Chapter 2

"Mummy! You're back! I missed you!" Adam exclaimed enthusiastically, running up to the pinkhedgehog and wrapping his tiny arms around her legs.

"I missed you too, my little baby!" Amy giggled, bending down and hugging the smiling young boy. With her arms wrapped around Adam tightly, she looked up to see Blaze leaning on the wall with a small smile. "Thanks again for looking after him Blaze."

"Amy! How many times do I have to tell you?! It's a pleasure looking after the little guy." Blaze's smile widened. She walked over to them and ruffled Adam's quills.

"Well... We better get going now. Who's coming over by the way?" Amy asked as she pulled Adam with herself to a standing position. The little green hedgehog looked from his mother to the lavender cat curiously.

"Oh... Nobody too important. Silver, why?" Blaze questioned back, pretending not to notice Amy's teasing smile.

"Nothing, nothing. Make sure to have a fun time with him!" The pink female winked with a giggle, not giving her friend much time to react as she bent down to whisper in Adam's ear. "Thank auntie Blaze and say goodbye."

"Thank you auntie Blaze! Bye!" Adam grinned up at the cat.

"Awww! You're welcome! Adam, you're simply adorable!" Blaze's expression softened from the glare she was giving Amy as she gave him a kiss on his cheek. She then pulled away and moved over to give the her pink friend a hug. "I'll see you soon Amy."

"Goodbye Blaze." Amy smiled, holding Adam's hand as she guided him to the front door. Soon, they were on their way home.

Amy took out the keys and unlocked the door to their small apartment. It only had two rooms, a small kitchen and an even smaller bathroom. She couldn't afford renting a bigger place, otherwise she would have moved out a long time ago. Not to mention, living across from them was one of Amy's best male friends who Adam considered an Uncle-

"Amy! Adam!"

The pink female smiled and turned around to see a friendly-looking blue hedgehog jogging up to them. Adam's sea-foam eyes brightened and he instantly jumped in the hedgehog's awaiting arms, causing the older male to chuckle warmly.

"Geez Ad, you're acting as if we haven't seen each other for years!" He joked, laughing when Adam glared cutely and tried to kick him in the stomach, only to end up kicking him where it hurts the most! Adam gasped in worry when he saw the blue hedgehog wince in pain.

Amy's smile widened at the sight. "Sonic, how are you?"

Sonic turned around to grin at the person he thought of as his sister, totally forgetting about the pain he was in. "You know me Ames, better than ever! What about you?"

"Tired," Amy replied with a sigh, taking off her shoes and putting them to the side neatly. "Come in you two, I'll cook something for dinner then I'll go straight to bed."

"You don't need to cook anything Ames, this friend of mine bought pizza and we couldn't eat all four boxes!" Sonic winked, ruffling Adam's quills.

Amy smirked. "No wonder you're so fat! Four boxes for just the two of you?! I'm surprised you didn't blow up!"

"Well, we guys don't like being skinny like you girls. Seriously, it's unhealthy being so skinny and - what is this?" Sonic's olive green eyes narrowed as he grabbed the hand she was using to brush her bangs aside.

"What are you - oh..." The pink hedgehog looked down at her bruised wrist. "I didn't even notice..."

"Who did this Amy?" Sonic asked softly, his eyes showing concern. Adam stared at his mother curiously, before glancing down at her purplish wrist.

"You don't need to worry Sonic, it was just a customer from work... Luckily, a gentleman happened to pass by when the bastard- uhh... Mustard was harassing me and threatened him to leave me alone." Amy finished, ignoring how Sonic raised up an eyebrow in amusement.

"Mustard was harassing you!? I didn't know that was even possible!" Sonic chuckled, knowing very well why Amy had quickly replaced bastard with mustard. She didn't want Adam learning any swear words...

Amy glared and punched Sonic on the shoulder half-heartedly. "Shut up, Sonic." She murmured, trying to stop a smile from forming on her lips.

The blue hedgehog rubbed his shoulder. "You have a very violent mummy, don't you Ad?"

The little boy wrapped his arms around Amy's legs and frowned at his 'uncle'. "No, uncle Sonic. Mummy is very sweet-"

"Awww!" Amy smiled, squeezing Adam affectionately.

"-you shouldn't have pissed her off." The small, lime green hedgehog finished, looking up at his mother and flashing her a cute smile.

Amy gasped after hearing him say that, before shooting Sonic a glare who smiled sheepishly and rubbed the back of his neck with a sweat-drop. "Now, I wonder who Adam learnt that from..."

"I learnt it from uncle Sonic!" Adam grinned proudly, not noticing the glares he was being given by said uncle. "He said that you always get pissed off by the little things that he does!"

"Ad...!" Sonic growled with a forced smile.

"Ooh! And mummy, guess what? Uncle Sonic told me that life is such a bitch yesterday! What does bitch mean?" Adam tilted his head to the side curiously.

"Oh, not bitch Adam dear, Sonic had meant to say pitch." The pink female smiled at her son, before looking up and sending death glares at the blue hedgehog who flinched. If looks could kill, poor Sonic would have already bid goodbye to the world.

"What does that mean then?" Adam asked, tilting his head to the other side.

"Pitch could mean a lot of things, for example it's used in music and means the frequency of a sound or note." Amy explained, bending down and kissing his nose when it scrunched up in confusion.

"Oh..." The little boy trailed off, but then his eyes lit up when he remembered another thing. "Ooh! Mummy, yesterday, when me and uncle Sonic were walking home, a big girl passed and uncle Sonic called her a slut... What does that mean?"

"Sonic!" Amy growled under her breath, before smiling down at Adam. "Um... Not slut honey, slug."

"Slug?" Adam repeated in confusion. "Why did uncle Sonic call her that?"

Amy forced a laugh. "I don't know Adam, ask your 'uncle Sonic', maybe HE can tell you why!" She glared again at the cobalt blue hedgehog while mouthing the words 'you're in deep shit'!

"Adam, uh... What I meant by slut-SLUG was that um..." Sonic trailed off, not knowing what to say. "Uh, um... Well-"

"What?" Adam asked, blinking curiously.

"Uh..." Sonic sighed, ignoring the glares he was being given by his pink-haired friend. Seriously, Adam was too curious for his own good! His olive green eyes widened when he knew what to say. "Well, did you see the way her booger was running down her nose?"

"Nooo..." The little green hedgehog looked disgusted.

"That's why I called her a slug... Because she had a slimy booger coming out of her nose like the slimy trail that slugs make!" Sonic finished with a grin.

Amy tried not to laugh, but couldn't help herself as she burst out giggling. That was simply ridiculous! But of course, an innocent kid like Adam would believe anything an idiotic person like Sonic said.

"Mummy, I'm hungry!" Adam whined, tugging at Amy's hand.

"Okay dear, go inside and change your clothes because it's covered in dirt. I'll come too as soon as uncle Sonic brings the pizza." The pink hedgehog smiled, turning to face the blue hedgehog when Adam was gone.

Sonic gulped. "Ames, I-I didn't mean for him to hear any of those-"

"I'll let you off the hook this time Sonic, but if I hear another inappropriate word from Adam's mouth ever again, there will be no mercy!" Amy interrupted him with a small glare, before smiling brightly as if nothing had happened. "So... Will you bring the pizza or should I just cook something? It's not your leftovers, is it?"

"What? Of course not! Two of the boxes are completely unopened! I just hope you and Adam like pepperoni pizza though..." Sonic trailed off, shifting on his other foot.

"Yep, it's good." Amy smiled, watching Sonic turn around to walk off.

"I'll be right back, you can come too if you want." The blue male looked over his shoulder at the pink-haired hedgehog.

"... Did your friend leave?"

"No, he was tired from the flight and said that he would stay in my apartment until he found a place of his own." Sonic answered, turning around so he could look at her properly.

Amy's green eyes showed confusion. "Flight?" Who was this friend of his that she knew nothing about?

"Yeah, he was in America and just arrived in Station Square today." Sonic shrugged, noticing Amy's eyes narrow slightly.

"How do you know him?" She asked curiously.

"We met in second grade and we've been good friends since then." Sonic smiled at the memories, before glancing down at the petite hedgehog before him. "What's with the questions Ames?"

"Nothing, we have the same friends so I was wondering who this new friend of yours was that I knew nothing about. Apparently, you two have known each other more than the others and me." Amy shrugged slightly with a small smile.

"He's sleeping right now, otherwise I would have introduced you to each other-"

"Mum! What's taking so long?" Adam stood in front of the door, already dressed in a pair of dark-coloured trousers with a blue hoodie zipped up halfway, revealing the white top he was wearing underneath.

"I'll bring the pizza right away Ad, just be a little more patient!" Sonic grinned at the little boy, before jogging off.

"Come on Adam honey, let's go inside." Amy smiled and wrapped her left arm around his shoulder, bending down to place a soft kiss on the top of his head. Her heart tightened painfully in her chest when Adam looked up with a grin similar to his father's.

Amy walked out of the bathroom after taking a shower, dressed in her green, silky pyjamas and rubbing her wet pink quills with a towel gently.

Her jade green orbs moved over to the bed where she saw Adam tucked under the covers with only his head visible and staring at the cartoon with wide eyes. She thought that he resembled a caterpillar in a cocoon, which caused her to erupt into loud giggles.

Adam raised his head up and stared at his mother in confusion. "What is it mummy?" He asked, grinning when the pink female's laughter increased. It made him happy and proud to be the cause of his mother's laughter and happiness.

"Oh Adam!" Amy grinned brightly, dropping the towel and jumping on the bed beside him. She squeezed her young son and showered him with kisses all over his face. "What would I do without you?! I love you sooo much!"

"I love you too mummy!" Adam returned her hug, kissing her cheek affectionately.

"I love you more!" Amy pecked his cheek in return

"I love you this much!" Adam opened his arms as wide as he could, smiling widely.

"I love you more than the whole world!" Amy winked, kissing his nose.

"I love you more than you love me!" Adam said smartly, knowing she wouldn't be able to say anything to that.

"I... I love you more than... Aw, you got me sweetie." Amy smiled, running a hand through his quills tenderly. She searched around for the remote using her other hand and turned the TV off. "Go to sleep Adam dear, we need to wake up early tomorrow." She whispered in the dark, kissing his forehead gently and squeezing him lovingly.

Amy was just beginning to drift off into unconsciousness when Adam's innocent voice interrupted the silence:

"Mummy... You always say that I don't have a daddy but how comes my friends have mummies AND daddies?"

Amy froze as tears filled up her eyes. "I-I don't know Adam... You only have me and... Your uncle Sonic is better than any daddy you could have had. Don't forget that you have aunty Blaze, aunty Rouge, uncle Knuckles, uncle Sonic, aunty Cream and uncle Tails... And most importantly, you have me. Please don't ever forget that we love you Adam." A tear fell from her eye and trailed down her cheek.

"All of my friends have aunts and uncles too..." Adam's voice was quiet as he snuggled in the pink hedgehog's arms. "I just wish..." His voice got quieter. "I just wish I had a daddy too..."

A lump formed in Amy's throat as she held back the tears. "Adam?" No response. "Adam?" Again, no answer. "Oh Adam!" Amy burst into tears when she noticed that he had fallen asleep. She sobbed and hugged him. "I wish you could have had a father too Adam..." She choked on a sob as she hugged him tighter.

Amy stiffened when she felt something wet touch her hand as she was stroking his cheek softly. Her tears doubled when she realized that he was crying in his sleep. Kissing his tears away, she cried herself to sleep that night.

Well? How was it? Hopefully the next chap won't take YEARS to be updated. *Cringe* Buuut... I'm over my writer's block, so updating won't take too long. (I knew it was a bad idea to start writing so many stories) I know there isn't much Shadow and Amy interaction going on, but trust me, there soon will be! ;)

To anyone who bothered reading this, please don't forget to leave a review! It makes me smile reading what you guys have to say about the story, thank you!
