Chapter 3

Lunch time was crowded, more than usual everyone was in the cafeteria today. I sat at the end of a full table but everyone could tell I was in a foul mood so they ignored me. I tried using headphones to drown out all the noise my sensitive ears were picking up but it wasn't working. To top things off Kent comes to sit in front of me.

"Hey I'm sorry for being so pushy, I didn't mean to offend you" he tried going for my hand on the table but I pulled away. "Its fine, look I'm not interested so just go away alright" Kent had a face of fury. "Look you little..."

I didn't hear the rest of it cause a sudden breath taking pain shot through my whole body as if my organs were collapsing in on themselves and I couldn't breathe. I was hyper aware of my thirst and there was blood everywhere all I saw was red. I looked up in a panic searching for someone anyone and the first person I saw who was looking at me was Jace and he was instantly on the move.

He shoved Kent away who I didn't notice was trying to help me up "Move idiot" Jace grabbed my arm and started guiding me outside. I vaguely remember being swept off my feet and I no longer had sense of where I was I know the noise stopped and it was dead silence but the pain in my stomach was excruciating and my jaw felt like it was being unhinged.

"Rose what's wrong, what's going on you look like a ghost and your teeth retract them before someone sees!" Alyssa pleaded, my parabatai I know my change affected her more than anyone she's been my rock and has been planning and running my food schedule for the past year. I Leaned into the nearest trash and puked what felt like a liter of blood and crumpled onto the cold tile.

"Dammit Rose not again, you skipped your feeding didn't you" Chris yelled exasperated.

The light shining from the windows kept me from opening my eyes, "Please, so thirsty."

I smelled it before I saw it or felt it but without a second thought I grabbed on to the wrist in front of me, my mouth salivating and sunk my teeth in. Fresh, refreshing life seeped into my mouth and the pain dulled and disappeared. I felt like I could lift a car and it was so good.

"Okay Rose please stop I'm getting dizzy" Jace whispered feebly. I let go without a second thought and backed away only immediately returning when I saw he was stumbling, I helped him into a sitting position against the wall. "Alyssa give him a blood replenishing rune, hurry." She skillfully applied it and in a few minutes his color returned.

I punched him in the shoulder "Why would you do that I could've killed you, you idiot." He held the hand that was on his arm "You wouldn't have, God you looked so sick, you were deathly pale" he said with a look of absolute desperation.

Chris grabbed me by the arms and slammed me on the wall "Are you insane, were you trying to get yourself caught?" He was squeezing my arms tight and looking at me like if I'd lost my mind. Like I was a monster. "Do you think this is easy? I hate what it does to me, I hate walking to the fridge and instead of grabbing a mountain dew I have to grab a bottle of O positive, I hate that it tastes so damn good and I hate that I just want more". I pushed him off and stared in the face of my twin and he was scared. Scared of me. Tears pooled around my eyes but I fought them off and just left.
