Hello my lovelies! So, I am finally back with an update and I hope you guys enjoy this chapter. It isn't very long, but I think it isn't so bad. Enjoy!

"Caroline, I won't let him hurt you. I'll protect you." He reassured her as he took ahold of her hand, but she wouldn't meet his stormy blue-gray eyes.

"Maybe it's better if I return to Mystic Falls. I don't want you getting dragged into this, Klaus. You have a life here." She replied as a glassy look took over her eyes.

"No, you are not going to go anywhere. You have a life here too and I'll be damned if I will allow some nut job to ruin that for you. You've been through so much already. I won't let him hurt you."

"That isn't up to you, Klaus." She responded, finally looking into his eyes. "Tyler is going to find me and he is going to make sure that he hurts me. Don't you get it? I'm the weak link here. I have to go." She announced as she stood up and shook his hand off of her wrist. "I won't take you down with me."

"I'm not letting you go." He emphasized. "I know what I am getting into, Caroline, and I am not scared. I am going to find a way to protect you from him and if he so much as dares come near you, I'll end him."

"End him? You'd commit murder for me if you had to? Listen to yourself, Klaus. You need to think about your life, not mine. I will deal with this somehow."

"Caroline, I am going to stay by your side every step of the way and that is final. You're the woman that I love! I'm not going to let him hurt you."

"L- love?" She stammered, the shock evident in her eyes. "You love me?"

"Of course I do! I have for a long time actually." He confessed as he caressed her cheek gently.

Leaning towards his palm, she looked up at him through teary eyes and he smiled at her.

"I love you, Caroline. I do and that is why I will not let you face this alone. We will get through this and when we do I am going to make sure to show you everyday how much I love you."

"I- I don't know what to say." Caroline confessed, her thoughts all over the place.

"I know that you do not love me back, Caroline. And that's okay. If you ever do fall in love with me, I'll be the happiest man on earth, but if not then I'll still cherish our moments forever." He reassured her as he wiped the tears from her cheeks.

"I love you, you fool. Of course I do. How could I not? Our relationship may have started off badly, but we're past that now. We're new people."

"We are," he smiled. "And again, I am so so sorry for putting you through what I did while we were in college. I was a stupid kid that wanted to prove myself to my fraternity brothers."

"I understand," she reassured as she gave his hand a squeeze.

Klaus smiled at her and gave her a kiss on the lips. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer, their chests touching.

Suddenly, Caroline felt exhausted and Klaus realized that which is why he picked her up and held her close to his chest.

"Let's get you to bed, love. You must be exhausted after the day you had."

"I am," she confessed as she touched his chest with a small smile on her lips. "Have you been working out?" The blonde asked out of nowhere and Klaus chuckled.

"I have," he nodded as he began making his way towards her bedroom. When they got there, he pulled the covers from the bed and lay her gently down on the bed.

Her eyes closed and just as he was going to leave her to her rest, she reached for his hand.

"Stay," she whispered barely loud enough for him to hear her.

"Okay," he answered and she moved enough to give him the space to lay down beside her.

He put his arm around her waist and pulled her closer. Kissing her hair, he tightened his hold on her and she sighed before her breathing evened out and she drifted off to sleep. A couple of minutes later he did the same…

The next morning, Klaus awoke to the sun glistening in his face. He looked down at Caroline and smiled before he slowly removed his hand from around her waist.

He slowly got up off of the bed and stealthily made his way out of the bedroom and into the bathroom. He washed his face and brushed his teeth and then moved into the living room.

He spotted the food from the night before and groaned.

It was as good as spoiled at this point, he realized, which is why he reached for the plastic bag and placed the spoiled food in it."

Then he moved into the kitchen and threw the plastic bag out. He heard Caroline shuffling about and turned on the coffee maker because he was certain that they both needed it.

Caroline went about her business and came out dressed in her pajamas. She made her way into the kitchen and immediately walked over to Klaus.

"You okay?" He asked, the worry evident in his voice as he watched her with bated breath.

"I'm okay, Klaus. Really I am." She reassured him as she pressed her lips to his cheek."

With a sigh of relief, Klaus hugged her close and they stayed that way for some time.

"I made coffee." He announced as he went over to the cabinet and took out two mugs.

He washed the mugs before he put them on the counter and then he poured coffee for the both of them.

"Milk?" He asked as he made his way to the refrigerator.

"Yes please. Extra."

"Of course," he chuckled as he poured the milk until the coffee became a creamy color. He poured himself a small amount of milk and then he reached for the sugar cubes and threw five into his mug while he put two in Caroline's mug.

"I'll never understand why you put so much sugar."

Caroline said, a grin playing on her lips.

"Sugar is my best friend, love."

"I thought I was." She challenged.

"You were, but I'd like to think that I can now call you my girlfriend if you don't object."

"Of course not. I meant what I said last night, Klaus. Trust me, I didn't say it because I was overwhelmed with everything. I said it because it's true. I do love you, Klaus. I think we can actually make this work."

"As do I," he smiled as he moved closer to her and kissed her on the forehead.

The two drank their coffee and soon thereafter, Caroline was making her way into the bedroom in order to change for work. Klaus did the same and pulled on a pair of worn out jeans and his favorite gray Henley.

When Caroline was ready, she came out into the living room and Klaus looked her up and down appreciatively."

"You look amazing, love." He complimented and Caroline smiled.

She wore black pants and a red top as well as her cute black heels. Her hair was curled to perfection and though she wore some light makeup, she looked great.

"Thank you." She said, moving towards Klaus to give him a kiss goodbye.

Their lips met and Klaus placed his hands on her waist as she wrapped her arms around his neck. They kissed one another passionately and when they parted, Caroline opened her mouth to say goodbye.

"I'd like to walk you to work, Care. If you don't mind of course. How does that sound?"

"It sounds good. Thanks, Klaus. And I mean for absolutely everything that you have done for me so far."

"You don't have to thank me, Caroline." He reassured her.

Soon thereafter, they were kissing each other goodbye.

"I'll be here at five to pick you up, love. Afterwards, I'd like to go to the gallery with you."

"Sounds like a plan." Caroline said before she gave him one more kiss and ran into the building where she worked.

She entered the elevator and leaned against the wall as a smile played on her lips.

She really believed that she could make her relationship with Klaus work. Yes, when they had first met he had thought it would have been funny to bring her to a party where stupid guys would choose which brother had brought the least attractive girl, but she truly believed that he was no longer that type of person.

With that thought in mind, she moved towards her cubicle and sat down. Soon thereafter, she was sketching some of her designs and was hoping that by the end of the day, she would be done with her portfolio. After all, she was just about ready to go up to her boss, the famous fashion designer Elle Turner with her eyes. Hopefully, Elle would feature her designs…

When Caroline returned to her cubicle at approximately two in the afternoon, she spotted of bouquet of roses on her desk. Moving over to the bouquet hesitantly, she spotted the little note card and took it out curiously.

Unfolding the note, she gasped in horror at the red font.

The card read:

Did you miss me, baby girl? 'Cuz I missed you and can't wait to see you again.

She felt the color drain from her face and she stumbled back a step and as luck would have it, bumped into her boss.

"Oh!" The Raven-haired woman cried out as she pushed the blonde away gently.

"Oh my god." Caroline said. "I am so sorry, Miss Turner. I- I didn't mean to bump into you."

"It's alright," Elle reassured. "But Caroline, you look as though you've seen a ghost. Are you alright?"

"I- no, I'm not." The blonde confessed as her hands began to shake.

Elle quickly led Caroline into her office and shut the door before moving towards the couch. When the two women were sitting, Elle looked at Caroline and saw the tears glistening in her bright blue eyes.

"What's the matter?" Elle asked, the confusion evident in her voice.

"I- Miss Turner. May I be excused for the remainder of the day?"

"Of course, but you must tell me what is going on. Has something happened?"

"Yes, Miss Turner. I- I can't talk about it right now, I'm sorry."

"I understand," Elle nodded. "Please take the rest of the day off and if you're ready, we will speak tomorrow."

"Thank you, Miss Turner."

"Call me Elle. We're practically the same age."

A small smile appeared on the blonde's lips and she gave her a slight nod.

Then, Caroline stood up and left the office feeling as though she was in a trance that she couldn't get out of.

Caroline knew that Tyler would be out eventually because of what the man said last night, but she didn't expect it to be so soon. How was she supposed to go about her days calmly when in reality she was frightened beyond belief?

Tyler was a madman and madmen did bad things to good people… Would he succeed in getting the revenge he so desired? Would he not allow himself to be treated until she was six feet underground?

All of these questions ran through her mind and before she knew it, she was standing outside of the gallery.

She pushed the door open ano entered the gallery with a frown on her lips. She had a feeling that something was very wrong…

Moving further into the gallery, she spotted a body on the floor and immediately moved towards it, her heart rate accelerating…

She saw Klaus lying there with his face pale and she cried out as she moved towards him. The back of his head was bleeding profusely and she immediately moved to check the pulse at his throat.

His breathing was steady, but she knew that he needed a hospital. Taking out her cell phone she dialed 911 and told the dispatcher the address.

Then she tried to wake Klaus, but the only response she received was a groan.

"Oh dear god, this is all my fault." She cried out as she put her face in her hands.

She had to protect this wonderful man and the only way was to leave him… Yes, she would leave him even if it broke her heart into a million little pieces...

There you have it, my sweetlings. So, Klaus has been hurt and Caroline is realizing that it is time she dealt with Tyler on her own. I hope to have the next chapter written very soon, but I am working on my other stories as well.
