Hey guys! So, I am back with the next chapter and I hope it's okay. Please take the warning into account and I have it in bold for a reason. I do not want any of you going into this chapter blindly, so honestly- take the warning into account.
TRIGGER WARNING FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE
With a frown on her lips, the brunette looked down at her watch and a crease appeared between her eyebrows.
"What's the matter?" Elijah asked as he nuzzled her neck even though there were people around.
"Caroline isn't here yet." She answered, genuinely worried as she tapped her foot on the ground and checked her phone yet again.
"I'm sure she's on her way, darling. There is no reason to be worried." He reassured her as he gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"Elijah, I have a bad feeling… I feel like something has happened to her."
"If you have a bad feeling, why not just call her up?" He offered as he motioned towards her purse.
"Of course!" She cried out as she opened the purse and reached for her cellphone. "Call Care Bear," Katherine told Siri.
"Calling Care Bear," Siri responded.
Placing the phone to her ear, she held her breath as she waited to hear her best friend's voice. When the phone went to message, she swallowed the lump that was beginning to form in her throat.
"Something's wrong." She told Elijah. "I have to go find her- will you help me?"
"Katarina, you look terribly worried. Perhaps Caroline's battery died?" He said, but she shook her head quickly.
"Something's wrong, Elijah." She said. "We have to find her and we have to make sure that she's okay." The brunette told him as she took ahold of his hand and started walking in the direction of the dorm buildings.
"Going somewhere?" Klaus asked, stopping them in their tracks.
"Get out of the way, Klaus." Katherine ordered as she looked up at him with anger in her brown eyes.
"What the bloody hell have I ever done to you, Kitty Kat? I thought we've been getting along fairly well." He argued.
"We have been getting along fairly well until you decided to embarrass my best friend because of the way she dressed. You don't do something like that and get away with it, Klaus. You hurt Caroline and she's had enough hurting to last her a lifetime!" She cried out as her hands clenched into fists and she eyed him with pure anger in her doe brown eyes. Katherine knew that Caroline would never be able to forgive Klaus and the sooner he knew that, the better.
"I am sorry for what I did to her, but I can't say that I wasn't attracted to her even when she was dressed like an old woman."
"So what you're telling me is that even though you invited Caroline to this little party that the immature lot of you were throwing, you still thought she was pretty?" She asked, sounding defensive.
Because who in the hell even did that! Especially when he thought that said girl was attractive no matter how she dressed.
"Exactly," he nodded sharply. "I wanted Caroline as my date because I knew that she would be the prettiest and I didn't want her to be named the ugliest girl in Michigan State."
"You're going to have to forgive me since I don't believe you. You're an asshole, Klaus. You only care about yourself and frankly I am happy that Caroline met another guy who actually seems to genuinely care for her."
"You think that bloke Alex cares for her, do you? Well you're mistaken! It's obvious that all he wants is to get into her pants and instead of being a good friend and protecting her from such douchebags, you have actually given your blessing. What does that say about you?"
"Now is not the time to get all defensive, Klaus. Caroline should have been here by now, but she isn't which is why Elijah and I are going to look for her."
"You think something has happened to her?" He wondered, the curiosity evident in his accented voice.
"Not that it's any of your business, but yes. Caroline received a phone call a while ago and the person on the other end of the line was simply breathing."
"What does this phone call have to do with anything?" Klaus asked. "Perhaps whomever it was dialed the wrong number or perhaps they were trying to be funny and prank called her."
"You don't understand and it isn't my place to make you understand, but before we came here, Caroline was going through some stuff with her ex-boyfriend and the end result was him losing everything that he worked for. I have no doubt in my mind that he is here right now and that scares the crap out of me. He was never right in the head and I am certain that he holds a grudge against Caroline. He may hurt her," Katherine finished on a shaky breath as her bottom lip began to tremble as well as her hands.
Elijah took ahold of his girlfriend's hands and looked at her with concern.
"Everything will be alright, Katarina… We'll find Caroline and we'll make sure that she is safe. There is nothing to worry about." He reassured her even though he wasn't so sure.
If what Katherine was saying was true- and it most definitely was- then Caroline was in danger. After all, a man on a mission to destroy those who wronged him wouldn't care what happened in the future, he would only be thinking about the present.
"I'll help you." Klaus told them even though he had a meeting planned with some girl on the cheerleading squad in approximately five minutes.
"We don't need your help." Katherine hissed, the anger evident in her voice. "You've done enough and it's not like you care about my best friend to begin with."
"You may think that I am an asshole, but I'm worried about Caroline. You may not believe me and that's your right, but I won't be deterred."
"Fine, you can help us." Katherine sighed warily as she pressed her fingers to her throbbing temples.
"Perfect," he smiled. "But maybe you should give us a better description of this ex-boyfriend?"
"Of course," she nodded before she looked around the area and noticed that there were some people watching them with curiosity. "I'll tell you more about him, but first I recommend we find a quieter place. I don't need the others to overhear our conversation."
"Good idea," Klaus announced. "You've finally chosen a girl with brains, 'Lijah. I see progress," he winked, trying to sound unbothered, but the truth was that he was pretty worried about the girl who seemed to despise him with every fiber of her being, but of course she had a valid reason as to why.
Both Elijah and Katherine decided to ignore Klaus and when they got closer to the quad and found it deserted, Katherine went over to a bench and sat down.
"Caroline's ex-boyfriend is broad of built and is of average height. He has brown hair and brown eyes and he sounds like any other football player would."
"So, what you're saying is that this fellow sounds like me? Minus the accent, I presume."
"Yep," she chirped. "You're cocky and you think you're funny and that is exactly how Tyler always acted back home in Mystic Falls."
"Tyler?" Klaus asked, the curiosity evident in his voice as he thought about the guy that he met just yesterday.
"You said that he is broad of built and of average height, yes?" He asked as his palms grew sweaty because if she was talking about the same guy that approached him on the bench, then he literally placed Caroline into his lap when he told her that she lived on campus.
"Yeah," she nodded.
"Brother, are you alright?" Elijah asked, the worry evident in his voice. "You look as if you've seen a ghost."
"I think I know this guy." He told them and they both looked at the other with confusion in their eyes.
"How?" The brunette questioned, her voice taking on an unsure tone as she waited for Klaus to continue on with whatever he was saying.
"Yesterday, I was sitting at a bench when some guy approached me. He sat down beside me and he fits the description that you have given, Katherine." Klaus announced and Katherine gasped and began shaking her head.
"He'll kill her." Katherine cried out. "If he is here and he has her then he will kill her. He has some sick revenge plot in mind and Caroline can't go through this. She had enough in Mystic Falls and I am telling you that if we don't find her soon, we'll never find her alive."
"Stop, love." Elijah said. "Surely, this man will not kill Caroline… Why would he? Caroline is an innocent in all of this."
"She is, but he blames her for everything that has gone wrong in his life. You know, he was the greatest football player at Mystic Falls High, and there were people that wanted him to join the NFL.. He also succeeded, but they took back their invitation when they learned of what he had done and he snapped, guys. Tyler snapped and I have no doubt in my mind that he is here to finish Caroline off. Oh my god, poor Caroline! She doesn't deserve this- she doesn't! She is one of the kindest people in the world-"
"Stop," Klaus shouted furiously. "You have to go into this with a clear head- one wrong move and Caroline may indeed end up dead." He told her.
"You're right," she hiccuped. "Of course you're right," she whispered.
"It would be better if we split," Klaus stated. "I'll go alone and Katherine you have to stay with my brother for your own protection."
"But the two of you won't be able to cover as much if I don't go my own way." She argued, but Klaus held up a finger.
"We'll be fine. Now go search in the buildings and cafeteria. I'll search the dorms as well as the gym and if I don't find her, I'll keep looking."
"Why are you doing this?" Katherine wondered. "Why are you acting like you care?"
"Because I do, dammit. None of this should have ever happened. If something happens to Caroline it will be my fault and I'll not have that on my conscious." He said with finality before he took off.
Caroline came to and felt the painful throbbing in her head as she looked out into the darkness.
The blonde didn't know where she was, but she was fairly certain that she was still at the university.
"Welcome back, sweet pea." A familiar voice said and she felt a shiver run down her spine as she realized that all she thought was a nightmare was indeed true.
"Tyler," she whispered as he came towards her with something in his hands.
"Miss me?" He asked, sounding as charming as ever, but Caroline knew him for who he was.
"What do you want?" She asked, cutting to the chase even though it would have probably been wiser to put him off until somebody found her.
But who is going to find you? They are all at the bonfire and those that aren't have better things to do.
"Come on, Care! We haven't seen each other in months and personally I have missed you very much."
"You could have just called." She countered.
"Oh, I did, but I couldn't bring myself to say anything because I wanted to see your face."
"Well here I am, so why don't you remove these bindings and we can have a civilized conversation."
"Oh, no." He shook his head. "I won't be taking that risk especially since I know that you're trying to think of a way to get out of this situation, but it only ends one way- you dead and me happy."
"So, that is what this is about? You want me dead, so you have brought me here to finish me off?"
"Yep," he nodded boyishly and Caroline's hands clenched into fists no matter how tight the bindings were.
"Do you hear yourself? Do you truly think that a fully competent person would speak of death so easily and without any emotion? You're sick, Tyler. You need help."
His brown eyes darkened further and he came towards her like a panther did his prey.
"If I were you, I wouldn't provoke me. Do you know why?" He questioned as he got on his knees in order to be eye to eye with her.
"Why?" She asked even though she didn't want to.
"Because I'm the one that holds your life in my hands." He simply answered and she tried to move back as his fingers grazed her chin.
He held her chin tightly in his fingers and she cried out when he used too much pressure.
"I like those little sounds of yours, baby girl. Remember our joinings? They were always so wonderful, but I was upset when I found out that I was not the first man you gave yourself to."
"You may have been upset, but I have never been happier. You didn't deserve to take my virginity and the guy that did, deserved it, so too bad."
Sighing, he sat back and crossed his legs before he looked over at her again.
"But he died, didn't he?" He asked. "Daniel Braeden was killed in a car accident and you were right there beside him when that happened. It was your fault, too… The two of you were fighting and he lost control of the wheel."
"Stop," she choked out as she thought about her first love. It was getting harder to picture him in her mind, but Daniel never deserved to die and Tyler was right- it was her fault.
"It's true, though. You tried to forget about that time in your life, didn't you? After all, you were only sixteen when it occurred."
"I never tried to forget him," she cried out. "Daniel was good and he didn't deserve what happened to him."
"Perhaps not, but that's not how life works. Life's not fair and you must understand why I am here. You ruined my life when everybody found out about the sex tape."
"You were the one that filmed that tape, Tyler. You can't blame me for something I didn't know about."
"As a matter of fact, I can and I will. Now, how about we move to the closing segment of the evening?" He questioned as the knife in his hand flashed and she recoiled in fear.
"I was going to shoot you, but thought better of it… I find that I don't wish you to suffer, I simply want you dead."
"Please don't do this." She begged him even though she should have stayed silent.
Caroline wasn't yet ready to meet her maker, but she feared that that was exactly what was going to happen.
"I will, but not yet. I thought I'd give you some pleasure before your death, after all." He smirked as he pushed her towards the floor.
"No," she said, but that only made him want her more and she knew that he wanted her because of his evident arousal. She tried to fight him off with her feet, but the rope that bound them kept her from doing so.
With a smirk, he pushed her skinny jeans down and her underwear followed as his hands went to his own jeans. Then, he put the blade to her throat...
At that moment, Caroline gave up and lay back with her eyes closed. She thought about nothing, but she was so far removed from what was happening in actuality that she didn't realize that his weight was no longer on her.
Her eyes drifted open and she heard Tyler crash against the wall
Niklaus Mikaelson stood over her with a foreboding expression on his face and before she could say anything, he was turning back in Tyler's direction with anger in his stormy blue-gray eyes.
He charged with his fists clenched and as Tyler pointed the knife at him, he snatched it out of his hands and put it in his back pocket.
"You'll pay for this." Klaus promised before he knocked him senseless.
When Tyler was unconscious, he turned back to Caroline and made his way over to her. He cut the bindings from her feet and hands. Then, he took off his jacket and draped it over her trembling body.
Afterwards, he helped her to her feet and she quickly did up her underwear and jeans.
"I'm sorry that I didn't arrive earlier." He whispered.
"You arrived r-right on ti-time." She told him before she swooned and fell into oblivion.
There you have it! I hope that you all took the warning into account.
