Another letter!

Jasper is a friend of Emmett's, a Union soldier. He is writing to Emmett's wife, Rosalie McCarty.

September 22, 1862

Dear Mrs. McCarty,

I am at loathe to be the bearer of bad news, but your husband has fallen in Antietam. He was a gallant, brave soldier. The Union lost some 2,100 men and close to 10,000 injured. I am among the wounded. My left arm shattered on impact and had to be amputated. If it were not for your husband, my injuries would have been much worse...

We marched upon Lee's troop, who fought a bloody battle . A Confederate fired toward us. Your Emmett saw it coming at my turned back. He tried to push my from its path of destruction, but it drilled itself just under his caring heart, out, and into my forearm. I bit my lip in agony, so not to bring attention to us as I crouched near him. His uniform transformed into a royal purple as blood gushed out. He turned to me with a feverish glare in his eye and begged me to give you a small package he'd assembled in contingency of this. I have attached it to this letter. Please, Ms. Rosalie, do not fret. He's safe in the Kingdom of God.

Grieving for your loss and mine,

Jasper Hale
