It was hideous. That... thing... was not a pikmin. It was an abomination. There were eight long arms jutting from the neck, with a teardrop body hanging underneath. I could hear the Onions laughing. My connection with the Simbiotes wasn't fully developed, so I couldn't understand Olimar or Louie's thoughts, but I could imagine they were pretty disturbed. I thought I had done everything right. Every protein, every gene. It should have been perfect. Was it... no. That gene had nothing to do with limb structure. But I did something wrong, and I cost Olimar a pikmin.

I could tell Olimar was confused when I didn't return to the Yellow Onion the night before. Louie had gripped the older captain's shoulder, and shook his head. Reluctantly, Olimar followed his co-worker to his ship - We called it the 'Carrot', out of Olimar's name for us- and blasted off. I planted myself after the ship had left, so they hadn't seen the act, but I can imagine they got a clue upon seeing a Yellow Candypop bud the next day. After Olimar furiously scribbled notes, he grabbed a red pikmin, and threw it into my vastly enlarged flower. You know the rest of the story.

-Oh, that is awesome. It's like that human superhero- the Red Onion, Brisingr, laughed, -Maybe we'll get an evil one of those if Olimar sneezes on one of our pikmin-

-Come to think of it, wasn't the simbiote that possessed Venom CALLED a Simbiote?- The blue Onion chirped.

-Hey, that's right- Brisingr replied, -Oh sh--

-You know, I'm feeling crummy enough as it is. I don't need you're jokes- I stated. The Red Onion chortled.

-You don't understand. We're not laughing at you, just at your pikmin. It's funny!- Brisingr remarked, -Look. EVERYONE goofs up their first pikmin, that's why the Candypop Bud stage exists. It's not easy recombining protein into another living organism. For someone with no experience, I find it amazing that you did that well."

It made me feel better. There was a reason the Red Onion was put in charge of all of the pikmin, and it wasn't just becasue Olimar kept finding him first. In the timeline when the War happened, Brisingr was one of the leading generals. Even after humanity introduced pikavores into the world, he still chose to fight until it became apparent it would only kill him. He was our best guy, and he wasn't stupid. At that moment, I felt confident that the Red Onion could cheer up a cloud.I looked at my pikmin. It was kind of funny...

This is one of the four fics I am considering starting. I only want to continue working on one. Hence, if it's not too troubling, some feedback would be greatly appreciated. If you are feeling really kind, you could always visit the poll in my profile, maybe check out some of the other fics.
