Sorryyy, I know it's been a while… and to be honest I wrote this next chapter kind of fast… so I'm really sorry about mistakes and errors… and sorry for spelling mistakes!

Ok so now just go ahead and read… please review… so I know if I should continue or not :D

"The hardest decision ever"

That same afternoon while the girls made all the wedding arrangements and stuff… the guys, Nathan, Lucas, Jake and of course Dave accorded to play some ball at the river court.

"Man, it's so great you are getting married" Nathan said "now I don't have to hear Haley say that we don't have married friends…" he chuckled.

"Oh, come on… Peyton and Jake have been married for so long now…. Since high-school…" Lucas said "they are making it more official now" he continued shooting the ball, and naturally scoring.

"That was a hell of a shot Lucas" David said

Lucas and David were actually getting along, no matter how hard Lucas tried to hate him, because he was in a seriously relationship with Brooke, he was a really nice guy and liked almost the same things Lucas did…

Lucas smiled, he loved when people told him how good he played, how smart he was for the moves and strategies he made during games, any player loved that, so did Nathan, for that matter.

"It's not that hard… I just stand over the line and throw the ball, and it goes in" Lucas said "the trick is bending your knees a little bit more" he said shooting again and showing him… Then Dave tried to do it and he was close to score…

"Well… that's why I'm a business man and don't play sports" David joked.

"Yeah, right… so you said you work for an Internet company?" Jake asked.

"Yes, well… I don't want to bore you guys so let's just said that… it's a well paid job, and I love it, as long as I have Brooke and that job, I don't need anything more" He said

"Wow, so you work a lot, huh?" Nathan said…

Lucas was quiet now, thinking; how the hell could Brooke end up with a guy like this? Like her father… I mean he said he needed Brooke, but also his job was a very big part of his life… he remembered when he and Brooke used to talk about the future and how she always said she was going to marry someone who could stay at home during weekends, doing absolutely nothing but spend time with her. And then they would talk about having babies and pets, a big house in a small town like Tree Hill, so their kids could have a nice childhood just like they had, without the drama and stuff…

"Yeah, well it demands a lot of time, so I have to spend some of my free time working, but it's cool" he answered. "Hey, uhm.. listen I really have to thank you guys, for welcoming me this good" he said "I was a little bit worried on meeting you all, because Brooke always talks so good about you… She was worried, too… I guess that was what got me all preoccupied… but you are all really nice, she had nothing to be worried about"

"yeah we are not that bad" Jake joked.

They talked for a little bit longer and then Nathan realized it was kind of late.

"Oh, Guys… I'm sorry I'm going to have to take of… I promised Haley I'd take her out tonight" he smiled.

"Yeah, I'm going to go home, too…. Set free the nanny" Jake laughed "and cook dinner for my girls, you want a lift?" he offered and Nathan nodded.

"You guys?"

"Uhm, no thanks I'm going to stay a while longer…" Lucas said "I'll walk home, don't worry I need the exercise" he shoot again concentrating on the net---

"You mind?" David asked "i could keep you company for a while" he said

As much as Lucas wanted to be alone, or at least with anyone but not him… he was polite and shook his head.

"Sure" he mumbled.

"Alright" Jake said.

They all said their goodbyes and soon Jake and Nathan where gone… leaving just Lucas and David playing at the court… after a while they got a little tired, so they went to the bench, and drank some water…

"So…" David started "Lucas, Brooke said you had a mystery woman hidden somewhere in New York" he said trying to make conversation, after realizing Lucas was one broody and quiet man.

"She said that?" he asked.

"Yeah… well not quite her words but something like it"

"Lauren, just a girl I've been dating… nothing serious" he replied… "Not like Brooke and you, huh? You guys are really serious, right?" he asked.

"Yes" David smiled "there is something about that woman you know, she's… amazing I can't get enough of her, she's so bright and perfect"

And David was right; probably Lucas would have picked the same words to describe Brooke… She was really smart and sensible, had her own personality… she was every guy's dream… but he set her free long time ago…

"Yeah" Lucas nodded realizing he had to say something, his mind was starting to blow away.

"You know, you are a nice man Lucas… and I kind of… wanted to like you, because I know you are really important for Brooke… I mean she never told me about you, you know… she never told me much about none of you, but I could sense that by the way she looks at you, you two had a past" David said

Lucas grew a little bit nervous not really knowing what to say… not sure about what Brooke had told him.

"Yeah… you could say that we were pretty close…" he said

"I just… I just want you to know that I'm completely mad about her… and I'll treat her right and love her as long as life let me do it"

Lucas didn't know what to say… here he was, David, telling him how he felt about Brooke, how much he loved her… and Lucas was a couple of days ago thinking about her, non- stop… picturing their lives together, how happy they would be with David out of the picture… but the real thing was that Brooke was happy… or at least she seemed to be, and David was a good descent man… So maybe he should just let them be happy and do nothing about these feelings he has been feeling for the last 5 years since they took different paths.

Lucas smiled a little… faking obviously…

"I'm sure she feels the same" Lucas said, really not knowing what to tell him.

"Yeah, I think she does… listen, you are the first to know but I think I'm going to propose to her" he said whispering a little, just in case someone was around.

David wanted to marry Brooke… he had bought a ring for her a long time ago already, he was just waiting for the right time…

Brooke was aware of this, and she was happy, because she loved David very much. They always talked about marriage and stuff like their future together, but they never made it official, and David now wanted to.

Lucas' eyes were completely wide open, he almost choked with his water… he tried hard to hide it…

"Uhm… you are going to propose to her?" he repeated

"Yes, that's what I said" David smiled, he put his hand inside his jacket pocket and took out a blue tiny box "what do you think?" he said opening it and showing him the ring.

The ring was beautiful.

"I think you really know her taste in jewelry" Lucas said…

Wow, so this was actually happening… Lucas could feel how his heart started to break, very slowly causing more and more pain, I looked like God or someone up there was making this on purpose… Like some sort of punishment for loving Brooke all these years, while she was taken for somebody else, someone good… for him being so selfish.

"So… you think she's going to say yes?"

"I… I don't know… I mean, uhm" he wasn't able to form quite a sentence… he needed some air… even though they were outside, he felt like he couldn't breathe… "uhm… I think I'm going to take off, alright… I'll see you later man" Lucas said not really caring that he hadn't answered what he thought… would Brooke say yes or not.

David was really confident, he knew Brooke a lot and was really sure she would say yes, after everything they talked and planned.

Lucas left a very confused David on the court… he put away the ring and went home.

Lucas on the other hand took a long walk along the pier… tracing every single step he and Brooke made years ago, when they spent their last night together, and remembering everything they said… regretting every word…

He was sure now; he had lost her for ever…

He kept walking a few more steps in the pier just to find the same bench the sat years ago, when everything changed… he lifted up his eyes, there was someone sitting there already, he looked a little bit confused, what was she doing here? He thought…

"Brooke?" he said...

"Oh... hey" she said lifting her head up to see him, too.

She was red from crying, he could notice
