Crash. That's all he remembers. Metal crashing against metal. It seemed like he was missing something. He was probably in surgery or the morge right now, but he was in a white room. There was Amber, just like last time, in all white. She was frowning at him. "Amber. Am I dead?"478
"Almost. You've been in surgery a few hours, now you're in recovery. I've been waiting for you for a few hours. You're late."
"Cuddy's going to kill me." It dawned on him. Amber smiled, House felt a small hand slip into his. "No." He looked to his left. "Cuddy."
She smiled at him, "Hi."
"No. No. No. You can't." She was in the car with him, the car hit the passenger side door, he was driving. He put his free hand under her ear, cupping her jaw, "You have to go back. You can't stay here."
"I'm not leaving you." Her voice was starting to shake, tears coming to her eyes.
"You have to. You can't stay here. You ca-You can't."
"Why? I just got you." Her vision was being blurred. "I can't let go that easy."
"Lisa please." He was trying not very succesfully not to cry, Greg House doesn't cry, he told himself. "Go."
"Why? Why can you stay but I can't? Why am I better than you?"
"You have a baby, an-and people care. What's this going to do to Wilson?" He tried to joke, but it just made it harder to hold back tears. She squeazed the hand on her face, "You can't do this."
She tried to smile, "I am woman, I can do anything...I need you you miserable son of a bitch." She heard the beeping of a heart monitor, "That's me. Looks like you're stuck with me." She bit her lip to stop it from trembling. "Do you like my dress?" Her voice cracked and Cuddy couldn't hold back the tears. He brushed one away with his thumb. "It's rude not to answer people's questions."
"You look beautiful."
"You're such liar," she laughed. "You didn't even look at it."
"It's white." He smiled, "It's that dress you liked, the loose one with quater sleeves. The one you knew I was going to get you for Christmas."
"I did really like it." House heard his heart monitor beep, then flat line. "I'm scared."
"I'm with you, I'm not going anywhere."
Cuddy took deep breath, then released it shakily. "I think I'm ready. Are you?"
He nodded, put his right hand to his side, and squeazed her right hand tighter. "Where do we go?" He asked Amber.
"Through that door." House and Cuddy looked at the lone white door.
"Where does it go?" He asked.
"I don't know." She answered. "You'll have to see."
They stood at the door, clasping hands, terrified. House opened the door, there was nothing but darkness. "I'm scared too." He looked at Cuddy, "I love you."52 53 54
"Always and forever?"
"Always and forever. Ready?"
"...I'll follow you into the dark." With that, they stepped into the dark, with nothing sure but their love.
