Bank holiday, so technically it's the weekend. This is the last completed chapter of this story, so from now on updates probably won't be so regular anymore.

1970
It had been more than a decade since they had last seen each other.
One morning shortly after Christmas she had walked out through the kitchens and passed the old servants quarters, heading towards the stables, and it wasn't until she was so close that she could smell the horses that she remembered that he wouldn't he there. She turned around and walked back to the house.
Now here he stood in front of her husband. The man she married and her childhood best friend.
She had been told that a high ranking military official from Spain would be attending an interview at the palace today but she never considered that it might be him.
He cut an impressive figure, tall and proud with his shoulders squared. His uniform was pressed to within an inch of its life and every bit of metal caught the mid morning sun, glittering brightly.
"Ah, Clarisse, perfect timing. Joseph, let me introduce my wife, Clarisse. Clarisse, meet our new head of security, Colonel Joseph Romero."
He turned to her and before she could say anything he dropped into a low bow. She automatically offered her hand and he took it, pressing a chaste kiss to her knuckles before releasing her again. When he straightened up he met her eyes.
"A pleasure to make your acquaintance, your majesty."
