(Flashback)

(Legendaries' Meeting Hall, 4:00 p.m.)

"Legendaries!"

All of them snapped to attention, reminding DL a lot of an army of Pokemon, and she stifled a laugh by biting her tongue and trying to look seriously up to the God Pokemon that had called for their attention, mindful of the Egg that she now carried for Manaphy, stuck down her hoodie for safety and discretion. Of course, a giant lump on the front of her hoodie that didn't look natural could bring up questions, but…oh, well. The white quadruped looked down at all of them with a stern look on his face, but then it softened into a smile as he told them, "I forgot to mention this earlier, but I have decided that now you shall have Pokemon assisting you in your work, seeing as how that, even with all of your powers, problems still arise." Instead of an angry glare, his amused gaze went through the crowd of nervous Legendaries who shuffled their feet or coughed nervously, and DL smiled at the thoughtful look on Mewtwo's face. Heh, he must be thinking of when he tried to destroy the humans…. (A/N: Wait…wasn't everyone's memories wiped? So how does she know about this? Hmm…the mysteries of this girl…) Smiling happily, she patted the Genetic Legendary on the back encouragingly, and he looked down at her oddly before shaking his head and turning his attention back to Arceus and his important speech.

"…and even the strongest of creatures needs some help at times." He gave a nod as if agreeing with himself on something before he turned to look behind him and said, "Now, I have already assigned some Legendaries to their assistants, and I feel that it isn't fair to not give the same privilege to the others. So, I have found the perfect Pokemon to help their respected Legendary, and there will be no switching or trading. Got it?" Everyone grumbled a bit reluctantly, and Arceus repeated sternly, "Got it?"

"Yes, Arceus," all of the Legendaries, even Mewtwo, said it simultaneously and reluctantly.

"Good!" A smile on his face that contrasted from most of the other Legendaries, he moved to the left side of the pedestal and waved a golden hoof for the Pokemon that had been waiting patiently (or not) behind him to get closer to the front, and as they did he informed the others, "Here are the assistants that I have assigned to the rest of you Legendaries.

"First of all, I would like to introduce Hunter." The Ghost-Type moved forward a bit to distinguish himself from the rest and floated there nervously as all of the Legendaries stared at him curiously. "He shall be assigned to Darkrai, the Dark Prince of Nightmares."

Curious murmurs went throughout the crowd, and the Dark Prince himself asked cautiously, "But, Arceus, I already have an assistant – Arc." The Absol herself stepped forward from behind him, nodding her head as if annoyed that her 'superior' was getting another assistant.

Arceus sighed as if knowing he'd have to choose his words wisely, and he told him, "Yes, and I know that she is a wonderful assistant." The Absol puffed her chest out proudly, but it was soon deflated when the God Pokemon added, "But, I know there are some things that even she can't do, such as walk through walls, and besides he would be a valuable asset to your image." He raised an eyebrow teasingly at Darkrai and kidded, "After all, not only does the Prince of Nightmares have the Disaster Pokemon by his side, but he has a Haunter as well. The 'essence' of scary, right?"

Darkrai only crossed his arms and shrugged, while Arc's fur bristled up like needles as a furious and outraged look came across her expression. She looked as if she was about to pounce the Haunter that floated over to be beside his new 'assistee', but Darkrai gave her a dark (heh) glare and she huffed and grumbled dark (haha) things to herself as the next new assistant came up. He was a strong-looking Charizard who had his arms crossed coolly as he glanced around the room, seeming unfazed expect for the small sweatdrop that only DL seemed to notice. She smiled up at him, and when his eyes eventually fell on her he blinked in confusion before snorting and looking away.

"This is Inferno," Arceus told the Legendaries, "and he is assigned to Moltres."

"Hey," Zapdos complained loudly as the Fire Lizard flew over to Moltres' side, "what about me?"

"You and Articuno get one as well," Arceus calmly informed her, "and everyone shall have at least one assistant by the time this is over."

"I have one question," Cresselia's honey-like voice spoke up, and eyes all turned to her as she asked carefully, "What will happen if our assistant…becomes deceased?"

Arceus was quiet for a moment, and Inferno had a quite funny nervous face on (eyes slightly wide, huge frown on his face, sweatdrop) that made DL have to shove her fist into her mouth to stop herself from laughing. Then, the hoofed Pokemon simply stated, "We will deal with that when the times comes." The Metallic Swan bowed her head and was silent as they continued on with the ceremony.

"This is Striker," Arceus motioned towards a Dragonite who waved nervously towards the crowd in front of him, "and he is assigned to Zapdos."

"Oh, man," the Electric-Type pouted as the dragon came to rest beside her and the other two Birds, "not a goody-two-shoes…."

"We think alike," Darkrai mumbled to himself, but DL heard it, and she grinned from behind him and thought, I can't wait to spend a day with him! Who knows what type of fun I'll have!

"And here is Mirror to be assigned to Articuno," the God Pokemon said as a Glaceon elegantly walked up to the front to stand with her head up proudly, displaying her confidence. Then, she leapt forward with a powerful push of her hind-legs and proceeded to use Groudon's shoulder as leverage to leap onto Palkia's back so she could slide on Cresselia's back and land gently beside her new boss, all without missing a beat. She even looked up at the Ice Bird and asked him, "So what's new, Chief?" It was quite a feat to do that without fear of the Continent Pokemon's Fire Blast or Cresselia's wrath and even more amazing at her size. Everyone assumed there was a reason her name was Mirror.

"Now, since we are on the topic of Eeveelutions," DL was surprised that the God Pokemon used a term that seemed so human, "I would like to introduce the others we have on our staff. First up is Kitsune, who will aide Entei." The Flareon just stood there and blinked as she looked around the room, carefully leaping down from the pedestal before calmly walking over to the Fire Lion's side, all without saying a word. He gave a curt nod to her, and she gave one back, and it was obvious that they were a perfect match.

"And this is Kat." A Jolteon walked up eagerly, her wide grin showing her feelings on the situation. "She will be assigned to Raikou." Her face faulted for a moment, but she gave a small sigh and a shrug before running over to the Thunder Tiger and bumping her nose against his flank to give him a small jolt (haha). He blinked, but then smiled and did the same to her, but she leapt nearly three feet in the air and almost fell on her belly, and when he tilted his head to the side in confusion she said with wide eyes, "Whoa, talk about a quick energizer!"

Arceus gave a short grin before turning to introduce a Vaporeon who had already walked up. "This would be Kake, who, obviously, will be Suicune's assistant." Kake gave a small smile to the Water Wolf and bowed her head before walking with a dignity that made sense for such a beautiful creature, bounding down the gargantuan stairs and landing without a fault that made DL want to scratch her under her chin and spoil her. She does seem to be like Suicune, in a way.

"Here is Dawn –" an Espeon walked up and bowed her head, "and Dusk –" an Umbreon rolled her eyes and scoffed, "and they will work with Ho-oh and Lugia respectively." Dawn's jewel on her head glowed as she Teleported herself to the Golden Rooster's side while Dusk just used a Faint Attack to disappear from view, and they both appeared at the same time beside the Precious Bird Duo. Quite a team, those two, DL thought with approval, remembering how she had watched an elite trainer using the two Eeveelutions that seemed unstoppable. I'd love to have a team as cool as that…but, meh, I have Butterscotch and….

Slowly, a frown came upon her face as she realized that that was it; it would only be her and her Raichu from now on. Hunter's gonna stay with Darkrai and I'll only see him every once in a while…. A feeling of sadness began to wash over her as she tightened her protective hold on the Egg under her shirt, but after a moment she shook it off as she thought, well, it's my fault either way; I volunteered him, and besides he's a big boy – he can take care of himself! And, she smiled a little, I can, too. Feeling slightly better, she shook her head and paid attention once more as a Leafeon was running down a wondrous path of vines and leaves that ended beside the forest sprite, who gave the equivalent of a bow as she floated over the Eeveelution's head. Feeling a little embarrassed for missing a bit of the introduction, she leaned over and asked Mewtwo quietly, "Err, what was her name? I kinda spaced out a bit…."

"Mask," he answered shortly, and she smiled and told him 'thanks' before giving her full attention back to Arceus, eyes widening when she saw more Pokemon walking up to the front of the 'stage'. There's more? Wow, that's a lot of assistants.

"For the Regi trio and Regigigas, I have chosen these Pokemon to guide you four." A Froslass 'stepped' up to bow her head as Arceus said, "Honey will be assigned to Regice." The Snow Land Pokemon smiled as she floated over to the Regis and looked up at Regice with an 'eyebrow' raised. "Boy," she commented, "this is one hunk of ice."

DL could have sworn that Regice had darkened in his icy shade, but it could have just been the lighting as Arceus went on with the assigning.

"Zinc will be assigned to Registeel," he told them just as a Metagross floated over like a UFO, continuing his journey until he was beside the Steel-Type Regi and he lowered down as his four legs slowly moved from the grooves in his steel body to land on his feet. He gave a brief nod to his new 'boss' before turning to pay attention to Arceus once more, and DL couldn't help but find him like Entei as the God Pokemon went on with the Regis' remaining assistants.

"And Regirock's aide will be Bastared…." He frowned for a moment, hesitating as if just realizing something, but then he simply shook his head slightly and went on, "Yes, Bastared, come up, please." A Steelix crawled up to the front of the stage, not big enough to do anything like crowding the stage but still noticeable, and he looked a bit shy before he lumbered down the gigantic steps (haha, they were almost easy for him), and as he went to go to his new place beside his 'superior' DL quietly laughed at the name. Ha, he pronounced it wrong! It's not 'Bass-star-red'…. She covered her mouth with one hand while the other made sure that the Egg in her position was safe from falling, hoping that no one noticed her mirth. Thankfully, no one said anything to her about it, but she did see Mewtwo staring at her from the corner of his eyes.

"For Regigigas," Arceus nodded his head to the leader of the Regis who had his arms crossed, "I have a special guest here to be his subordinate. I know she has been confined for five-hundred years to a keystone, but now she is ready to be put through a trial to see if she is fit to repent. If not, we may always look for a replacement." He then motioned a golden hoof for the Pokemon to move up to the front, and whispers went throughout the crowd as a Spiritomb levitated forward barely above the ground to land with a dull thwump, her ghastly face (haha, ghastly) twisted into a grisly frown at the looks on everyone's faces. DL felt sad for her, although everything that she had heard about this Pokemon was terrible. They say that she was being punished those last five-hundred years, but…I can't help but feel sorry for her. After all, there must have been a moment in that sentence that it became a bit too much. She didn't know how time went by for a Legendary, but she did know that she would feel terrible for being locked up for so long and would want a way to get out of it. Suddenly feeling compassionate for the stranger, she lightly tapped Mewtwo on his shoulder and whispered, "Can I have a small favor?"

"Depends on what it is," he mumbled back, "and what I get back for it."

"I'll give you…pictures of Entei holding onto a stuffed Growlithe plushie while he was asleep."

"Eh, fine." After she whispered it in his ear, he gave a sigh before muttering about why he bothered doing things like this as he Teleported her up to the stage. As she made her sudden appearance, she realized how strange it must be for her to suddenly be there without announcement. Clutching the Egg tightly under her shirt, she gave a quick bow to Arceus in apology and gave him a look that said she had to do this. Giving a soft sigh, he let her do what she wanted to, and she smiled before turning to the rest of the confused Legendaries standing below her and clapped her hands together. "Well! I think that, since I'm going to spend some time with you guys – and gals – and everyone – that I should meet your assistants as well. I should have thought of this sooner," she scratched the back of her head with a nervous chuckle, "but I'll see the others later. I might as well start now, since I thought of it."

Then, she turned to the Ghost/Dark-Type and held out her hand before remembering that she wouldn't receive one back, and she smiled sheepishly and said, "Whoops, you kinda need arms or hands to 'shake hands' with…." She rubbed her arm nervously as if it was itching and chuckled uneasily, hoping she didn't give the wrong impression to Spiritomb, before clearing her throat and saying, "You can call me DL, Spiritomb. I'm here on Arceus' request to dispel any false rumors about the Legendaries and other Pokemon." In the back of her mind, she mused, perhaps I can do the same for you….

Spiritomb didn't say anything, but she gave a short nod to the human before rising just an inch above the floor and floating on quickly to get to Regigigas' side, lowering her glide as she went down the stairs until finally landing at the Normal-Type's side. Regigigas looked down at her with his arms crossed, but he didn't say anything either, so perhaps they were fit for each other as Entei and his aide was. DL smiled, happy that she got to meet Spiritomb and say 'hello' before the day with Regigigas, and then put her attention for the next assistant – which was a Togekiss, who rushed around her like a Whirlwind before giggling with joy and floated beside her. It seemed that Arceus would let them introduce themselves for he stepped back and bowed his head to them, and the other two at the front of the stage returned it (to the best of their ability, in Togekiss' case) before turning to each other and starting introductions.

DL, addicted to sticking out hands for handshakes, did so again and was relieved when the Normal/Flying-Type covered up her blunder for her by alighting on her hand like a Swablu and smiling handsomely. "My name is Star, and I believe that I have been assigned to Jirachi for his stay here." He gave her a small bow and flitted up to give her a kiss on the forehead before smiling and flying over to where Jirachi was waiting with a smile on his face as well. DL noticed how her Haunter in the audience seemed to get a little heated for some reason, and she covered her mouth as if she was coughing to hide her smile. Oh, Hunter, you're always so livid towards other people near me! She sent him a look that said, "Relax – it's alright." He gave a glare towards the Jubilee Pokemon but held his tongue and temper, and DL gave him an encouraging smile before turning to greet the Ninetales who stepped up to meet her gracefully.

"DL," she uttered the name awkwardly, not used to saying something as strange as a human's name, "my name is simply Fox. I prefer simple." She nodded her head to DL, and then, suddenly, she raised herself up to stand on her hind legs and held out one of her front paws in the offering of a handshake, and after quickly shaking off the astonishment DL responded in kind with holding out her hand as she looked up at the beautiful fox. Stunning she was, and talented, and the brunette felt like she had when Cresselia had spoken to her as the Fire-Type walked off of the stage towards Mew. Wow, these are really some of the best of the best. Arceus did good.

Next up were two more Fire-Types – an Arcanine and a Ponyta – and the dog nodded his head in part (Geez, so many Entei-act-alikes!) as the Fire Horse Pokemon trotted up to her and brushed her hand up with her snout. She sniffed it, snorted, and then rubbed up against it a little as she mumbled, "I've never seen a human before…you're so soft." She sounded much like just a young foal, and it was as if she felt the comforting presence of her mother as her eyes closed halfway in ease.

DL felt a little flattered by the compliment, wondering why someone so young was going to be an assistant, but then the Arcanine stepped forward and explained for her, "Her name is Special, and she won't go anywhere without me." He rolled his eyes at the statement as if annoyed by the fact, but then he was surprised into a gasp when the young Ponyta whinnied happily and nuzzled the giant Fire-Type while saying, "I love you, Daddy!"

"How many times do I have to tell you?" He sounded a bit frustrated as his face turned a deep shade of orange, and he pushed her a foot away with his paw as he huffed, "My name's Mason, not 'Daddy'."

"Wheeheeheehee!" She half-whinnied half-giggled as she galloped as fast as she could (which wasn't too fast, considering her young age) to the edge of the platform, and the Arcanine gasped in shock and ran after her just as she began to leap down the stairs one-by-one, shouting, "Hey, wait, Special, stop! You'll trip!"

"No, I won't!" She laughed much like a little child, and DL only wished she could be on the Ponyta's back as she looked like she was having fun going down the stairs, only being stopped after getting to the bottom and Mason had gotten in front of her to stare at her sternly. She lowered her head when she knew she was in trouble, looking rather ashamed that she had disobeyed him. She mumbled sadly, "Sorry, Mason…." She looked like she was going to cry, with her quivering lip and her drooping flames (if that was even possible), and a faint look of pity put a tremor on the strict look he tried to pull off until finally he sighed and shook his head, telling her, "Let's go, before you get into anymore trouble…."

"Okay…." Still looking a bit sad, she trotted beside him with his wide gaits until they got to stand beside Palkia and Dialga, looking like quite the most abnormal pair of father-daughter that DL had ever seen. She smiled, remembering how she had used to act as childish, but it slowly slipped away to a neutral expression when she remembered that those days were long gone. Well, I still act like a kid. Oh, well. She shrugged, feeling sort of indifferent at the moment as a Shuppet, a Dusknoir, and a Glameow walked up to greet her if not reluctantly. It seemed that she had finally met a handful of those Pokemon who don't like humans as much as the rest.

The Catty Pokemon raised her head snootily and looked down at the human as much as possible (even though she was shorter than DL), and she mewed, "Well, I don't know about you, but I am the elegant Charm, assigned to Azelf." She lifted a paw up gracefully and pointed at her fellow friends. "And these are my two cohorts – the generous Gist for Mesprit," the Shuppet nodded his head at DL, "and the reasonable Reprea for Uxie," the Dusknoir gave a short and stiff bow to her. Then, as if they couldn't stand her presence anymore, they quickly got off of the stage and to their respected Legendaries, and DL found that she didn't take it personal – it was just the way they grew up. 'After all, I've heard that some trainers have problems getting partners like a Pikachu or Charizard to listen to them, so it's only reasonable that some others have even bigger dislikes of us. I hope I can change their opinions on humans.'

"Well," Arceus stepped back up as it seemed that there were no more assistants, "we are at the very end of this meeting, but I have one more thing to note here. Mew, please come up." In the blink of an eye, the little pink feline was there floating upside-down with his hands holding onto his feet so he was curled up like a ball, and he blinked as he stared at the God Pokemon's reversed face curiously. He asked inquisitively, "Yes?"

"Float upright, you annoying little hairball," Mewtwo growled from the back, and his original giggled a little before turning right-side-up to stare (semi-)seriously at the golden hoofed Legendary before him as he blinked expectantly.

"You may already have Fox to help you, but I believe that you need a real sense of responsibility to develop your as of now almost nonexistent maturity level." The Pokemon in the crowd snickered and murmured in the crowd, and even Mew himself giggled again at the statement, but then it all became silent when Arceus beckoned forth a strange object that made everyone stare in amazement. DL smiled, however, and watched as the pink feline flew up to the hovering item that was now his and asked in astonishment, "You mean…I'm gonna…."

"Yes," Arceus answered his scattered question, taking a deep breath before continuing, "you shall be taking care of an Egg."

"…Sweet!" He hugged the Egg, with the thing being nearly as big as him, and DL heard one of the Legendaries 'mutter' loudly, "Five pokebucks says he breaks it in a week."

"Ten."

"Fifty."

"Legendaries," Kyogre scolded them all harshly, "don't you remember what we all agreed to?"

"No betting…." Groudon sighed heavily and pouted. "Man, you're no fun, Ky."

"It's Kyogre!"

(End Flashback)

Oh, yeah, almost forgot! He mentioned that the other assistants that had already been assigned before I came would meet me soon. So, I guess I'll have to wait a while! Oh, and a funny little thing happened, and let me tell you before I forget it….

Of course, it'd be like you to forget.

Oh, shut up, Proff.

('Tis Another Flashback)

(Legendaries' Palace, 6:00 p.m.)

"Hey, DL?"

"Yeah?" She looked as Heatran walked up to her, looking a bit nervous as if feeling like she shouldn't be doing this, and she waited patiently for her to gather her courage before finally she opened her big steely jaws to ask, "Umm, can I talk to you?"

"Hmm…."

"Hey, wait!"

DL blinked when a Magmortar ran up to them, huffing and puffing as if he had been running for a while, and he leaned on Heatran's side to regain his breath as they both looked at him expectantly. Finally, he stood up straight and told them, "There's something going on at the cave! Something collapsed while Mortar was digging."

"Mortar?" Looking as if she had seen Darkrai in her darkest dreams, the Fire/Steel-Type looked at the human apologetically and said, "Sorry, but I guess I'll have to talk to you later."

"That's alright!" The bright smile on DL's face must have been reassuring, because Heatran nodded with a smile on her face and went to walk off as she talked to the Magmortar.

"That's Pedal."

She jumped a bit in the air, but relaxed instantly when she saw that it was Darkrai instead of something dangerous that would kill her as soon as breathe (haha, he wouldn't be happy to hear that!). She smiled up at him and asked him, "Do you like to sneak up on people and scare their socks off?"

He shrugged, looking as if he wouldn't care either way, and then pointed out, "But your socks are still on your feet."

"Well, duh! I'm wearing shoes!"

He stood there looking a bit dumbfounded, but then DL asked him quietly, "Umm, Darkrai?" He slightly shook his head as if to dispel some thought before answering her exasperatedly, "Yes?"

"I really didn't want to do this in front of all of those Legendaries and only a couple of seconds after we officially met, but…."

Darkrai didn't see where this was going until he noticed her twiddling her thumbs and her other fingers twitching, and he was about to open his mouth to protest to the entire idea –

But he was too late.

It was very quick, but DL gave him a nearly crushing hug (that is, if he wasn't a ghostly-thingie) that made him wish he had turned intangible beforehand, and then she had let go just as quickly and apologized, "I'm sorry, I had to do it, otherwise I would have exploded, please forgive me!" She put her hands together and did a short bow, not knowing how exactly you were supposed to do it since she was technically American, and then scrunched her eyes tight waiting for an explosion. Before either of them could do anything, though, someone interrupted their little 'talk' with their harsh voice.

"Don't get near my boss."

DL opened one eye to gaze at the fierce looking Absol that was glaring at her, and she gulped a little at how much anger was being funneled towards her and bowed her head in apology once more. "I'm sorry, it won't happen again –"

"It better not," Arc spat at her, and the human looked back up as the Dark-Type scowled at her and stomped off, looking extremely peeved. In a flash, Hunter was there, but it was too late to tell her off because she was already gone, disappearing in the darkness of the night sky that swallowed everything above the horizon. The Haunter looked really angry, his Glare activating to search through the dark until he found her, but DL raised her hand and went to pat him (being intangible when he's mad, her hand just passed through him) as she told him, "It's alright, she's got a point, you know."

"Haunter?" (She does?) The Ghost/Poison-Type grumbled crossly, 'crossing' his hands and giving a scoff before giving up the hunt and looking at his Trainer curiously, as did Darkrai. What point did the human see in the temperamental assistant's logic?

DL nodded her head at Hunter and told him, "She's here to help, and – believe it or not – protect, her boss, and it's only right to be suspicious of someone she's just met." Then, she bowed her head slightly so that her hair was over her eyes as she muttered, "Besides, why should a Legendary let a mortal like me hug them?"

For some reason, that made Hunter – and Darkrai – frown, but immediately DL looked back up at them and smiled, saying, "Well, you guys probably have to get going! Hunter," she held out her hand with a sad smile, "I'm going to miss you. Take care!"

"Haunter…." (You, too….) Instead of taking her hand, he just went and 'hugged' her tightly before Licking her face affectionately. She laughed, joking 'another five years, gone!', and pushed him away so that he couldn't try again. Both of them with cheerful grins on their faces, it was only slightly dampened when Darkrai nodded to the Hunter and beckoned, "Let us go." Hunter sighed, saying to DL that he 'hoped to see her soon', and as they both turned and went to disappear behind Arc the human smiled widely and waved, shouting, "Send me a postcard or something!"

And then, they were gone. And she was alone.

Well, except for Butterscotch, but ah – details, details.

(End Flashback)

Er.

…See? What, you don't see the funny part? Oh, believe me, it's funny!

I don't know…it seems…so sad. Are you feeling alright?

What do you mean, it's sad? It's perfectly happy, dammit! See me smiling? See?!

I can't see you, we're writing to each other over a wireless internet connection.

Just shut up, Proff, and send me a steak. I'm hungry.

Lol. (laughs)

(sticks tongue out) You're not cool enough to lol! And lol means 'laugh out loud', you dork!

Lol.

You know what? I'm going to bed; the Legendaries dropped me off at my old 'hiding place' (not so hidden now, huh?). G'night, Proff.

Good night, Megan.

DL.

Sweet dreams, Megan.

DL!

Well, with Darkrai around, that may be a problem….

Oh, shut up. Night.
