Wowie. The first time I write Royai it's when the manga ends? *sob* Well this was meant for Royai day but due to tasks and obligations this is one late upload. Still I hope you enjoy (as I will always enjoy FMA. Thanks Arakawa sensei).

I do not own Full Metal Alchemist.

The shock hit her like a flying brick, her body went rigid, and her heart refused to steady, beating madly as if she had just run a marathon. But then again they had just come out of something far greater than a race. If one lost a marathon they could just make improvements to win the next one. But if one lost a battle deciding the fate of a country's life, there would be no second chances to redeem that lost.

Fortunately, they had won. The over powering homunculi named Father was defeated, young Alphonse got his body back, and most importantly, the citizens of Amestris had survived with little to no damages.

But despite the magnificent victories, she had thought he lost. Lost his sight, lost his rank, his dreams…

"Hawkeye." She could barely keep her wrist from trembling.

"Your sight…"

"Thanks to Dr. Marcoh." A weary smile drew itself on his face. "I can't leave the military just yet and abandon my goals. Besides," he slowly took a step towards her. "As much as I appreciated you being my eyes I think their color suits you much more than they ever could on me."

She remained silent, her mouth turning downward into an almost pout at his lame joke. But for once the truth sounded glorious and with a joy that few experienced, she burst out laughing, its ringing bouncing off the hospital walls. He grinned.

"I like that rare laugh of yours, always have. Good thing I didn't turn deaf too."

"You think this is funny?" She frowned again, trying to get at least a bit annoyed with at his light hearted attitude.

"You tell me lieutenant. You were the one laughing." His smile did not disappear and deciding that formality could slide just this once she casually leaned on his shoulder.

The two remained quiet for a good, comfortable, and somewhat familiar moment until she muttered something under her breath.

"What was that?" he asked peering down at her exhausted face slightly covered with golden strands of hair. To him, she looked captivating.

"Sorry sir." she apologized quickly then lowered her gaze. "I just thought…you had lost everything back there. I was beside myself trying to figure out what would happen next."

"But whatever it was you'd still follow me." He answered back knowingly. She nodded her head against the fabric of his shirt. "Yes, on that I was positive."

"Then whether or not I got my sight back I would have been fine."

"Sir?"

Boldly taking hold of her upper arms, he turned and looked down at his personal guardian, protector, beloved, goddess, his everything.

"How could I have lost everything when I still had you?"

Why did Arakawa leave this pair hanging I will never know. Luckily there's fanfintion.
