A/N: Happy Thanksgiving! If you don't celebrate Thanksgiving... then happy Thursday! I give to you, an update!
Bubbles was always regretful. Ever since she was a little girl, she thought of all the ways she could've changed an entire bad day if she just changed her decision.
After battles she'd regret not using this tactic or regret not letting Blossom do this or that or whatever led to an unsuccessful day of crime fighting.
They were small twinges of regret, but as time went on she became more regretful.
She began to regret not running away with her sisters when they thought the Professor was trying to make new perfect girls. She began to regret never standing up for herself against people who mocked their broken family.
But for tonight, her biggest regret was coming back.
She tried her hardest to never come back, yet she went tonight. And now she was staring down at an unconscious Rowdyruff who was trying to hunt her down just moments ago.
The situation she was in was reminiscent of one she went through only a year ago, although that memory was slightly… happier. Things hadn't turned for the worse and it wasn't as bad as it was now.
"Shit." Bubbles muttered. She bit her lip anxiously, feeling a little bit of guilt.
She didn't want to take him anywhere, but she also didn't want to leave him there. There were a lot of people who'd do terrible things to a Ruff, and for a moment she remembered what it was like to have people who wanted you dead or worse.
But it wasn't her problem. Bubbles was through helping people. Playing hero was what caused her so much pain in her 17 years of living.
Butch mumbled incoherently in his sleep, his body shuddering in a thin black button up and jeans. Butch's head twitched and Bubbles felt goosebumps all over her body.
Watching Butch in this state was all too familiar for her, and Bubbles couldn't help but see her sisters.
"Fucking counterparts." Bubbles whispered.
Bubbles didn't know why she brought him here. Not here, because it was a fairly secluded place so no one would see them which was perfect, but just why she brought him anywhere.
She didn't care about him.
There were three things in this world she cared about anymore. And none of those things were Butch.
Bubbles wished she could say that she tied Butch up, but it wasn't like in the movies where they seem to have an endless supply of rope. So she had to settle for leaving him on the ground and hoping that he wouldn't try to pick a fight.
Sara's words still rung fresh in her mind, and Bubbles had no intention of going back on her promise. It was only a matter of time until the city took them away from each other, and not listening to Sara's advice would only make it sooner.
Bubbles checked her phone and sighed. It was almost midnight. Butch had been unconscious for twenty minutes, which was ridiculous because he was a fucking superhuman! How long could he be knocked out for? Especially for something as mundane as falling headfirst into the sidewalk?
"Fucking ridiculous." Bubbles muttered. She walked over to him and kicked his side. "Get up."
Butch shivered and twitched. His eyes opened slowly and he twitched again.
He groaned, rubbing his head. Butch's eyes widened as he remembered his last moments.
Jumping to a fighting stance, his eyes met Bubbles.
"Where am I?"
"Some alley." Bubbles shrugged.
Butch narrowed his eyes. "What did you do to me?"
Bubbles gave Butch a once-over before answering. "You passed out so I figured I'd do you a favor by getting you somewhere less… public."
Butch's stance faltered and his eyebrows twitched. "Why?"
"Why were you standing there? Better yet, why were you chasing me?"
"I wanted a rematch."
Bubbles was taken aback, not quite expecting this response. Truth was, she wanted to fight him too.
The adrenaline was unbelievable and it gave her a rush of amazing pain that helped her stop thinking.
She wanted to fight him.
She wanted to tell him.
She wanted to feel the pain again.
But that couldn't happen.
She had to resist.
She had to smirk at him.
She had to run.
