrete street.
"Did that really just happen?" Bubbles breathed heavily.
Her heart was pounding and her body was filled with an unfamiliar jolt of energy. The feeling was even more foreign than being attacked with the energy blast. She felt… pain.
Pain that wasn't sadness or anger. It was a whole different pain and she wasn't sure if she liked it or not.
"Yes it did, little Bubbles." Butch snapped her back to reality and she held out a breath she didn't realize she was holding.
Bubbles got up quickly and faced Butch. He glared and lunged, but Bubbles dodged and slammed him into a building- shaking it, but not enough to tear it down. Butch, still slightly dazed, remained sitting and Bubbles looked at the boy, almost… curious. Then she shook her head and laughed. Not the type of laugh with a smile on her lips, but a humorless laugh one would expect from a condescending teacher.
"Sober up." Bubbles said, and walked away from the dazed, drunk boy.
This time, he didn't try to go after her.
A tall, sleek building stood tall in the middle of the city- close to Townsville Square and in the heart of Townsville itself. It was tall enough to resemble a small skyscraper and it looked like something only millionaires afforded. Bubbles ran up to the apartment building and the aging doorman was in time to open the door before she crashed into the building again. It was a long story, but let's just say that the doorman had learned to keep the door open whenever Bubbles was speeding towards the building.
"Thanks Bates!" Bubbles called as she hurried towards the elevator. She pressed the penthouse floor button more times than it should be pressed and soon the elevator made its way up.
"Oh God, I hope she doesn't kill me."
As the blonde girl made her way up using the elevator, a woman no more than thirty or so waited by the dining room, staring into the view of Townsville. It was cloudy and still raining slightly, leaving the city dark and gray.
The woman's thick red hair fell into messy curls around her heart shaped face, and the simple outfit of a red blouse and burgundy jeans was reminiscent of her normal red work suit.
"She better be home in the next five minutes or-" The woman's voice resembled that of a concerned, very pissed off mother.
"Or what?" Bubbles appeared in the doorway and the woman turned around, a frown on her face.
"Where have you been? I've been worried sick. Actually, I've been worried that you might get sick."
Guilt washed over the young girl and she sighed, walking over towards the woman. "I'm sorry, Sara. I just got caught up."
Bubbles left it at that and Sara's gray eyes narrowed, her expression showing clear suspicion and disbelief.
"What's for dinner?" Bubbles asked, plastering a fake smile on her face as she made her way to the table. She ignored the obviously curious adult and attempted to change the subject.
Sara was about to make her way towards the table as well, but that was before she caught sight of Bubbles' back.
Sara's eyes widened at the back of Bubbles' sweater, which was burnt and charcoal black. As Bubbles commented on the pasta while sitting down, Sara approached the seat opposite of the young girl.
"What's on your back?"
Bubbles was already chewing on her pasta when Sara's comment made her choke. "What?"
Bubbles took off her sweater and widened her eyes. Her mind went back to her less than friendly encounter with Butch and she gulped.
"What happened?"
"I… got into a fight."
She scoffed at the blonde girl in disbelief. "With what, a flamethrower?"
Bubbles pursed her lips. "You could say that."
