Chapter 3 – Here we go
Victoria POV (4 Years Ago- 2008)
"—name is Carlisle Cullen and this is my wife Esme. These are my adopted children, Edward, Rosalie, Jasper, Emmett, and Alice. We had some family business to attend here and ran into you coincidently and we were catching up. However, you lost your balance going up the flight of stairs by running into someone and we were unable to stop you fall. We stayed because we felt responsible for what happened to you"
I scoffed softly, not wanting the other vampires to know I'm right down the hall. That's the explanation they're going to give?
Ridiculous. Even other humans don't believe that horrendous story.
I've been looking for Dmitri for two years until I met up with James and the whole James hunting Bella thing happened right under my nose. I wanted to beat myself up.
Dmitri will hate me once he knows what happens to his kin.
I swore to him I would take care of her, not that I needed to, she was my child as well, not in blood but in soul.
I never knew Bella was being compelled again because she seemed like she was stressed out and I don't blame her, not after what happened, but I should have gone and visited her in person instead of taking emails and phone calls.
Reaching to and wanting to take one of those expensive machines and beat myself with it until I heard a gasp.
I knew it was that pixie one. Hearing from Dmitiri and the Volturi I knew she was having a vision. Also knowing the mind reader was in the room, I glanced a small peak at the vision. I don't have strong mind reading abilities as it is tricky business with my memory alteration but if I concentrate enough I can see something. Seeing as a vision is programed into the memory, it allows me a glimpse of the vision. But it was like seeing through blindfolds with only a small hole viewing through the fog.
I saw a figure running, and I know that figure. I watched it grow. It was Bella and the speed she was going was not human.
I did what I knew had to be done. I blocked the mind reader from seeing more.
I concentrated enough during the same time to alter the pixie's memories of that particular vision. I worked hard and altered it to Bella getting discharged from the hospital.
Once I knew the vision ended by the conversation I let go of the shield.
Unable to alter the mind-reader's memories because of his ability I hoped he would let it go and chalk it up to something he envisioned.
I heard the room open and close and look to see the mind reader look angry and disappointed. I hid quickly and he was so distraught he didn't catch my scent.
For a bunch of vampires, they don't rely on their sense much… Even at the ballet studio, I was clearly there helping Bella stay alive and I was in too much of a hurry to cover my scent. Even if they did smell me, they would believe I was on James' side.
"Please Bella, you really don't remember anything? Not even Biology?" I heard a high pitched voice asking.
"No I'm sorry Allison, it doesn't ring a bell"
"Alice"
"I'm sorry?"
"My name is Alice, not Allison"
"Oh my mistake. I apologize" The tone was anything but sorry. I know that tone. She's lying. She remembers them, but how much does she remember?
Couple more minutes of useless small talk and the Cullen family was getting ready to leave.
As Carlisle was the last to leave, he said finally to Bella "I know it seems we were not close, but if you do remember anything or have any questions please don't hesitate to call this number at any time. I hope for a swift recovery" I heard a shuffling and a rustle of paper.
As the Cullens left the room, I walked in confidently.
"Victoria?" Renee called out.
"Hey ReRe, how's my favorite human?"
"I'm the only human you tolerate"
"Which makes you my favorite." Touching her nose slightly.
"Hey Vicky, what are you doing here? What if they caught your scent?" Bella asked.
I finally turn to her. My heart drops. I see her leg up in a holster with a cast that's twice the width of her actual leg and bruises all over her body. Her face had a couple bruises but was turning green and yellow, a sign it was almost healed.
"Oh my birdie, I'm so sorry I couldn't stop James. I knew he loves the hunt, but I clearly said you were off limits. I never told him why but nothing could steer him away from you. Your blood sang to him. As it will for everyone but he was a maniac who loves the game."
I walked over to her slowly and sat down on her unaffected leg side gently. Putting the plush bear I got from the gift shop that says "Get well soon, Beary soon" and a bouquet of flowers on the counter next to her as I freed my hand to run it up and down her hair.
"It's okay Vicky. It wasn't your fault. I knew you were preoccupied looking for Dmitri and I'm quite glad the James thing happened. He knocked my head hard enough for me to not become dazzled by Edward. How is the search for Dmitri going?"
"I'm also sorry I didn't notice the change for you being dazzled. I'm a terrible vampire guardian aren't I? I just searched Rome, the last place we set up a rendezvous. I know for 80% that he's being held at the Volturi now. There's no way he would go this long without any communication."
"Vicky. It's not your fault! It's mine for thinking my mind could take it. I thought too highly of myself. Let's go to Italy and get him back together." Bella said.
"Italy? Oh heavens no Bella. You can barely sit up and you want to go to Italy. The most infested vampire city in the world?" Renee commented.
"Well, Vicky is going to make it up to me by waiting for me to be all healed up before going. I can't go back to high school. Especially since the supernatural world keeps showing up. I have to have some normality and I want to travel the world. And what better place is safer than two vampire guardians?" Bella retaliated.
Renee sighed, knowing she lost.
She nodded reluctantly and I nodded as well, agreeing to her plan on getting healed up.
The search for my mate will be suspended while I help Bella heal. Dmitri will understand and would probably suggest this solution if he was here.
The next 6 months went by a blur. The doctors couldn't understand her fast recovery and I wasn't going to say anything. If the humans ever really knew why she was healing so fast, she would be sent to an underground experiment lab sanctioned by the government for testing or worse, the asylum.
Once 6 months past, it was packing up her human life, and saying goodbye to her parents. Bella wasn't sure if she is going to be back within the next 4 years because of all the things she wants to do, but she promised to keep in touch and phone once a week.
Renee tried to be strong, but once we left the driveway, I heard hysterical cries from inside the house and Charlie being strong for her saying It was always meant to be this way. You have to let her do this.
Bella looked over at me with tears in her eyes.
She was quiet and spoke softly.
"Here we go".
Alright. End of chapter 3.
Sneak peek for Chapter 4
As the years went by and Victoria became an extended family member was when Renee and Charlie felt comfortable telling her a little of myself. When they divorced, they promised to keep in touch. They never gave Victoria my full name until I was 9. To her, I was always her little birdie Bella.
Once the name Isabella Marie Swan was said to her, it was all they needed to say. She was confused at first because she knows she has heard that name before. The familiarity of it was annoying her until she remembered her newborn years.
